    Something that’s not talked about enough is checking with your mobile carrier about their international roaming service before ordering a pocket WiFi or SIM card - so far, I’ve only seen one video advise that. My carrier offers free text and basic data, with upgraded data for $15 a week. Considering I mostly need my phone for Google Maps and some light web scrolling, that’s plenty for me.

    Whether you arrive at Haneda or Narita airport, I highly recommend taking the Airport Limousine Bus into Tokyo. Check online for their various stops in Tokyo. It may cost a bit more but you won't have to lug your baggage, transfer to different trains or get lost in the train station. Buy a ticket in the arrivals lobby after clearing Customs n Immigs. (There might be discounts for round trip tickets, seniors). You're allowed 2 pcs of luggage to go in the bus bay. Board, sit back, enjoy free wifi. There's even a toilet on board.

      @@mishunot. You will need to check their schedule online. I stayed at the Tokyo Hilton Shinjuku and the bus stopped there only at certain times. Also check what train station is nearest to your hotel and see if the bus stops there. You can always take a taxi from that particular stop to your hotel. If you're using USD$ the exchange rate makes the cost manageable.

      My travel agent booked me a Company called "Green Tomato" that had a driver waiting for me at the airport.
      After a 10+ flight, it was a Godsend just to be able to walk into arrivals and have someone standing there with a sign with my name on it to drive me to my hotel. Rather than having to worry about finding the train or bus depot.
      The price was quite reasonable as well, I think it worked out to about 26 dollars.

We got on the wrong train and figured it out after several stops. Then it was hard to get the right train even with Google maps because the information on the train itself flashed so fast in Japanese and English as it was coming into the station. Another great video; much appreciated. For those arrival very late at night, i.e.: closer to midnight, is the taxi into Tokyo and to surrounding western "suburbs" the only option, or, does the monorail and train lines still operate till the early hours of the morning? (I understand they do have to shut down for maintenance and safety checks). Thank you.

      Hi, the last train and monorail runs before midnight and don't start again until around 5:00 am. there might still be some buses depending on where you are going. Otherwise, there are plenty of taxis and almost all take credit card.I wish there were more options.

    Hello!
    Thank you very much for informative video. Really appreciate how your videos makes it easier to plan for first time travelers to Japan.
    Do you have any advice for a very early AM arrival? 4:45AM, it seems the Haneda Airport Garden is a good option to just walk around while everything opens up?
    I was hoping to get regular Suica in the airport but is that option not available? I understand that there was a chip shortage but recently it seems that it's only available in certain stations but there was no mention of it yet at the airports.
    I also tried to reach out via email (your website form), in hopes in getting a referral to Charles Schwab.
    Thank you!

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  3 месяца назад

      Hi, the garden is a good option! Many shops will open by 6am. I asked about the regular Suica in early February 2024 and the JR office at HND said it was currently not available at HND. They recommended visiting the office at Tokyo station where it is for sure available. She also mentioned a particular machine at Tokyo station but I don’t remember the location. But since this was a couple of weeks ago you might want to ask the JR office at HND if they are now available.
      And thanks about Charles Schwab, sorry we are very slow to respond to emails as we get so many. Currently, Schwab only offers referrals if customers are making huge deposits but we greatly appreciate you asking😀

Will we need to collect our check-in luggage before proceeding thru customs, and then catch our connecting flight? And should we purchase our Suica cards at Haneda or can we do it at New Chitose airport? I'm trying to figure out how much time to give for our layover at Haneda before getting to Terminal 1 for a connecting flight to Sapporo. Mahalo!

      We also flew JAL both legs. Yes, we collected our luggage at Haneda and transferred to a different terminal before checking our luggage for our flight to Sapporo. If you want to get a Welcome SUICA card you should get it at Haneda. It’s possible to buy a SAPICA card in Sapporo, but it may not be as widely accepted across Japan as SUICA. It would work in Hokkaido, though.
      Be sure to be aware of luggage allotment for your flight within Japan, as it may be less than your flight from Hawaii. Here’s some packing tips regarding that:

You can check in and drop off your check-in luggage there for your connecting JAL flight to Sapporo. You won't have to take your check-in bags on the shuttle and check in at Terminal 1.

    How much money would you recommend that I put on the welcome suica card for a 28 day stay? Thanks

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  3 месяца назад

      There’s no need to load all the value on at once. We usually charge our IC cards in 1,000-2,000 Yen increments. You could put a bigger chunk at first. We don’t like to put too much, in case we were to lose the card.

    I will arrived at Haneda airport and will take the connecting flight to ITM airport, Osaka. Can I purchase Suica card in Haneda airport while I wait for the connecting flight? If yes, where can I get one? Also, Is it better to travel from Osaka, Kyoto, than flight out Tokyo since the Shinkansen pass is very expensive?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  2 месяца назад

      HI, yes you can. purchase a Welcome SUICA or PASMO Passport as discussed in the video at those locations. Regular SUICAs are sold out again.
      As for transportation, I recommend you consider purchasing individual shinkansen tickets vs flying into ITM but compare the prices. Shinkansen will most likely be faster and a smoother ride since it is more direct, you don't have to go to an airport and no security checks.

    If you are catching a connecting flight on JAL or ANA, have you ever considered using the JAL or ANA Domestic Transfer/Connection Service Counter to check in and drop off your check-in luggage? As soon as you enter the arrival hall, walk a couple hundred feet to the right, and they will be on your left. We used it on a recent trip where we caught a connecting JAL flight to Nagoya in Terminal 1. It saved taking your check-in bags on the shuttle and checking in at Terminal 1. This was after a HNL to HND flight on JAL.
    In May, we plan to fly to HND on Hawaiian Air and catch a connecting JAL flight to Sapporo at Terminal 1. The question is: Can we use the JAL Domestic Transfer/Connection Service Counter if we fly into HND on Hawaiian Air? We have called JAL and the Haneda Information Center several times and have received conflicting information. It sounds like it may be up to the discretion of the JAL agent there. Have you heard anything about this?

    I travelled for the first time to Tokyo (Haneda) two weeks ago. I rushed off the plane (8pm) and went straight to immigration....hundreds and hundreds of people...took 1hr 15mins to get through immigration and customs...so no difference if you take your time or not it seems. The amount of inbound aircraft to Haneda would seem to me that no matter if you take your time or not, maybe consider that at least an hour might be reasonable to clear immigration and customs???

    • @KenshoQuest

      It’s only the tourist version of IC cards (Welcome SUICA and PASMO Passport) that expire after 28 days. Regular IC cards are valid for 10 years. It’s difficult (not impossible) to get a regular IC cards right now, since there is a chip shortage. That’s why I recommend getting a digital IC card, if you have an iPhone with Apple Wallet. Or if you arrive in Osaka you could get an ICOCA card. 🌸 Heidi

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Месяц назад

      Hi, do you mean you do not have an exit ticket out of Japan? If this is what you are asking then yes, most likely the airline from your originating country will not let you board. The reason for this is if you are not allowed entry into Japan for not having an exit ticket, the airline will have to pay for your flight and then it will be up to them to try and collect that from you. Each airline works a little different but in general this is the rule.
      Within Japan, you do not need any return ticket, you can fly anywhere one-way once you are in the country.
