After getting to hang out with Jujimufu and Tom, I decided to make a video on why Juji doesn't train the olympic lifts and why the general population might stay away from them as well.
miss you bb, thanks for came -tom
your all so awesome guys more collaborations in juji and toms new gym please
Thamk*
I think you meant cumming*
Like, at least snatch a flamingo, Juji.
I did write a hate comment on one of your videos on the topic, you guys uploaded a few days ago for showing "tutorials" on Olympic weightlifting, because the exercises are soo dangerous for beginners, but now i see you actually had nothing to do with this, and i am kinda sad if you saw it
The analogy with the shot put and javelin throw is dead on. Olympic weightlifting is a specialized skill that takes years to develop in order to be really good at.
@Inebriatd well olympic weightlifting is one of the best sports for overall fitness. The mobility, flexibility, explosive strength and stability it makes you develop its pretty insane.
@Inebriatd It does take years of efforts, but the fact stands that Olympic Weightlifting gives you insane overall fitness.
Of course it's "specific". You could say that for literally anything. Does a strongman fare well in MMA? No. Does a pure MMA fighter fare well in Powerlifting? No ( although every MMA fighter probably does some sort of lifting. I'm talking theoretically ).
And in any case, Snatch and C&J are specific movements but you can't perform them without Deadlifting, Squatting and Pressing, which are movements you called "non-specific".
And the strength can translate well to daily life, for example olympic weightlifters are very high jumpers. Not sure how they'd fare against NFL or NBA players, but still.
@Inebriatd Why if Oly-Lifting has no "carry-overs" you see NFL and NBA players doing power cleans bro ? huh ?
@Inebriatd How about overhead presses then?
@@nathanlessard5603 There are 2 lifts in O-Lifting. The power clean is not one of them.
1sr week in gym:
I know how to bench, deadlift, squat.
1 year Olympic lifting:
Still working on mobility to snatch the empty barbell.
Agree and disagree. You know how a squat or deadlift works, but after years of practice there are still MANY things to improve on!
@@dajax1996 What are you actually disagreeing with? Nothing in your comment expresses disagreement.
@@dustinirwin1 he implies that you can do the big lifts in a week, which i dont believe to be true
@@dajax1996 he's just saying that anyone can lay on a bench and press the bar, or pick it up, or squat it. of course not perfectly. but most people simply cannot even perform the snatch movement without extensive training and coaching. you're taking the comment too literally.
@@dustinirwin1 isnt it all the same? One can always attempt a snatch with the same barbell. Maybe i am taking it too literal, idk
This is my experience as well. You can only watch so many Catalyst athletics videos before you realize you need a coach. Me being in my 40s I don’t have competitive aspirations, but enjoy the complexity and continuing challenge of the Olympic lifts.
Same here. Not quite 40 but getting there. I just came into it from doing some Crossfit style workouts with a buddy at my gym and really enjoyed learning the new lifts.
am i the only oneto find the speed at which Clarence Kennedy gets under the bar at 5:09 absolutely superhuman ?
Guy looked like he glitched under the bar
A lot about him is superhuman, really.
Watch it in 0.5x speed. It's actually pretty creepy.
I just rewatched it like 100 times in 0.5x and 0.25x speed, and 3 or 4 frames of the the video are edited. You can see the guy walking in the background with the grey shirt and actually skip forward several pixels faster as Clarence seems to teleport under the bar.
I'm going to find the original video to see if the edit is there too, but I'm assuming Zack did this himself as a hidden joke about how insanely fast Clarence is.
@@Robo0595 Yeah, the part when he gets under the bar is edited, so sad...
That earfquake instrumental caught me offguard

so true about the barrier to entry aspect of weightlifting. even after watching all of Zack's and Oleksiy's videos (the BEST owl content creators imo) and constantly recording my lifts, I'm still not able to master the technique and have decided to get face-to-face coaching.
compared this to bodybuilding where all I needed was watching Mr. Jeff Cavalier externally rotate :)
What was missed here is that Olympic weightlifting has a huge niche for athletes, not just competitive lifters. Any thrower, sprinter, jumper, basketball player, and many other athletes will greatly enhance their abilities by doing the clean&jerk and snatch. One doesn't have to become a great weightlifter to benefit from the quickness and power developed from the Olympic lifts. These lifts are extremely FAST movements, unlike the powerlifts, and they develop athletic qualities that bodybuilding movements do not. I suppose the snatch can be omitted because of the flexibility required, but the clean&jerk doesn't have that problem and is a MUST for most track&field events. And FYI, Al Feuerbach, the great shot-putter from the 1970s, didn't have a coach but taught himself Olympic weightlifting from just looking at pictures in books (no internet back then). In fact Al became so proficient in Olympic style lifting that he won the U.S. national weightlifting championships in 1973, the same year he set the world record in the shot-put.
I like Oly lifting because its very specific. The skill aspect of it has me wanting more and more all the time. The fact that you can have immense strength but not be able to pull off a snatch because you don't have the skill is something I find very interesting.
This is why I have had a hard time getting into it. Hard to find a coach, would love to try though.
I'm m ore of a powerlifting guy and I've tried to get intoweightlifting but the technique is so f ucking hard.
Try anyway just keep the weights low and film yourself.
Just try it. Really.
There's just so much information on the internet nowadays, so many message boards where you can keep on getting feedback from more experienced lifters...there's no reason not to try. Just learn how to enjoy the small victories and don't expect quick results.
I sincerely love the technical difficulty of teaching myself the lifts, it's more wild wild west-y that way. It's not like you'll make NO gains, but it'll take a lot of patience, is all.
@@trevorsharp460 I thought I was crazy for thinking this.
So true about expecting results, I’ve been doing a respectable clean for about 8 years now, but the jerk and the snatch require so much more time and technical work that I’m still in the beginning phases for both.
ok this is one of zack's best videos
Well out of all disciplines(bodybuilding, powerlifting, strongam...), weightlifting has the highest work to reward ratio, you need to work a lot with specialised people doing almost the same things over and over to achive a small goal after goal. Other disciplines require less work, can be individually done and are more rewarding cous of the monthly progression and PR achieving wich gives a much higher satisfaction level
Juji is entertaining and fun to watch especially he can move in ways for someone his size. Great vid to see a different view on people who weightlifting doesn't appeal to.
I was wondering for a future vid since I train powerlifting and do WODs, any thoughts and training methods for supertotals.
Your videos always make me feel so inspired and positive about my rate of progress. I'm one of those people trying to teach themselves weightlifting off RUclips and at a commercial gym. It is slooooow going. First I needed to learn to ATG squat and work on my front rack, then learn to over-head squat, then get comfortable holding the bar with a hook-grip and snatch-width, now I'm working on my snatch-balance, trying to get comfortable getting under the bar and catching weight dynamically overhead and staying over the bar in a snatch-pull. All of these peices have taken me months to get comfortable with and I still cant do the full movement competently. Some tutorials make it look like you could learn the snatch in one afternoon but that has just not been my experience.
Great video Zack, refreshing to see a more “serious” take to Juji and crew
Appreciate the love thrown the throwers way. Very rarely do they get high lighted for the amount of work that they have to put in to be successful.
I noticed you put Faras in the jujitsu part, nice, i’ve always found your approach to sport and physical performance very similar. Great video btw
don't expect to enjoy it. well said. I have the deepest respect for oly lifters, it takes more than just strength and discipline and skill to get that stuff done.
I felt the need a coach thing. I've recently started to teach myself how to clean using your videos and a couple others. It hard, but I'm taking it slowly and hopefully I can continue to notice my mistakes and fix them. In the future if I get more serious a may commute more to train with a coach.
@@MithrandirRS get a camera? Even cheap phones have slow Mo these days
Your videos are how I first learned how to snatch- after watching, I went and did five days of snatching in a row to nail down the technique. I’m three weeks in, and I still have so much fun doing the movement. As someone who has lifted for 6 years, I thought I would just restrain myself to focus on powerlifting movements and the big five; however, I have fallen in love with the Olympic movements and that’s almost solely due to your channel. Thank you
I just started doing power cleans as my first sort of Olympic lift as prescribed by mark rippetoe in starting strength. I always avoided it because it didn’t feel right and I was sure I’d injure myself doing it. It may be less technical than the other lifts, but I’m really glad I stuck to it. It’s given me an appreciation for weightlifters and piqued my interest a bit in that direction. There’s something tremendously satisfying about doing something wrong 99 times and getting it right the 100th. I can totally see why this sport is growing so much.
MassageTeam haha yea I guess I did. Just exercising my God given right to spell correctly.
Right on. I have been trying to hit a 205 lb power clean for 4 weeks now but 200 lb still feels heavy as fuk. So jelly to see zack clean 300+ lbs
FoolishInTheEnd yea it’s crazy! That’s good man! I’m just about to hit a 135 lol
Proper technique (naturally), shoulder and hip mobility, range of motion, and flexibility are the biggest obstacles for a bodybuilder when trying to learn Olympic weightlifting.
Thanks for the video Zack. You are the first weightlifting centric channel that I have started to watch and you (along with Clarence) have inspired me to give weightlifting a try. I don’t know if it’s something I’m going to stick with but at least now I know I can clean 150lbs, which is 150lbs more than I could have done one week ago
@Zack Telander Bro you gotta make a Spotify playlist or something with all the music you use and like, I love every song you put in your videos dude
Only come across your channel recently and really enjoying all the content you've made over the years. Informative and entertaining, so thanks!
Very insightful. Heard from Juji himself and you gave your own excellent explanation. Thank you🙏
Great video. Lots of good information.
I started working out at age 45, so the rotators were already in rough shape.
Doing great, and always getting better, but it does keep me from any heavy lifts, and I have to keep it really light if I'm going over my head with anything. Really enjoying myself.
This video is exactly why Im so obsessed with learning the oly lifts.
Because you don't want to look aesthetic and you hate your shoulders?
This video is making me question my decision of taking a course on Olympic Weightlifting. I'm currently in college studying Physical Education and I wanted to learn the lifts to improve my physical abilities firstly in general and then for fighting/self-defense which is my main goal.
Great video, I subscribed.
When’s the next “your not x” coming out bc those are great and what lead me to ur channel
Maybe because they're a bit passive aggressive towards the fan bois who think they're good by being able to imitate an Olympic athletes movements.
Or because they're a dismal reminder that all of us who have resorted to watching these videos instead of being able to make them with decent views aren't talented at all, nor have the strength or dedication in achieving greatness in this sport.
your not xxxtentacion?
tbh its hard to say. I try not to force videos that don't stem from real opinions that I have.
Zack Telander fair enough and the content has been great lately so I can’t be too mad
How about “you are not Clarence Kennedy”? But, then it would be just 2 seconds video that says “yes, you aren’t” lol
Am I the only one singing the lyrics from “Earfquake” while it was in the background..
You're not alone that shit fire
i just noticed it and was looking for a comment
cool ✨💪🏽😎🤙🏽✨post brother... hooked on Strength and Olympic training... learning a lot from you channel✨👍🏽
I started out training like a bodybuilder and later switched to strength training. I've never included the Snatch or Clean & Jerk in my program, but I do include Overhead Squats and High Pulls. Likewise, I've done Front Squats, Push Presses and Dumbbell Snatches. I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me. They may not perform the full Olympic lifts, but they do perform some of the assistance exercises and/or the power versions.
That was such a gnarly deadlift Zach, nicely done
1:44 I love that guy, watching his bench vids is like watching circus acts
loooool love the earrquake feature at the end
As a masters lifter the lower national qualifying total looked inviting at first but I think it’s actually a warning.
Thumbs up for comparing it to throwing events, being a retired thrower myself, i think the same, weightlifting and throwing events are just as technical, and throwing benefits a lot from practicing powerful movements like the snatch and the clean.
I really enjoy weightlifting and want to learn and practice as much as I can, because of the skill required. Hitting a new snatch PR has given me so much fulfillment beyond what I ever got grinding out a big squat or deadlift.
Your video's always are spot on! And very entertaining thats why i followed you!
1:45 hey I’ve seen that guy his bench is crazy for his body weight he benched 405 at like 150 something pounds.
It's easier to have a high bench to body weight ratio if you have no legs though.
I enjoy it because clarence inspired me to do it and it seems fun and difficult. Did my first session of snatches with a coach and man does it work your shoulders.
Awesome video. It is very indeed a tough skill to break through any beginner level without coaching (for most) or without serious training and obsession.
I’ve weightlifted for 5 years. Never been coached. At the beginning found linear progression, but was haulted once strength was maxed and technique perfection became the limiting factor.
I will continue to weightlift and train the movements as I endeavour on this journey, for the sake that I love the movements and feel as though it keeps me honest with my speed, flexibility and technique.
The middle ground would be training parts of the Olympic Lifts in chunks, instead of trying to do the full C&J or Snatch. Until one gets access to a training facility with a qualified coach, it's simply too risky to perform them unsupervised. High pulls, hang clean & snatch, push jerks come to mind. IMO, even the power clean might be too complex for some people to perform safely. As Zack mentioned in some of his tutorial videos. it's at the bottom of the pull where people encounter a lot of technique issues. Just because most people can't do high level gymnastic skills (ex. iron cross), it doesn't mean we can't use simpler movements like l-sits, dips or muscle-ups.
Interesting you mention that because from my point of view, weighlifting looks a lot like inverted gymnastics. Only you're throwing the weight while your body stays in place rather than moving your body around a fixed point. I look at a slow-mo of a snatch and it's almost like watching a muscle-up, the way that bar seems to just stop in mid-air while the lifter moves themselves underneath it. Incredible technique, much respect.
Exact story with me it seems really cool probably my favorite strength sport every thing considered but it's hard to get a good cheap coach money is tough right now so sticking to overhead squats front squats and push presses should be able to help me have positional strengths when I do one day get into it
Excellent video, man!
I for one, would really like to see a javelin field in a gym!
Thank uuu for putting respect on throwing🙏🏾. No one ever shows us throwers any love lmao
hi zack i sawyou on juji's channel i am a student from India, neither can i afford a weightlifting coach and nor a coach is available, that being said i want to learn weightlifting. will youtube videos be sufficient or should i wait till i can afford and find a good coach? Thanks for the amazing content :)
The sooner you start, better
I recommend you to read and watch about this beautiful sport
If you practice practice somewhere, don't rush. Be patience.
children begin to learn weightlifting start with a wooden stick (like a broom stick)
You can start doing that too haha
Elite Olympic lifters started like that (the first 1-3 years for sure)
It's not impossible, he does have content to start of with the technique, but don't rush it, in the start it's all about getting familiar with the movement and also work on mobility.
If you know Spanish you could check out SenBernabeu he just stated to upload weakly videos to start weightlifting from 0.
@@afb9176 I am 17 not that young -_-
I am probably an intermediate powerlifter will start with an empty barbell
"tom had a really good idea-" to nobody's surprise
Great video my dude!
Great video. Well done.
You touched on a really important if not the most important aspect of fitness that is often neglected by a lot of people - enjoyment.
Lots of people are focused on optimizing lifts and routines that will never bear fruit bc they have not the slightest interest in them.
I think a good analogy is like telling a career swimmer, who's been swimming in high school and maybe through college, to try water polo because they're both in the pool...
Just because someone likes moving a barbell for body or powerlifting doesnt mean they'll like weightlifting (or have the expertise to pick it up)
i disagree 100 percent with you that people won't get into olympic because they're not skilled enough.
this video came as pretentious as hell and very biased.
red flags for this video being propaganda for olympic weightlifting from somebody biased instead of an impartial analysis of the topic
1. he called the powerlifters appearing in the footage, juji and tom, and, megsquats ''gym bro'' and ''gym chick''', trying to dismerit powerlifters skill, as amateurish people who weren't skilled enough to do olympic. nonsense
2, he tried making it sound like people go into powerlifting instead of olympic weightlifting because they're not as skilled, and that olympic is somewhat a superior sport.
hell no. the reason people who lift weights avoid olympic weightlifting is because they love their shoulders, wrists and ligaments. unlike dumb ass crossfitters that get injuried every other day, that's why olympic weightlifting is now popular in crossfit, it's been brought back by crossfit.
powerlifting is a modern revised version of olympic weightlifting. that is what every person now that gets into lifting weights does, it makes sense. because powerlifting uses the safe and proven movements for strength building, squat, bench and deadlift
olympic weightlifing is an extremely unsafe and outdated sport, the reason it competes in the olympics is because it's old as heck. who tf is insane enough to lift a heavy barbell above their head in one go, and in the last second trying to balance that heavy weight with their elbows locked... that is asking to have an injury
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess and i disagree 100% with you, Zack made emphasis on personal preference per individual, and how easy is to transition from sport to sport between bodybuilding and powerlifting, but people don't get into Olympic lifting because it's a very technical sport that requires a lot of learning, and preparation of the body to be executed properly, only the ones who love it, deal with the technicality of it, and please don't say that people deserve to be injured because they wanna try oly lifting. It actually improves mobility and flexibility that can be carried to powerlifting and Athletics, since most profesional throwers do power lifts and Olympic lifts to gain both strength and power.
I believe you looked at this video with the most malicious perspective that could exist.
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess That was a pretentious rant. Powerlifting is as dangerous as Weightlifting, real dumb comment.
@@UkSapyy olympic weightlifting is much more dangerous than powerlifting, powerlifting is a modern and revised version of oly lifting.
in powerlifting they perform the same strength exercises that anybody in every gym does to build strength and muscle, benchpress, deadlift, squat. plus in powerlifting competitions the athlete have spotters to grab the bar if he fails and myriad of safety precautions. so it's stupid of you to claim that powerlifting is as dangerous as olympic weightlifting.
olympic weightlifting started as a dick measurement contest between males to see who was the most alpha. that[s why it ignores every common sense and safety precaution one can imagine. the only reason it's in the olympics is because it's old.
in every fucking olympic games at lest one weightlifter breakers their bone or dislocate their joint, and many have injuries that will take months if not years to recover, that when it's not a lifetime injury. olympic weightlifting is outdated and dangerous as fuck. i stand behind my view in the topic.
it's fucking stupid to lift over 200 kilos of weight above your head in one movement, then try to balance that heavy ass weight in the last second above your head with your elbows locked. to me snatching barbells is a recipe for disaster
@@Al.j.Vasquez i meant to say 150 kilos, not 250 that was a typo
Basically he didn't enjoy it enough to try and get better.
Zack. Found you because of Juji. Really hope to see you back soon!!
Hey dude I just subscribed and came from jujis channel. Super interested to watch your future content and learn more about weight lifting. This is coming from a gym goers of 6 years with no weightlifting experience
Anyone know who coaches Clarence? Dumbledore has died
Gandalf aka gabriel sincrain give him tips for improving
Eugene Poon gurph (the fridge)
Spoileeers!
Always seemed to me to be a great way to take a free trip to snap city. But it does look kind of fun
5:11 I’ve probably watched most of clarence’s content, but I’ve still never seen move as fast as he did just then. Wtf?!
Missing frames
I feel the same as Juji. I can pull over 650, squat over 500 and bench 4 plates but I literally can not do a snatch to save my life. I can power clean and I can over head press but I can't do the snatch with more than 135 and it feels like my shoulder is going to tear. I also get insane amounts of knee and lower back pain from trying to squat low but I end up just screwing it all up. But maybe that's where a coach would come in.
One thing is certain, just doing the moves with the bar is great for mobility and balance and the overhead squat is a great posture check.
I feel the same way for the snatch. Looks great but I have too many mobility issues in many areas. The clean & jerk is where I am “better “ at
Collab with Cailer Woolam. You and Tom mentioned hook grip and how it relates to the deadlift.
Agree ,but it could be taught at high school level and integrates with high school sports better than power lifting or body building. There are variations that can be taught.
First of all awesome video as always second of all was that UFpwrlfter at 1:46? If it is I’m so happy you know about him. Dudes bench is INSANE.
I've watched lots of weight lifting guides here on youtube. Although I have yet to be visiting a weight lifting gym, I do practice the small thing like how to properly get in to a front rack, how to bounce the bar of your hip, and squatting with a bar over head. I do hope I'll get the hang of it so I might have some sort of base ones I get around to see a coach.
Messed around w some power snatches today. Was super cool throwing weights overhead. Altho I love bodybuilding too but all of this is for my own enjoyment anyway.
great vid Zack
I've always seen more appeal in chasing a 1000lbs DL than chasing any crazy total in oly lifting. I think a big issue is perception, social media paints powerlifting, bodybuilding, strongman, etc as bigger sports even if they actually aren't. It feels easier to gain recognition in these communities rather than oly lifting.
1000lbs DL and end up looking like an immobile elephant no thanks lol I'll stick to oly + iso exercises
@@sadbadmac Cailer Woolham is literally the same size as Zack and is closing in on 1k. You don't have to be Eddie Halls size to hit that number.
@@ConnorLipke Yeah well thats pretty fucking impressive because definitely doesn't look like it lol
EDIT: Its mainly my personal preference on aesthetics. There's basically just three modes: uber-strength, strenght+size, and gainz4days. I just prefer the intermediate of the three ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have a great admiration for weightlifting in general, since I fell in love with weight related sports a few years back. But its a shame, since I hail from a country that never, ever had any widespread history with weightlifting. There's simply no interest here, people dont talk about it, or when they do it they just say "oh, that crossfit thingy?" The last time weightlifting was even en vogue was in the Pan-American games, when Fernando Reis (which is a beast of a man, good lord) won his third consecutive gold in the competition. Less than a week later, no one even remembered his victory.
As such, its pretty much impossible to find any weightlifting club outside of the big centers. For god's sake, its hard to even find any gym that barely caters for powerlifting style training!
Its a shame, really. Even though I always loved martial arts (currently sitting at a brown belt in judo after 11 years of training) I'm pretty sure that I would be absolutely trilled to practice such an amazing sport even when I was a child.
Here's to hoping that things do get better, not only in the US, or Europe, but all over the word for Weightlifting.
Bruh, you won't hear people talking about weightlifting, neither will they talk about bodybuilding or powerlifting, most of them are not interested about what others lift.
"I didn't learn to snatch in 1day so I'm just gonna quit"
So good mate! I think we’re slowly turning that - don’t drop weights macho attitude that leads to judgement in Gyms, so good.
This is a very well made video! Keep it up! :)
Really great opinion piece!
I don’t do any weightlifting but I still find your videos very entertaining for some reason
Those things aren't exclusive to each other, now are they?
Interesting! I just wish they could once experience the thrill of pulling off a squat snatch that didn't work 10 times but then you hit that sweet spot with your timing and swing, and it just "flies" up! That feeling must be comparable to a "slam dunk" in basket ball, or scoring a goal in soccer, etc. And I bet with their strength, these Powerlifters would quickly get the knack of it (maybe a bit of mobility work needed up front ...). Cool content! :-)
By the way... was that really a 280 kg deadlift? Wow!! That's nuts! If I'd ever reach 200kg, I would be the proudest guy on the block.
Good video. Very informative.
I got into weightlifting for the challenge and strength benefits it offered. Never had a coach and am completely self taught. Only followed Greg Everett's programs but not coaching.. I love the sport but it can be frustrating.. especially when you take a technique day and hit 100 snatches all on camera :3
I won’t ever try a snatch or clean and jerk, because I don’t trust my shoulders. I snatch weight up to put it on my rack because I’m too lazy to take plates off, but that’s it LOL.
Hey, I love your Vids.
I was wondering what your opinion on Levan Saginishvili (I spelled his name wrong I know) is? Is his size mostly due to his genetics?
Genetics, steroids, bodyfat, training and weighing 180kg
When Anthony Bourdain started a cooks tour, it was apparent early that his narratives derived far from that of other syndicated shows. His voice was authentic and his opinions unabashed. I feel he gave new life into a traveling opinions based on his experience of what he knew to be unfettered truth. I feel you are doing the same, and truly appreciate your perspectives.
For me it was the amount of time needed to develop even safe lifts. I'm primarily a jiu jitsu guy with some muay thai here and there for fun. Taking months or years to learn how to snatch doesn't really line up with my goals. Love watching people who excel at it though.
What are your goals?

Hi I'm a new subscriber coming over after the collab with Juji and Tom. I really like your style of video's with commentary and the realistic/rational approach to lifting.
I just have one question about the vegan thing. Are you vegan, is Clarence vegan, or were you just trying it for a week?
Funny that you and clarence inspired me to do it.
Hi just want to say im big fan of juji they do crazy stuff but when i found Your channel it inspired me to do Olympic lifts i do this for a 6 months now,
it is really hard and when im about to moan i watch some of your advice's and i do better next time
coach would be great but it cost money
keep it up m8
I do weighlifting when I'm at my Crossfit gym...my globo gym has a platform and bumper plates but they do not allow you to drop the weight. Makes me wonder why they spent the money...or maybe they just don't understand what the equipment was meant for they just figured it was something all gyms are doing now. I watched a guy doing power cleans get a warning for dropping the weight on a weightlifting platform with bumper plates...so glad to have a Crossfit gym to go to.
Loved your energy in Juji’s video. How’d the vegan diet for the week go??
When you played earfquake, I felt that
Great video, great idea, good stuff
you have no idea how many thousand times i watched Clarence swoosh under that bar @.@
What’s wrong with doing a few power cleans now and then?
oh! i never knew you had a channel! good luck bro!
also i am starting to weightlifting in my commercial gym! wish me luck! cause i just love it!
How I like to view weightlifting and powerlifting is a race car and a pickup truck. Race cars focus mainly on horsepower for speed and acceleration. Whereas a pickup won't really focus as much on horsepower as it does with torque, which it needs to be able to pull as heavy as possible.
Is juji too big and strong now to revert to using an empty bar or lighter weights in a non proficient movement? Ie does it hurt his ego? His lower body mobility is great however his shoulder mobility seems to be causing him problems. Note the arm placement for front squats.
Yeah... tried learning some of the Oly lifts but I just can't get into them. I got to Power Clean 110Kg and push press it, but it was just brute strength thrown at an excercise. Learnt the one arm barbell snatch and got 55/60Kg up with it, but again it was just yanking a weight upwards while minding my back. None of them is a full Oly lift, but, I say that learning them well enough to fuck around with them in deload weeks// when you just wanna have fun throwing weights around is a good addition to one strength arsenal and a good way of finding weak spots in your body.
I am so happy you compared the Olympic lifts to something like throwing. I was a javelin thrower at Texas A&M and all we did was Olympic lifting and saw tremendous results in doing so. As my lifts on the hang snatch and cleans went up, so did the throws.
I'd love to be able to do some throwing at the gym! Even though I don't have a track and field background I tried javelin and shot put a couple of times and it's so much fun
go buy yourself a javelin and go to a local college when no ones there haha. or just some random field.
I’ve tried the Snatch a couple times now. It’s so difficult and awkward, love how it feels though.
I love doing the clean and jerk, but I suck at the snach. Trying to get better at it, but its really not a priority
