It isn't easy dealing with such nonsense in a second language, and also with such a combative person (Devon) who is meant to be a friend, meant to be reasonable, and meant to be aware of his significant global influence. • @limjamir
    @limjamir 9 дней назад +83

    Ermes was unable to express it in a proper way. But here is what he meant. Everyone makes fouls. Be it foul starts, moving shoulder, rising, etc. Referees are professionals and they make sure that the rules are adhered to. When they point out the fouls, athletes should respect the referees' calls, follow the rules and play. However, when referees point out fouls on Devon, he starts to complain a lot and screams with too much of entitlement. Even other athletes do complain sometimes, but they do not cross the line. They are respectful of the professional referees. When it comes to Devon, he tends to cross the line every single time. His body language becomes intimidating as well. In the process, his loud speaker wife would join him as well and starts screaming at the referees. It frustrates the referees and opponents a lot and some referees allegedly get intimidated. That's how the match goes on for a longer span. If you look at Devon's supermatches, more than half of the span is wasted on unnecessary tantrums, complaints, dramas, which affects the very decorum and ethics of the sport. Even Engin agrees with it. It drains the physical and mental energy of the opponents and referees. Eventually, they get frustrated and lose focus. That's the dirty tactics Devon plays.
    I think as an organiser, Engin needs to give full power and authority to the referees to handle any misconduct, disrespect and undoings by the athletes. Because nobody is bigger than the rules and sport.

      Your last paragraph is the most important. And I would add that Engin has handled this issue very unprofessionally & unfairly. Bringing all this up and targeting Devon just 2 weeks before a title match is ridiculous... These discussions with athletes should have been done, in the presence of referees, at the end of one of the previous EvW events so that Devon & all the other athletes could make the necessary adjustments & practise under those conditions properly in their prep for the next event. The timing of all this shows Engin in a very poor light.

      @@H____R Personally I'm a hard believer in rules and conditions that provide a lot of freedom but after that the floor is lava. For example make pads big and squishy so athletes actually have space to arm wrestle (squishy pads allow even some limited vertical movement). But after that you can go all out in strictness all the way through to PAL levels. Slight bumps on those pads now can be called out without hesitation cause we know that a small bump on a squishy pad is actually not so small. Same goes with fouls. Introduce 3-foul system (instead of 2) and running fouls but then abolish warnings and don't hesitate to foul people. Et cetera. The weird and beautiful amalgamation of strictness and lenience in a single package. People can actually arm wrestle but it's also fair.

    It took like 2 years to finally start calling him on his cheating. The sad thing is he probably doesnt even need to do that to win

    Devon's childish relationship with referees is the only example I can think of in professional sport where a competitor can curse at and abuse a referee/umpire without any repercussions. Such behaviour in football, American football, basketball, ice hockey, tennis, cricket, baseball etc... immediately results in warnings, followed by being sent off/disqualified. (Not to mention the utter rubbish he spouts towards the arm wrestling opponent, constantly trying to distract them mentally from an objective measurement of skill. This does not happen in professional sport without punishment. The refs should punish this too, but are too afraid.) Armwrestling must catch up. If Devon wants armwrestling to be a big, international, professional sport, welcome--this is what it looks like.

    The solution is someone needs to convince Devon that he is making an ass of himself and displaying poor sportsmanship which can ultimately be damaging to the sport by scaring new viewers away. I used to love Devon, but he changed over the last 5 years. Or at least his persona in matches has changed. There is a difference between being aggressive and confrontational, which is good match hype, and being outright disrespectful by demeaning and insulting your opponent. Engin needs to have a sit down with Devon and lay down the law. No more degrading opponents. These europeans simply won't put up with it either. You saw how Levan and Denis reacted to Devons crap talking. They were legit pissed. Foul him out of the match if he is going to act like that, but better not put it on TV because he will throw a tantrum like you have never seen. Good topic, highlights the need to flush out these rules. Devon hasn't done anything wrong regards to cheating, but regarding the starts, if viewed as unfair in that he (and others!) start early, the rules should be looked at and like you said, maybe fouls instead of warnings for false starts

    Anytime I see Devon loading and moving backwards he wins (relatively) easily, anytime he is forced to not move a muscle except for bracing and loading and he has to stay as still as possible he has a harder time. For example look at all the times in matches when a ref is saying “ready” and look at Devon’s movement backwards and watch the result as opposed to when Devon has 1 or two fouls and he’s standing straight up and he doesn’t move backwards when they are saying “ready”.
    It’s just a pattern I’ve seen. It’s probably technically not cheating as per rules as how they are specified. However, I think if all the pullers knew they could load and remain squared and hands in the center but slight positioning of their bodies during the “ready” phase is acceptable and might negate some of Devon’s advantages he takes. When Devon’s small movement of his upper torso goes away from the table it creates a leverage that accentuates his rise in the palms capacity to negate hand power of his opponents before the word “go” is even said.

    Where will you draw a line for an acceptable preload? so you shouldn't.
    Brace yourself as hard as you can but do not make any physical movement.
    AND he also mentioned that he is right because refrees don't foul him out. Refrees (especially hristo) play very professional. They know how much to stretch. And if you are involved in an argument with them, that means you are already pushing the boundaries. That is why his matches are almost hour long and still no fouls.

    Arm Wrestling cannot probably become a (financially) successful mainstream sport as it is now. The most important rules in armwrestling should be: (1) testing in conjunction with (2) weight caps.
    1. Testing: all athletes should be tested against juices etc. Rino said that Levan is juiced in an amount "that could kill an elephant". Most (if not all) super heavy weights, and a lot others are probably in a similar situation. This is not good for them and not appealing for people like myself, who are 100% natural and want to stay like that. Perhaps a lot of potential viewers cannot empathize with juiced people.
    2. Weight caps considering natural biological limitations of the human body (without juices), taking into account (i) height and (ii) body constitution (athletic, robust etc). The kidneys and livers of the athletes will say a big thank you to such rules. For instance, perhaps a robust Levan should be capped at 130kg at most, while a tall Devon at 110kg and a taller Vitaly at 115kg. MMT and Dave should be around 105kg and a robust but not so tall Denis should be at some 110kg.
    Let me know your thoughts.

    Engin has handled this issue very unprofessionally & unfairly. The arm wrestling it's one of the ugliest and borning sports on earth to watch. Devon understood that without entertainment, the arm wrestling is of no interest to anyone. 99% of people want to assist the Devon's enterrtainment show and consequently the arm wrestling match.

      What the hell do you expect? Devon was raping his hand in the setup. The least he could do was regripping but even the referee was giving him fouls. He couldn't do anything to prevent devon from getting advantages

    I think armwrestling table pads should have inbuilt scales, and if those scales show zero - meaning the athlete gets his elbow up the pad (usually to readjust to a more convenient position) - sometimes not noticed by a referee - that’s should definitely be a foul.
    Scales in pads would also help against kingsmovers, who are having those pads touched by their elbows only from side and not from the top.
    @Pradeep, your thoughts on that?
