William Gillette was a remarkable Sherlock Holmes and had a “castle” built in Connecticut with secret passageways & hidden rooms. My sister first took me there as a present because of my love of Sherlock Holmes, actors & unique buildings. It became a favorite place for me to visit

So,so many actors that I would love to see as Sherlock Holmes starting with Raymod Massey. I can't remember his name but a British actor potrayed Holmes in a Father Dowling mystery. His portrayal was so good as when he was happily moved to see all the modern achievements and when he tried to drive a car. I felt sad when he tempted Dowling t go back with him and failed. What a new series that would have been in the hands of talented writers. Thank you very much for posting this film.

Arthur Wontner was my favorite portrayer of Sherlock Holmes but others did a good job of it to. He mostly resembled Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's drawn picture of Holmes.

This is actually a BRITISH print of the film, hence the opening title "SILVER BLAZE". American prints, under the title "MURDER AT THE BASKERVILLES", are MISSING several scenes, including the opening scene where the real estate agent shows Moran the warehouse. I have this on a copy of a videotape I rented ages ago, but the DVD I bought recently begins when Moran shows Moriarty the interior. I haven't checked in detail yet to see what else is missing from the U.S. prints. It makes me want to look around for a DVD of the U.K. print.

Amazing to see Ian Fleming playing Dr Watson.Apart from his distinguished war record and of course all the bond novels , It was one of his ideas on a list that was chosen to help the allies win the war.Operation Mincemeat The film made about it is called The man who never was.The dead hero who was dead to start with!!! saved thousands of allied soldiers lives in the invasion of Sicily And it was not until recently that he was recognized and given a memorial.

They may show Holmes and Mrs. Hudson squabbling all the time, regardless of who plays him, in the end, when Holmes retires to the country to keep bees, guess who he takes with him, Mrs. Hudson. A fun fact. Another one is, the guy playing Watson is the writer of James Bond books. Yep.
