- Amtrak's Northeast Corridor Volume I
New York City to Philadelphia
Pentrex is proud to present an exclusive look at Amtrak's pride and joy, the Northeast Corridor. Produced with Amtrak's cooperation, this video focuses on the electrified, heavily-trafficked south end of the line from New York City to Philadelphia.
Once owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad, the corridor is an interesting mix of old and new technologies. Trains roar down the electrified mainline at speeds of up to 125 miles-per-hour. This section of the corridor is governed by Automatic Block Signals and is manually dispatched from Philadelphia. Yet manned block towers dating back to the turn of the century can still be found in use on the line. This is in stark contrast to the welded rail, concrete ties, modern trains and higher speeds achieved on the corridor in recent years.
You'll experience non-stop Amtrak and commuter train activity at Penn Station, Hudson Tower, Newark, Trenton, Princeton Junction and Zoo Interlocking. You'll also visit busy "A" tower in New York City and Zoo Tower in Philadelphia. Both of these venerable interlocking towers will be replaced in the near future.
The train action between New York City and Philadelphia never lets up. Come with Pentrex for a look at over 150 different trains in action during this exciting visit to Amtrak's Northeast Corridor!
It's great to see these American trains. Thanks very much!!
Buying this history. This was before my time. But i still feel close to it. I used to visit hamilton and princeton junction when the ALP-44s and AEM-7s ruled the line. Now i have to drive 2 hours to see the ol' ALP-44s sitting in long term storage.
June 18th will be the last day of the AEM-7s in service. I was going to go on the farewell tour, but it was sold out. |-(
Farewell Toasters. You had a good run. You pioneered a new age in American High Speed, and you even ousted one of your replacements. May you all rest in peace. You've earned a proper goodbye.
Thanks!
I would agree , as there is no Phase IV paint in sight. Also there is heritage coaches as well.
Cool Vid!!!!!!!!!
Check that out from 2:00!!! That AEM-7 pulling the Metroliner is ONE FAST TRAIN!!!! PHOOSH!!!!! PHOOSH!!!!! PHOOSH!!!!! PHOOSH!!!!! PHOOSH!!!!!
Good vid, but I wish there were some vids in which we can see Amtrak SDP40fs. They lasted on the east coast until 1982 on the Silver Meteor and Silver Star.
& the New/Improved desert wind rolling out onto Las Vegas, Nevada, & Onward Ho 2 L. A. , California.
The video was made years before the Acela trains were brought into service.
Great Video Pentrex!! I wonder when it was made?
that was when they had the x-2000 trains, right? to be honest, i prefer those over the acela.
Those AEM-7s? Those were replaced by ACS-64 locomotives.
Early 90s I think
Have you guys ever filmed the trains in West Trenton?
Soon Northeast Corridor will amke change by introducing the Avelia Liberty and Amtrak auto train
0:44, I've never see this before!
And, what kind this of unit type?
FlyBikes089 fl9
It's not the same as when it was the PRR and NH operated the NEC.
Is it just me or was the 1990s better
yea that was funny lol
They should have showed the Acela.
But this was filmed long before the Acela's hit the rails.
The video was posted after Acelas came out, but it was probably filmed way before.
@no1reallycaresabout its in all likelyhood another engineer, but at least def another RR employee
FL9.
Anyone know what the narrator’s name in this dvd?
If I recall correctly, it may be Danny Harmon. He has a channel here under the name "Distant Signal"
Thats all I ever hear about with Amtrak...the northeast corridor......when are you gonna put high speed rail lines in the Midwest, and screw the northeast corridor
