    Hi i'm here to share something...i had succesfully upgraded the made of plastic worm gear to stainless steel..parts are literally taken out from chronarch 51E and perfectly fit if anyone want to give a shot..i could feel the increased cranking power of my reel after the upgrade and i was so pumped up!!tight lines

      Interesting. You put it in a Curdao 70/71 or a 200/201K?

      Drundel i actually made the upgrade on the curado 71..any parts from other shimano reels that are similar to that chronarch 51E would fit..thanks

      Was it a just the worm gear? Did you need any additional parts?

    • @laserfinn
      @laserfinn 4 года назад

      @@hectorr.7483 we only need the worm gear itself with the idle gear that is attached to it

    Great video, very interesting to see the disassembly but I'm wondering what the benefit is to the bearing over the bushing in that location?

    • @Drundel
      @Drundel  7 лет назад +2

      It just makes it smoother. If you look at all the higher end reels, they all have a bearing there.

      Plastic will deform over the years

    Is It the worm "plastic" ? I thougth It was a better material than that. How long would It last? It is any way yo upgrade the worm?

      Might not be plastic, but it is a polymer. 100% not metal. I have never seen a metal upgrade for them but they are cheap so if they wear out, just buy a new one.

    Hi, my friend, I'm from Brazil, how can I put 2 bearings on the endless shaft?

      I don't understand what you are asking, can you try to explain more?

    What kind of bearing (model) you placed over the bushing?

    Why ad another bearing to go bad?
    Why put grease in the bearing if the object is to “speed” up the worm gear? That penn grease is thick and will facilitate in bearing speed.

      In general, the bearings reduce friction, therefore result in a smoother reeling motion. And it won't speed up the worm gear, just make it smoother. Yes its thick to keep out salt and less chances of rusting, but it really doesn't increase the force needed to turn the reel. I've cleaned countless reels where people had a bearing (usually main or worm gear) that was seized and they never knew it. Lastly, shimano used to ship their reels with red grease in the spool bearings (they still might, I haven't opened a stock spool bearing in a while).

    Appreciate your videos on the upgrade, helps me a lot with my upgrades. If may ask a question, apart from the spool bearings on both the sides, there seems to be a bearing inside the spool on the shaft. Is it worth upgrading too, if so, what is it's dimension on the curado? It's totally missing on the schematic. Hope you will help answer. Thanks.

      There's no spool bearing on the Cu70/71. Some other model of reels do have them and then yes, they can be worth upgrading.

    Hello..could u tell or confirm to me what is the material used to make that worm gear is it plastic or metal?coz the new curado k's worm gear is also black in color and it is confirmed to be made out of plastic..i own the curado i series and about to purchase a smaller size this reel seems to be the right one..thing is i just want to avoid plastic worm gear..hope to hear from u soon,tq

      The worm gear on the 70/71 is 100% some sort of plastic. I haven't seen a K in person yet, but based on the videos I've seen, it looks to be the same part. I think all the newer ones are plastic.

    penn grease is really not recommended for plastics/nylon , it's petroleum based.

      I've read that before about Penn. A lot of that comes down to personal preference and experience, ie a lot of people disagree with him on the hot sauce grease/oil. A lot of people in the US working on salt water reels hate that stuff. I never had issues with it, but I quit using it after reading countless posts. Hawk also makes no mention of Corrosion-X, that's pretty much a staple of everyone in the US working on reels. Read some of Alan Tani about grease/oil.
      I'm waiting to get some Corrosion-X grease to try.

      I've read everything Alan Tani and Alan Hawk have written about grease and oil. I use zpi medium on gears and friction points , daiwa ultimate on drags.

      there's only 1 bushing on the curado worm gears...2 bushings on daiwas.
