Hey Thomas, as a suggestion I would like to see in AG's videos a bit more attention on where you are filming (city/country). You mention it sometimes but not always and I'm often left curious where you were filming from (southern spain in this video). Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
This is an Astra that is desirable. The latest Peugeot 308 has a lovely interior but why does Peugeot continue to put the heating ventilation controls in the touch screen. I do like that Vauxhall Opel have separate physical controls for this. The design feature behind the rear doors are part of the Astra heritage. The Kadett C and D was badged as the Vauxhall Astra mk 1 & 2. The first Ford that had the heated Windscreen was the 84 Scorpio, having owned 2 Fiestas with this feature, you can learn not to focus on the wires and it's such a useful feature for quick defrosting and demisting with no scraping
Fantastic looking Astra - I love the exterior design, not a bad angle on the car which is rare these days. Interior is a little more mainstream but nothing offensive and it looks neat and tidy. Biggest problem for me is that it's not quick enough. Its described as their 'performance' sub brand and certainly looks the part but 7,5 secs 0-100 is pretty average these days and could be comfortably beaten but quite a few of its competitors and also a fairly ordinary EV would beat it. Golf GTi is a whole second quicker and pretty much the same price (in the UK anyway). Ok you would have put with the grumpy looks, hateful interior, crappy software errrr ..... hmmm actually on second thoughts I WILL take the Astra and just drive a little slower !
I briefly owned an astra F from 1994 and an F from 2000, first being an x20xe N/A, the latter turbocharged 2.0. Both irl comfortably matched 7.5s/100kmh, unlike what official specs may have suggested. For Opel to fail to improve acceleration 35 years later (the 1988 launched Kadett 20xe was light as a feather and nimbler still than the astra F) is a bit of a let-down isn't it.
Those figures just don't cut it for a hot hatch in 2023. Why would anyone get the expensive, heavy, complex and underpowered GSE if you can get a lighter, non-hybrid competitor with more power that a lot cheaper? (GTI, Focus ST, i30n etc)
Crazy how the legroom is gone, I drive a Astra K from 2017 and am tall with long legs. Adults can sit behind me just fine. Maybe the race seats impacts the size also.
With a Golf you get quality , reliability and good resale values . Vauxhall , like Ford , will sell so many very cheaply that they will be worthless after two or three years .
Using astra k for 7 years, 135k Kms done. No issue at all except trigger chain which has more cost comparing belts. but It is still running like new. Recent cars equilized mostly, there is no much difference left, what you pay what you get, if you pay more to Golf, you will get maybe better internal quality, that's it.
