50 year old male here. Artists like Liv transcend normal sexual politics. Many of us have experienced this kind of pain, and the I am waiting....waiting......to consume everything she puts out. She is on another level! Goosebumps, shivers, and multiple cries...especially on Hope you're o.k.
I love that "brutal" is the first track. Cause it literally ends up like "I don't even know where to start..." AND THEN THE STORY STARTS.
Then in "traitor" she explains what happened, then in "dl" she explains HER reactions and feelings, then the stages...AMAZING.

@@alexcooney2564 yes. the second person she talks about in the song, the girl, obviously is apart of the lgbtq+ community hence the line “her parents hated who she loved”. the line “address the letters to the holes in my butterfly wings” means that olivia needs that closure that her old friends are okay, so that she can fly because a butterfly can’t fly with holes in its wings. she feels empty not knowing for sure that they’re doing okay and in a way guilty.
happier was an original song on her insta from 2019 and it was when I fell in love with her songwriting. So glad people finally get to see how beautiful that song is😭

i think “hope ur ok” is her message to the lgbtq+ community. when she says “his parents cared more about the bible than being good to their own child, he wears long sleeves cause of his dad” and “her parents hated who she loved” and “with the courage to unlearn all the hatred”. she could also be spreading awareness about child abuse too with the first verse.
As a child who grew up watching other children get beat up and experience emotinal violence and watched her mother get beat up and experience emotional violence I agree with the last part.
Well yeah it definitely is advocating for abuse. The line "he wore long sleeves because of his dad" gets overlooked a lot lol.
Yeah I like that it can be interpreted different ways but I definitely see it as her friend's parents being anti LGBTQ, and her other friends' parents being physically abusive (or maybe both)

I feel like throughout this album, she was going through the different stages of breakup. Her album is genius. It's such an amazing album, and I love how much you respect and love Olivia. Her voice is amazing and her writing lyrics ability is absolutely amazing

The way you are not familiar with lorde's music while checking out all these artists. Pop music has literally not been same since 2013 . Even Taylor is extremely inspired by her music . Once you check out pure heroine and melodrama by lorde . Most of the music you're checking out on the channel will make INSANE sense.

I love how she takes you through the story of this tragedy of a relationship, and then you finally get to “hope ur ok” and you kinda roll your eyes thinking she hopes the guy who broke her is ok.. but then it turns into a surprise love letter to the people who she actually cares and thinks about because of the impact they’ve had on her 😭😩💚
I have been more excited for this album release and his reaction video than I was for my paycheck today tbh.

After listening to half of the album, i was like.. is she asking us if we are ok with ‘hope ur ok’ ? Bcoz I certainly wasn’t!
In the last song, the girl she’s referring to wasn’t accepted by her family because of who she loved and her parents cared more about who she loved than the well-being of her daughter. I love how olivia incorporates lgbtq+ acceptance, because she knows her own personal problems could never add up to her friend’s.

Actually, I think Favorite Crime is her finally coming to terms that she has a part on why she's hurting. After all, she admitted on Traitor that she knew what was happening, that it was toxic, but she chose to stay in the relationship. This is her finally coming to that last stage in the relationship: acceptance. Wow. I just love this album. So well done!

I feel like Happier is such an underrated song! I cried when I first heard it, it just hits you some type of way, and I’ve seen a lot of people say its one of their least favorite song and I’m like HOW!?
correct me if i’m wrong but i’m pretty sure “hope ur ok” is about lgbtq+ acceptance. being gay myself, this genuinely was one of my favorite songs on the album just cause it hits so hard and i can relate to it most.
i think it was too, but i do think it can be interpreted in different ways for different people which is one of the reasons i love it!
I’m a lesbian, and that’s how I interpreted it. The part about the girl from middle school having the courage to unlearn all her parents’ hatred hit hard.
I am not part of lgtbq community but I can relate to the song from the perspective Olivia is singing. Violence is so normalized in my country and there are so much people I met , so much hurt kids and I truly hope they are ok .
