This seems like a very good lens to take the ‘Quintessential’ dual ( two person ) portraits with a little bit of background fused in. I think this is a perfect for husband wife, daddy daughter, or multiple pets in the shot camera. I’m definitely interested in the skin tones. Definitely at F 11 to 13.
@@JinsungVideo Ciao! Skin tones are nice. Leica has always done a good job with them. Just be careful on overusing vibrancy and saturation as Leica does prioritise reds and you can see those pop up if too aggressive on the dials

Very cool!..everything is nice as it should be based on the original Q3…but some missed opportunities for sure for a better “update” especially that bump on the price point…it could have at least implemented a built in memory like their other models…also No CAI ( Content Authenticity Initiative) support which could have been nice to have and also a bump on better AF performance..because we all know that the original Q3 isn't as efficient in the AF..lol just some little things to point out..but at the same time all these points could have made the camera even more of a worthy "upgrade" and that fact that some of these points are available, i.e built in memory, CAI..and Lecia chose not to implement them in this body is kind of disappointing..for that price bump obviously goes towards the lens nothing else ..haha
@@ldmndz4652 thanks for watching! couple thoughts on what you said. Yes I agree, internal memory would have been great. Leica should just make it this way across all their top tier cameras. The CAI to me isn’t a big deal. If I screen shot an image all that info is gone. The tech still needs some work. The AF has improved over when the first Q3 was launched. It can get better but it’s improved. The lens in itself is a big upgrade. The MTF charts show it to rival the M 35 and M 50 APO options hence why the price is slightly more.
You know i would have loved Leica if they would have release a leica Q 43. The Q3 series sport a sensor with too much mpx on it for my liking and it comes with modern video features. The focal length of 43mm pretty much is on pair with our human eyes. That is an interesting choice. Yet for the cost i can kit out my m240 with some awesome glass and yes i do realise that the comparison between Leica M & Q is a flawed one
I still have quite a few gripes with the Q3... the slow sensor that makes e-shutter almost useless, the SD-door wrapping around the tripod mount just to fit those contacts for a wireless charging gimmick accessory, the flimsy port door, ... but my main issue was the focal length. My wallet hates me right now.
I have tested my eyes and my eyes have a FoV of 16-18mm. Why is everyone saying that they only see 45-50mm though? That's super narrow. By the way, 43mm is the standard focal length for full frame because √(36mm^2+24mm^2)=43mm
Though i believe Bresson would have chosen 28mm Q3 as he would shoot it on 50 with the frames, so he is seeing outside the frame. Otherwise some of his greatest work could not be made - or would have been made coincidentally :) For me the Q3 delivers everything 28 - 35 - 50. i could take maybe some restrictions to 43mm in account if the body would be significantly smaller :)
I guess we will never know but being he used a 50mm quite extensively this seems to be the natural fit. I think if you use the 43 you will find it less restrictive than you would think. It’s actually more accurate to what we see the framing of a moment is
If i had $6k spare, I'd buy one! But as it is, I have to settle for my Nikon Zf and Voigtlander 50mm APO, which I got on the strength of your review. Prob not too far the Q3 43.
I wish Leica makes a Q camera with either a 50 or 55 f1.2 or F1.4 lens. No one is used to use a 43mm lens. A lot of us used to learned photography with just a 50mm lens.
Not a big issue as they do sell an accessory to use filters. Reality is most an owners probably don’t use filters. Those that need to can get the accessory
@@btonelli The first thing I do is put an UV filter on all my lenses to protect my investment. Not an issue with the Q, Q2 or Q3 28mm and now . . . . you need a freekin accessory!!!
I am a Canon user and I do not have any experience with the Leica system. This offer is very tempting. It is said that the Leica system is easy and simple in terms of settings and menus. Is that true? I have a strong desire to own this camera. Thank you.
Best review I don’t want to be that guy but how comparable to the Zeiss Batis 40mm on any Sony body. I feel there’s a lot of people sleeping on then Zeiss 40mm f2

It's a shame that Leica even doesn't note on the box or advertisement that you need a extra lens hood if you want to use a filter in all modes, including Macro mode. I had to find it in the small print of the manual.
@@btonelli My only significant gripe (and it's a big one) is that a single UHS-II SD card in 2024-given this camera's other capabilities-is a major oversight, IMHO. If you're travelling with this camera, and something goes haywire halfway through the day while you're out and about and the card craps out, you'll never be able to recapture those moments. Built in storage (like the M11) or even a micro-SD slot (like the Zf) are really needed now. Especially at this price point.
@@RobertFalconer1967 agree. I also think internal storage should be considered. Not sure the reasoning behind the M cameras having this and the SL and Q cameras not to
Most people that wanted a 35 or 50 q Never used a q. If they would they would have noticed that for travel 35 is many times not wide enough. 28 was and is perfect. The q was meant to be a travel companion. If you want a camera that is great for more types of photography buy an M. The q 43 will leave you wanting for more.
Hello Bobby, very informative video and thank you for your thoughts. I always wanted a Q with a 50mm lens, while 43 is even better. This will be a wonderful camera. Now I bought both the Q and Q2 and sold both again. The Q3 did not tempt me but the Q3 43 looks tempting. Still, it will be not for me. While I am not a 28mm kind of guy, the lens was not the main reason for selling the cameras, it was the form factor. While the Q is slightly smaller than most mirrorless cameras, it is still not pocketable. So if I take this camera or an M or a Nikon Zf or... I have them in a small bag. The latter 2 offer me the chance to change lenses. I recall paying just under 4000 Euros for my first Q. Yes we have had inflation since then, but 6900 Euros for a fixed lens camera with sub par AF?? I agree the sensor and the menu are both brilliant. A Nikon Zf with at 35/50 or 50/85 combo cost you half the money as does the 40 1.2 and 75 1.5 set up with Voigtländer lenses. It has the better AF and/or manual focus assist. The sensor of the Leica is amazing but if we don't pixel peep or crop the hell out of it you will not see the difference. This is no Leica bashing, just my thoughts and I am a Leica M user now for 14 years and still love the unique system , the experience and the heritage. Clearly if someone is shooting most of the time at an 40mm ish focal length, wants the Leica experience and brand and has the budget , I assume it will be an awesome camera.
Hi Mark thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts which are all valid and good assessment. There are so many good options out there that it really spoils us for choice and the cameras mentioned also have their strengths.
I was hoping for such a Q model but F2 with this size of a lens? The lens is quit large for what it is. If I take a look over to the Sony E mount and it's 35mm F1.8 or the legendary Zeiss 55mm F1.8 and having in mind, that you can build it even smaller, when it is a body with a fixed lens - I don't really get it. It's a half stop less. I'm a bit dissapointed.
Hmm you need to take in account this also has macro capabilities, APO lens with superior optics (Sorry Zeiss 55mm f1.8) it’s better than the Zeiss and it’s all in one camera is quite a feat. It’s only slightly longer than the Q3 28mm
@@btonelli Yeah APO, but the term Apochromat is used even when it’s just a less complex secundary version. The Zeiss 55 is an old lens, if they would produce a new version, things would look different. It shows what you can pack in such a small lens. It’s just a bit underwhelming, wider and brighter lenses are even more complex to build, so this 43mm is giving me a lot of questions. I think I have to try it.
@@bodythetan Leica sells an accessory to use a filter. I understand this concern but I’m guessing Leica has done their research into how many actually use filters on their W cameras and probably the ones that do are a smaller amount

Always enjoyed my Minolta Rokkor 40mm F2 lens. This might just be the end-game fixed focal length full frame mirrorless camera - if my wallet allows for it 😢
The emperor‘s new clothes. Normal vision is not 43mm or 50mm, unless your head is cemented in place and your eyes locked in one direction. Normal vision is scanning back-and-forth. Unless you’re a photographer looking through a lens, your vision is not fixed in one place. The advantage of a 28 mm Q3 is that you can compose a broader scene and crop later if it’s too wide. I dare anyone who buys the new 43 mm version of the camera to later crop out in post. Can’t happen. For those who ever use manual focus, you will find yourself limited in zone focusing because the 43 mm does not have the same depth of focus as the 28 mm. When you’re engaging in street photography, you are rarely too far (needing a longer focal length lens), you are usually too close and need a broader field of view. I know people have clamored for this, it’s just not an advantage for a street photographer, and probably not for a landscape photographer either.
When we say normal vision when we look at any particular item, subject or person etc the focal length we see at is 43mm in full frame equivalent. This is science. Of course we scan around but when we take one photo it’s at a particular focal point. This lens may not be for everyone and that’s okay. No one is saying buy it haha. Some like myself prefer this. I don’t favor 28mm. I can respect the focal length but it’s not for me. As it comes to street photography perhaps take a look at some of the veterans and see what they used. 50 and 35mm were the most common.
My point. Your 43mm is a fraction of what the eye experienced. It is a narrow slice. While that might suffice for a street portrait, it reduces the likelihood of capturing a candid momentary event on the street. And if there is a three dimensional aspect to the shot, you will have to stop down considerably to capture what a 28mm lens can render wide open. That is science. The longer the focal length the less the depth of field. The 28mm is better suited for the street. As to landscape photography, wider angles have always been the go to. Be careful what you wish for- you might just get it. Caveat Emptor.
You should really be an ‘Anchor’ for someone like CNN. You’ve got the lot. Plus I wanna buy everything you talk about. Great intro to yet another bankrupting product.
For the 35mm or 50mm APO summicron, your paying way more than the Q3 43mm APO, and that's the lens without the body. From that perspective the Q3 is a deal.
Sadly, those who asked for 35mm or 50mm Leica Q, cannot even afford this camera. I love my Original Leica Q with the Creamy, Dreamy Summilux 28mm. If I did not trade my M240 and a few lenses, I could not afford it either.
@@btonelli It is an Internet BS telling people 28mm is not good or desirable. It is so much more useful to have 28mm when traveling. I'll probably never go back to Iceland and I am so glad that I had the 28mm instead of 35 or 50. Cheers.
@@Boxer1250RTI guess depends. For me I can travel with 35 and 50 and get the shots I want. 28 doesn’t do it for me but everyone has their preferences. Cheers

@@RouvenKasten I find it interesting how some look at this collaboration and find it less than a Leica camera completely made in Germany. I hate to break it to you but most Leica’s tech isn’t made in Germany and Portugal has a massive factory. Does that mean the cameras are less than? Not at all. It just means Leica needs partners to scale and yes they had partners even in the film camera days
@@btonelli You can see it that way, they are entitled to it. But you can expect more for the price these days. What if Leica was just about scaling?

@@ruff1draft yes
I still have quite a few gripes with the Q3... the slow sensor that makes e-shutter almost useless, the SD-door wrapping around the tripod mount just to fit those contacts for a wireless charging gimmick accessory, the flimsy port door, ... but my main issue was the focal length.
My wallet hates me right now.
Hahaha I hear ya. No camera is perfect but this focal length is what we want to have on a Q
@@btonelli Sure seems like it. Leica online store is sold out already apparently. Glad I ordered early.
I didn't get the Q3, cropping in from a 28mm to achieve a 50mm is sort of cheating when the subject has been distorted to fit a 28mm to begin with.
@@Stickybutton now no need to worry about those issues
I have tested my eyes and my eyes have a FoV of 16-18mm. Why is everyone saying that they only see 45-50mm though? That's super narrow.
By the way, 43mm is the standard focal length for full frame because √(36mm^2+24mm^2)=43mm
Hmm perhaps measuring wrong? 43mm some say 42.5 is what our eyes see in full frame
It’s about background compression than the actual field of view.
Though i believe Bresson would have chosen 28mm Q3 as he would shoot it on 50 with the frames, so he is seeing outside the frame. Otherwise some of his greatest work could not be made - or would have been made coincidentally :)
For me the Q3 delivers everything 28 - 35 - 50. i could take maybe some restrictions to 43mm in account if the body would be significantly smaller :)
I guess we will never know but being he used a 50mm quite extensively this seems to be the natural fit.
I think if you use the 43 you will find it less restrictive than you would think. It’s actually more accurate to what we see the framing of a moment is

@@RobertFalconer1967 agree
Some just don’t gravitate to the 28mm focal length. This is a much more user friendly focal length for more people I feel.
Agree. That was the idea that the designer expressed in the interview.

Great. 43mm is such a sweet spot lens. 28mm was 🤮
