Hi Baz, slightly tongue in cheek, but what is it that makes something a Uke ?, if they can be any size, shape, any number of strings ?, and made anywhere ? Cheers
+Anthony Gravestock it’s a good question, and a topic much debated with no absolute answer. Personally I think they need to have two things. Firstly tuning relative to GCEA -or a relative of it like DGBE etc. More importantly though for me it’s about scale length. People say if you put 4 strings on a guitar and tune to gcea you get a uke - but of course you don’t. The scale is twice the length and that changes the resonance.
