I saw pharcyde on tour with Funkdoobiest and cypress hill... ALL on there first albums. Pharcyde use to break dance and put on a show! Son Doobie was breaking bottles over his head jumping from the speakers. B Real was crowd surfing and Mosh pit was sick. That was the SICKEST Concert i went to in the early 90s
Yup... the first song I heard by them was "Soulflower" from The Brand New Heavies Rhyme Experience album. I loved it immediately. They didn't even sound like a new group. They already sounded seasoned and mature. So when their album dropped, I copped it because I remembered them from The Brand New Heavies joint. Great debut, but my favorite joint by them is their second one, Labcabincalifornia. A masterpiece in '95 that got overshadowed by the heavyweights, like Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and The Infamous. J. Dilla did his best work with The Pharcyde, imo. It was like he was made for them. "Runnin" is an even greater song than "Passing Me By," imo.
man so sad these dudes couldn't work out their differences and i guess it's easy from an outside perspective to say get the band back together but the truth is when someone who is supposed to be family dog's you and hurts you bad then sometimes you just gotta let go and move on! thankful for the 2 very dope albums though especially labcabincalifornia. rip Dilla.
@@WhiteLabelRadioShow i was lucky in 2008 they came together for a number of shows, one was the good vibrations festival here in australia, i got to see them perform live as a group even though i know there would have been tensions behind the scenes it was so dope to experience that.
Fucked up how slim left, groups go thru shit, if the love is real then one day yall will make peace and find a way back to each other. Much love to pharcyde.
Seems like Tre always wanted to be a singer or more artsy fartsy kind of dude. Which is cool but he's not a strong enough vocalist to carry an entire song/album just singing. Some people are just better in groups. Fatlip I think is strong enough to be a solo rapper AND brings a lot to the group.
Its unfortunate as a listener that they had to part. Still my favorite old school hip hop group tho. I appreciate all the 25 years of listening pleasure.
See the thing is you need time apart From one another. Once you do shows and studio time That's a lot time together. You need space to one self and have clarity in mind. That's why Freestyle Fellowship Is still going strong...they do music together but have solo project as well. SPACE IS THE KEY WORD!!!
Sadly, this is not an uncommon fate for groups packed with so much talent. But, fortunately, we've been blessed to experience their groundbreaking art. I pray for peace & love to all of them. Without question, one of my top Hip Hop groups ever. Rap, since, write, dance... They did it all & in a way that's all their own. No one has dared to copy their sound.
Something don't add up with Imani's story. He said Tre wanted to leave because he couldn't be creative with Fatlip. That may have been true then but Tre has been making good music with Fatlip the last few years. If the breakup was between Tre and Lip, why they working together now? To me, it seems like Imani is salty about the past or he's leaving out some of the story that may be his fault.
Screw making records. Touring was always the bulk of money for a rap group anyway and especially when that music making era has taken its toll. Pharcyde got mega hit songs that they audience remembers word for word, melody for melody. You don't have to be all up under each other like that to make that paper. Go to tour town do your radio and internet interviews get your hotal rooms and stay out of each others way but make that paper you are old for creating those nostalgic songs everyone from that era remembers.
(6:26) So they basically broke up becayse of tre, fatlip wanted to be a solo artist and always doubted the group. Tre didn't want other members of the group to work with fatlip saying that he was too negative. So they made a choice tre or fatlip, Fatlip left .
Fatlip did say once that at that time, he wasn’t in total agreement with Tre singing instead of rapping as he thought it wouldn’t credit them as a proper hip-hop group
At some point in human civilization, bands/group will have to recognize they have to gave each other creative space. I hate hearing guys say "he messed up the group by trying to do a solo album". Maybe he wanted to do stuff that you guys hated on/thought was corny. Maybe he wanted to just hear his own voice for a while.
Browns voice hasn't dropped one octave since 88'

Growing up in NY... We always felt PHARCYDE was an extension of The Native Tongue Family....
The creative process, lyrics overall energy....

Agreed , Labcabincalifornia was sonically ahead of its time
Fat Lip was the glue.....I love their first two albums especially Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde but without Lip it was not the same....
William Elliott Lip was the only one able to drop a great solo project. Even though it’s underrated, The Loneliest Punk is still a masterpiece
@@milesb9191 Slimkid has dropped some solid solo joints

In 2022 three of four members of The Pharcyde : Imani, Fatlip and Slimkid3 are back together and will have an album out together this year.
why isn’t brown gonna be involved? not caught up with the modern stuff, just wondering. there’s beef or he’s just not interested?
@@britney5256 he just doesn't want to be apart of that collective anymore.
This breaks my heart......such a talented group ripped apart from internal drama everything from J-Swift on down to Tre and Derrick (Fatlip).
I always had a feeling it was slim kid tre!! thank you!
I real miss rappers like this
Never the same without all 4 members
Damn so sad to see this, as far as I can tell bootie brown look like he's open to it. Let past be past if possible, but I feel for them now.

It could very well be for old times sake considering Romye and Imani don’t stay in touch with him
Fat lip was originally a solo artist when he met the rest of them, tre and imani were friends from school
Fatlip kinda describes the breakup a little differently in that old documentary he made so I'm not too sure if I believe Imani completely
Romye and Imani were always my favorite members.
A 14 year old kid is listening to all ur albums!
god bless you
