I really think it would be interesting to have Ed and/or other young members of the team do a breakdown of their personal finances the way Scott has in the past. It would be really insightful to see how they internalize and act on all of the information the podcast puts out.

On kids and teaching them how to have gratitude for money: have them volunteer for underprivileged communities and / or give them a (brief) experience where they have to work & pay for everything including living. When your daily experience is monetary abundance, experiencing monetary scarcity that many feel regularly will help them further develop that empathy.
Fantastic episode! I agree in that I've realized over the years that you must invest (time/money/effort) into the things you care about. However, in my opinion, there's no better return to be found over investing in familial relationships, with children having the most outsized returns.
Honestly no need to go to Africa to show your kids about how lucky and not at fault they are for the wealth they are born in. Take them to Kingsman Arizona, Oakland CA, Flint Michigan, Cleveland OHIO or one of the other many countless cities in the US
You go to dystopian cities in the US (a resource rich country) to see mental illness, drug addiction, people that choose a certain lifestyle, and dysfunctional government without a plan to deal with those things. Going to a poor country in Africa is a completely different situation.

I wonder if not flying private would be a good thing for that. Also being rich could be a privilege but being poor could be an even greater one. For example I’ve heard that in the Blue Zone Nicoya people are very poor yet happy and live long. Is this true?

Come on, Scott- I know you see the hypocrisy of using a private jet to fly your kids to Africa- to see the less advantaged people. Your heart is in the right place, & you’re right about kids being so different from the same parents. The results are infinite. Sorry if my first sentence sounds mean, it’s not meant to be so.
Hypocrisy? Authenticity is about being who you are. How should a multimillionaire and his children travel when traveling to Africa if not by private jet? What is the point of being a multimillionaire if not to be able to fly in a private jet if you want? After all, Scott used to own his own private jet, and sold it last year I think, because it was a thing for a while. And he was thinking of investing in the engine refurbishing side... Flying your kids in a private plane when visiting Africa when you are a multimillionaire is absolutely the right thing to do. It's safer and far more comfortable than going by a commercial flight. I mean, how do you expect authentic multimillionaire to travel to Africa? Barefoot and the back of an ass?

Great podcast, but I wanted to share a perspective on the part about taking your kids to Africa to show them poverty. -> Poverty exists in every country, including in the U.S. You don't need to go far to expose children to the realities of economic hardship-there are shelters, food banks, and struggling communities in New York City. It's important to remember that Africa is not a monolith, and the stereotype that the continent is synonymous with poverty is a harmful and outdated narrative. There’s so much more to Africa-its rich cultures, resources, the hassle and drive by the people, cities and villages -than this narrow view. Just challenging these misconceptions, please show your children a more complete and accurate picture of the world.
Having MBA doesn't show someone is smart, just that they have $$$ to pay for it. If she had PhD in Math, Engineering, Brain Surgeon or something in STEM them we can talk. Having MBA is not measure of someones intellect

This is one of the reasons why the wealthy must pay their fair share of taxes. You shouldn’t be paying for healthcare through a provider.I live in Canada,our system isn’t perfect but you are not getting billed like you are in the U.S. if you had decent healthcare you wouldn’t be having most of this conversation. If they did ,North America would have way better healthcare, highways, pay,etc. On the subject of telling your kids how much money you have , absolutely not. Money in the parental/ child relationship can become transactional .teaching your kids how to become self sufficient is the best parenting you can do

I will disagree, for most part. His message about supporting your family to the best of your ability applies to all classes and so does the desire to teach his kids about the value of money and relationships. He clearly empathizes with the poor, old, and broken but has lost some of the perspective about how family and friends support each other while being poor. However, most of this episode and incredible message still holds true no matter how much money you have.
@@DankoStojanovic the bit about encouraging his wife to splurge on earrings bordered on crass and is (inadvertently perhaps) an f-you to normal folks out there. People with real wealth don't really behave like that. Also, Scott's anecdotes of buying stuff for his sister's family and various friends suggest that he buys their attention and friendship with money. I would feel gross - and constantly wonder if my relationships were 'real' - were I to do that. Lastly, supporting one's parents is an all round fantastic and masculine thing, no argument there.
