Sad about kid not starting , maybe the retired guy would be best as he might be able to show another kid some of the hard work involved in your business. Best of luck on that !! Thanks for sharing. Stay safe 🇬🇧
I remember my dad bought a 1989 580K Case in something like 1993, and ended up having an issue in the the 4bt cummins motor, he ended up tearing the whole damn thing down on our concrete driveway one weekend, then put it all back together with a new piston and honed cylinder walls. Ran like a top till he sold it in 2016. (for about the same amount he bought it for back in 1993) He still loves the older 580 cases, He swears by em to this very day as the best damn backhoe built. Good nostalgia.
I am sure I said it before, but I was fortunate to work with a very experienced man, he was very strict, but fair and I learned so much. the salary was small, but what he taught me can never be learned from books and school and dealerships. Thank you Hans, you will always be remembered with respect.
The “kid” probably got sweet talked by a dealership. If that’s the case he will look back with serious regrets one day. Youth is wasted on the young. When you get my age and have enough wisdom to make good decisions you don’t have the youthful energy and strength to get it done. Our country is in such pitiful condition that a young buck that’s willing to make smart decisions can go a long way because so few young people are worth the oxygen that they breathe anymore. That’s just a sad fact. A local tech school here says that 50% of their graduates are washing out within their first year. He said two things get them fired. 1. Smartass attitude and 2. Cell phones... they can’t put their phones down long enough to get anything done. I’ve had a shop at my house for the last 15 years and I still work alone because I don’t have time for a bad attitude and I’m not competing with some kid’s cell phone. My son has a career in the Marines so it’s just me. I’ll just go until I can’t anymore.
Believe me i dont like the illegals pouring in, but some of those young Latino's will work their butts off, my Spanish is good enough to show him what i need done & i keep caught up. The last 20yr old white kid i had didnt do in 8hrs what my Mexican can do in 1-hr (true-story)
Babysitting guys working for me was one of the biggest reason I quit being a lead mechanic / service manager for an equipment dealer to start my own service truck....I told my old boss I'd rather be out in a storm, laying in the mud under a piece of equipment with hot oil leaking out on me knowing all I had to do was rely on myself to get the work done than deal with any more people problems and BS from management over me.
For me it depends on the person. Some guys great to work with. Like you explain something and they get it and remember it. Others just have no sense at all.
I’m glad you never got into contract territory with the “apprentice”. It’s a sad fact these days, few people want to work hard. That’s a hell of a damaged case half, something shifted hard in that case to cause that much damage, but we’ll never know. Hope you manage to find one.
it is hard to get young people to take a job you train them then they leave to go work for some one else leaveing you stuck. have a good day. thanks for the vids.
Thanks for the video Warren sorry to hear the kid flaking out on you. Will try to get a letter to you when I get done with my move. Seems I forget everything I m going to say when I get on the phone with you 🤷🏻♂️. I have a customer with a 580K series three, with a slipping trans so we’re going to drop the oil and check the screen, your videos are always helpful not sure how you manage it all. God bless
Warren you have an honest humble resonant voice and you are good to listen to. You may be some kind of hypnotist as your channel is addictive for me, or maybe its your common sense work ethic and philosophy. Its all a great combination
1 year qualified heavy diesel mechanic, I would give my left leg to work with someone like you, the amount of knowlege and experience I would get in 1 year in your outfit would be 10 years at a dealer
I understand your dilemma with hiring good mechanics, it took me a full year to convince the first journeyman mechanic we hired to join our circus of mobile repair. He is still with us and a great tech. Give it time and a good one will join you. Thanks for the videos
Sucks to hear about that kid not following through, I've been watching your videos for years and i just got done with my first semester in diesel school and man would i love to find someone like you to teach me and further my skills. if i wasn't so far away i would work for you in a heart beat.
Not many are willing to do heavy equipment repair s.. Alot of really heavy dirty work with high tech mixed in. Been doing that and Marine industrial since 1976. CAT is desperate to train techs today. All young people look up CAT tech training 4 year program s. A good solid career with benefits and all. I was in Union and Non Union shops. No one here in NYS can find workers.. All fields it seems kids brainwashed by internet and society to believe they are "to good" to be"manual labor" and Mechanics.. Even without a college degree. Crazy I tell people not to power shift tranny's just stop and shift fwd to reverse and only push dig in low range. Change transmission fluid and clean suction screen and planetary hub oils alot often ignored until it's too late. Or $$$$$$ Excellent Work thanks.
Great video Warren, if I lived closer Warren,I'd work for you .these days it's tough to keep busy with the covid crap going on .lots of folks are laid off . Keep up the great work .DJT will be back around 4th of July. Hope your misses hand heals up
Great video Warren. Sorry your help didn’t work out. It’s going to take years to catch up with the work you got lined up around there. Good luck and take care!
I just did this with a small dozer.Bought it off the internet and paid a very substantial sum for it only to find when delivered it is worth maybe half what I paid.It would probably cost as much in lawyers fees for a chance at recovering my initial investment so ,like this gentlemen ,I have decided to move on and learn a lesson and try to make the machine viable. It was bought to do personal work so I have time as needed to fix the machine.Never in a million years would I misrepresent something I was selling, but that's me and I won't have to answer for it.
The heck with all those nay Sayers, You have the perfect attitude for what you do, no matter how you do it. Keep up the awesome video's, I Thurley enjoy them.
You are swamped with work it is better to have to much work than sitting looking out the door hoping some thing will come down the road , being good at what you do also come with the mental stress of getting it all done and keep every one happy .
Sorry to hear about your young lad letting you down, I’m sure you’re manage you always do! Thanks again for your video Warren as always interesting, hope you can find some help I’ll be over ASAP 👍 Regards, Luke 🇬🇧🔧
Looks good on the outside. Never understand how people can just beat to crap equipment. The price of this equipment is an investment. Run it until it dies without basic preventive measures, today’s attitude of modern “workers”. Guess job security for you!
Bought a lot of equipment over the years that was owner(s) abused. Made great money fixing with usually easy repairs(many per unit) and selling them as working units.Owner of the TLB slipped off into the money pit: has to keep spending and hopefully he can find paying jobs for it to get some of the expense back.
And a failure by owners/ or managers. They should have maintenance check lists, primitive way would be to laminate them, for the cab. The current Operator/driver, must follow them they would be based on engine hours, for reporting that oil changes are require. Owners of a machine do conduct basic daily checks, and greasing. Why would, the employee not be expected to do the same, tick it off in an operator log book. And then, they must be held accountable.
@@grahamdunton3283 after graduating from Vo-Tech, I worked at a College University, worked in the construction side. Every time when we parked a machine, didn't matter if it was a 10min break or several hrs, it was mandatory for us as operators to check all fluids, grease the grease fittings, etc., etc. I will say, very little break downs. However, I'll also state, the equipment was just plain worn out, very old equipment but, still going strong. Cheers :)
Thanks for sharing bud sorry that your apprentice didn’t work out hopefully you will find a good set of hands soon! If I could get out there to help ya I would ! Let me know about #5 rod hopefully it’s ok but better have it checked and find ok then find out the hard way I’ve seen it now quite a few times on these ISXs with head issues and hydraulic lock and dealers just seem to overlook it or maybe just bang it out cause it’s not there $$$ but as an independent mechanic you got to go the extra mile because it’s your dollar and reputation on the line . Ok bud keep me posted take care 👍
It can be very hard to find good employees and - but the older people work out the best and yes you still have to do some baby sitting - that's just the nature of owning a business - make sure the work is done right because the owner is responsible and then the taxes and unemployment issues come up - if it's not one things it's another with employees
Thanks Warren for the tear down and inspection of the shuttle shift failures. I hope you have time to video the charge pump and its rebuild. Would case halves be sourced from salvage yards?
Young guys these days have two issues, "jobs and girl friends", they go through both like fresh socks. Commitment is something they need to be taught from some place, if not from the folks then it's gotta come from school or a mentor. Pity you were looking forward to getting that young guy online, thankfully you found out now, as you say, before you got yourself committed to a contract. Hang in there Warren, you will find someone sooner or later (hopefully sooner).. Stay Safe & Cheers!

The great difficulty in hiring of course is getting someone who's not only motivated to work (lot's of millennials have the wrong attitude) but also equally important is someone who can make progress with the jobs in a useful way for their pay. You need people who either have experience, or can catch on quickly, and that's not easy to find. If they waste the customers time and money you'll lose those customers in many cases. If you have to take much time to train them of course you're taking time away from the jobs you could be completing. Often that investment doesn't pan out because the 'kid' doesn't really want to learn, or they move on asap to greener pastures. I've worked with employment companies similar to Kelly, and they have their own pitfalls. Employment companies make the most money when they can employ as many of the people on their rosters that they can. When you ask them to send you some people to interview they'll send you the worst, least experienced, hardest people to place first.. You'll waste a lot of time sifting through people you can't use before you are sent the cream of the crop and even their best might not be suitable. The really good people, the ones you want are very easy for them to place and the companies that get them generally hang onto them.
Hey Warren, just subscribed, and noticed you have a shit ton on your plate! If you were in the market of hiring someone, "Indeed" is a very good place to search for a True professional in your field. Just food for thought. Ward
Warren, just FYI, the whole country is experiencing trouble finding help, then to find good help , lol 😂.. and the way you work, your going to have a hell of a time., I’ve got to the point where I have one guy I rely on, then my other helpers I have zero expectations, if they show up, great, if not , no skin off my ass.., I swear every time I really need someone to show up you could safely bet your life they aren’t going to be there.,
I forgot to mention, also with my Go Pro, it came with a wrist band that you can stop & start the video remotely ( I play the drums, and very useful ), that way you don't have to go back and forth to the camera.
This is a very common thing, especially with young people, to commit and then un-commit (sometimes without telling you) on jobs. Or work a couple days and then just disappear. No one has a good work ethic anymore.
Sorry to hear your apprentice bailed. With all your work going on very much appreciate the time you take to send us a video
Sad about kid not starting , maybe the retired guy would be best as he might be able to show another kid some of the hard work involved in your business. Best of luck on that !! Thanks for sharing. Stay safe 🇬🇧

Chance of a life missed, but it's up to him. Great video

That trans was shuttle shifted under power hard imo. Great videos! It will be next to impossible to find anyone to fill warrens shoes👍.
Great video wish I was closer I would help no pay I’m retired i have done this work for50 plus years
Destruction in the transmission case “ another one bites the dust “ or “ oh well” as the say

Thanks for another great video, Warren!
Love your videos warren! Can't wait for more!
Heard it on a yt video recently, the concept of tyres becoming unrounded after a tractor had sat for 20 years.
Thanks for the video Warren. Audio sounds good.

If i was not 66 a bloody physical wreak i would be there always preferd Diesels to petrols

Sry to hear what happen but I do really enjoy the videos you do thank you have a wonderful day

Audio is no bueno per nada. 🤷♀️
I can appreciate "upside down". I bought a $12,000 car then had to put a $8,000 engine in it. My only choice is to drive it.
I have a truck that has been such a POS that if it stops breaking down now it’s still going to take me until I am 105 years old before I break even in the thing. Absolutely the worst piece of junk that I’ve ever owned even though it has had impeccable maintenance.
Like always, great video. 👍
Wouldn't know where all that grease comes from... LOL
The thing I've learned about Case loader backhoe's, don't waste time buying them used. They're worn out and not worth the money to rebuild them. They're good machines and that's why when they're used, they're past their prime. Cheers :)
I'm a new goat dad, they are great animals, but indeed quite ornery!
That's not metal Warren, that is shrapnel.
good workers have been hard to find for some time, just getting harder.
As bad a shape as that old case is in when it's fixed up it will probably still be more reliable and cost effective than any of the computerized, emissions choked new crap they sell nowadays....
Had to laugh, "sounds like 8.3l Cummins driving by!"

Wednesday and Warren with coffee, has a good ring too it doesn't it!
As you can see- Warren only has a regular water "pressure washer", which
is less than adequate for his needs.
If I had the funds- I'd donate. He needs an actual "steam cleaner" on a trailer
that he can tow to jobsites and both Shops. His type of work is so much easier
and less hazardous when components are properly degreased before work,
and even before returning equipment to the Customer. I've seen Warren already has the portable tanks. He really needs to fab a decent utility trailer for parts and extra stuff.
I’ve torn a few of those sealing rings on the shuttle shaft, safe to grab one or two extra
I have that same transmission “it’s bad “. I have a good case half.
Please contact me 530-398-4850
Or wlrfixinit@gmail.com, can't get a case half from case or carraro. Desperately need one
Warren sorry your worker flip flopped on you. I need to find me some of those padded knee pants. I can't wear those strap on pads to good. I had a front end part of a case the other day. It holds the top steering knuckle bearing in place. It looked like your transmission parts. All worn an broke.🤔😳
Can’t believe you can’t find someone to help I often want to reach through screen an hold something or help lift. Shame I live in uk 🇬🇧
What about those two guys that appeared out of the blue down at Reno to help. Seems like some good blokes still about...
Sounds great Warren. Awesome video as usual...
That took a lot to break the case like that. Damn!!!!
Stick a fork in it, it’s done.. lol. Thanks for the video Warren..
My guess: broken pieces from the clutch pack ran between the gears and broke the case
Audio is good here on this video. If I had time I would come down and do diagnosis. I enjoy chasing problems. I just cannot afford 10.000$ for software without working. Tire hop that is funny. Drive a combine that has been sitting in storage for 11 months.
Looks like maybe (possibly) it has 17.5 rear tires on it that will cause major drive line stress whyle in 4x4. It's supposed to have 19.5 rears

Warren, just FYI, the whole country is experiencing trouble finding help, then to find good help , lol 😂.. and the way you work, your going to have a hell of a time., I’ve got to the point where I have one guy I rely on, then my other helpers I have zero expectations, if they show up, great, if not , no skin off my ass.., I swear every time I really need someone to show up you could safely bet your life they aren’t going to be there.,
Take the fuel cap off, replace everything underneath it, and it will be good as new!
Warren, be careful with that remote for the crane, I about shit when I wanted to replace one of mine..
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
I forgot to mention, also with my Go Pro, it came with a wrist band that you can stop & start the video remotely ( I play the drums, and very useful ), that way you don't have to go back and forth to the camera.
Bet that in 4x4 and was diving fast doing Wheelies and front tires hit down shocking shafts and broke out the case.
No body wants to do what we do anymore. My help is 60 years young!!!
At least 580's are pretty common, you should find some parts out there.

I'll bet the farmer was digging in 4wd without using the bucket and outriggers.
You have enough work for 3 guys
Looks like a 13,283 lb. boat anchor to me.
Machine was rode hard and put up wet. Probably worked like a rented mule to boot.
Did I miss something, is the kid not going to be working now?
He flaked out on me
@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 That's a real kick in the balls, sorry to hear that.
This is a very common thing, especially with young people, to commit and then un-commit (sometimes without telling you) on jobs. Or work a couple days and then just disappear. No one has a good work ethic anymore.
Well Warren I see your macanicking somebody else's junk. Just like us.
Speaking of remans was wondering what happening with that tractor
No reman let Warren do it and have it done right.
good vid warren
Very interresting Video 👍
One of the tags from the friction disc got between the gears and forced the shafts apart hard enough to break the bearing housing?
