Who else also noticed that when India said her father hunted not because he liked it but he did it for her means that the dad noticed India's signs of psychopathy and feared that she would end up like her uncle so he tried to help her release the urge to kill. Sometimes you need to do something bad to stop you from doing something worse.

South Korean directors are so good in making crime/murder/mystery thrillers. Stoker gave me chills, (even with the shallow script but Park Chan-Wok, the actors and the rest of the production crew did an amazing job in elevating the film) the chills I got from watching a Hitchcock film (as it was a quasi-remake of a Hitch film) --- And that is a MASSIVE thing to say.

Usually in a movie people feel sympathy/empathy for the main character but this one in particular is an exception (for me at least), because this whole family is so messed up and the relationship dynamic between them can sometimes be confusing , that's why I ended up being disgusted by most of the protagonists except maybe for Richard who was dead from the beginning anyway. It's an interesting experience because it's something I haven't seen before, but I'm not a fan of it.

    Turns 10 today!
    I remember watching it once
it's unflinching and almost has a Freudian quality
This plays like a Hitchcock thriller
There's plenty of beautifully filmed portions involving transitions that are seamless, plenty of symbolism making it a cerebral experience
The craftsmanship alone is enough to give this a viewing
Some things are screwed up behind repair, we wipe the slate clean, others can succeed where we have failed, having children for some is to have carbon copies to get it right
Some shortcomings keep it from truly excelling like a few hints of backstory that aren't all that explored and the script could use more depth with better pacing
But the director explores many of these peoples dark perversions woven into a psychological drama that's subtle

I love this movie so much. Just rewatched it last night. I realised something this time though. Not sure if it can be classed as 'canon' though.
SPOILER ALERT if you haven't watched it yet:
    -
    -
    -
So, in the end when India shoots Uncle Charlie, at first I thought it was because he killed her father, which is still, I think the main reason. In no way do I think she did it for her mother. There didn't seem to be any real affection between them. But I realised that maybe she did it BECAUSE she was so drawn to her uncle. It made me think of the line "Sometimes you have to do something bad to avoid doing something worse" (may have paraphrased that a bit). She killed him so she wouldn't give in to the temptation he represented to her (along with her need to avenge her father).
I don't know. Maybe I'm the only one who saw it that way.

@@summerghost6551 Sorry to come across pedantic but it's psychopaths who can't feel love not sociopaths. It's a misperception the two words are interchangeable, they are similar though distinct personality disorders 😯

Charlie came back to claim his "bride" and find a partner who thinks and is like him, but she never forgave him the murder of her father. She might have been psychopath, but she was not like Charlie. She had not killed anyone before he appeared and he- he killed 3 people (4 if you count his baby brother) and would have killed fifth if she didn't put him down. I think she had realized, that his lust for killing is uncontrollable and that he is mentally unstable. He was a liability, a burdain on her path. He came, as he said, at the right time as a teacher and opened her mind to her true nature, showing her the way of the killer. She was so much smarter and more patient than him and absolutely not a partner-type. The staircase and heels scene both are symbolic of him lifting her up to his level- as equal, as same. It is saying: " here we are- 2 birds of a feather". She plays him, kills him and is free to fly on her own.
