This song Mike (the rapper) wrote for Chester because he noticed Chester was heavily abusing alcohol and drugs at that time, and this song is what made Chester pull it together and try to stop
actually Mike wrote it for one of his drug addicted friend. He sent the lyric to Chester and Ches cried right after reading it. But yeah, it does make sense if u link to Chester also. Beautiful message.
Great reaction I love Linkin park they are my absolute favorite band. If you want to hear Chester really scream listen to No More Sorrow or listen to Given up. Given up will make you say how the hell did he do that with the scream that he does.
Most of L.P's songs are about Chester's mental health problems. This is, in general, a problem of our time. Many people struggle with Depression, and not everyone can talk about it as openly as Chester did. RIP Chester .
Kind of a misunderstanding and assumption from fans. This song in particular was wrote by Mike, years before Chester and he knew each other, and is about a high school friend and addiction/bad habits in general. It just so happens that Chester also had an addiction problem and depression issues and this song in particular Chester related to so much that he could not perform it at first due to the pain it caused.
Mike (Rapping, Keyboard, guitar and produces) was one of the ones who got through to Chester to get help with his sobriety. It was "Breaking the Habit," Mike wrote the lyrics and showed it to Chester to give him that final nudge into wanting to get help, and when Chester read the lyrics, he just broke down and cried and it finally gave him that final courage to go into rehab and started going to therepy. Then this song became his #2 favorite of theirs to perform. Then at anytime if Mike seen that Chester was really struggling with his depression and sobriety he was one of the main ones that would pull Chester back from that ledge. The whole band is basically a family with a tight bond/chemistry that they have. But, Mike and Chester were the closets and a very powerful duo 💜
I’m really enjoying your reactions! Text or lyrics, as long as viewers understand you, it’s fine, in my opinion. I like “text” because it makes me think about the lyrics as a statement, without music. Music and text together are powerful, particularly for Linkin Park’s work. Thank you!
This song was Chester's favorite song and shakes me to the core hearing it after his passing. I'm in tears because the saddest part about this song is that it could be interpreted as breaking the habit of addiction. But when you watch this masterpiece of a music video Chester is showing us he broke the habit by jumping from the building breaking free of the pain because in the last chorus he says "I know I'll never be alright." Its goodbye. His spirit leaves him and becomes one with the other people struggling. It's like I can feel that spirit right with me now as I listen to it. Haunting, devastating, and their deepest darkest song.
Bro, I'm not even an english native speaker and I understand that is not just about drougs. One girl was pregnant and the father of the baby beat her up. The other women discovered his husband was cheating on her. The third girl was depresed and cutted her wrists, the salesman was doing drugs and the most important: Cheaster jumped the roof where he was singing, landing on the car. This song is not only for thouse with drugs problems... is talking about depression and the consecuences.
This should also have a billion views like in the end or numb. It is really an amazing song. The live version on Milton Keynes and SUMMER SONIC was way better. Thank you so much to Mike for writing this especially for Chester.
You really should listen to Given up if you want to hear Chester crying out for help, it's one of the most emotional ones he did along with the one more light performance in tribute to Chris Cornell.
If you depressed you live in past if you anxious you live in future if you happy calm and peace you live in present =) just enjoy the moment, stop living in the past, and dont worry about future, ok
does anyone not get that Chester is talking about giving into his depression and breaking the habit of acting like he's ok. "ill never be alright" "ill paint it on the walls". I think alot of people miss that big part of the subtext
Not sure if you know but sadly the singer Chester Bennington took his own life on july 20th 2017, he was suffering from depression for years RIP Chester 💔

This hits different with how Chester died.
