This is so pretty. The way you play is so good. You have a style which I like about guitarists. Can I ask what were the tabs of the riff at the start? :$

You are so dope Girl... I let me 9 year old watch your videos to be inspired to play different music...but everytime I watch I try picking up the guitar myself. YOUR THE 🐏
I just came across this song yesterday and I found it interesting. If anyone wants to know how the chord progressions work, here is how: The song is in D major, but there are a few "borrowed chords" from D minor scale. Here are the diatonic chords from D major and D minor scale separately: I ii iii IV V vi vii Dmaj7 Em7 F#m7 Gmaj7 A7 Bm7 C#m7(b5) i ii bIII iv v bVI bVII Dm7 Em7(b5) Fmaj7 Gm7 Am7 Bbmaj7 C7 The 5 chords throughout the whole song are: Dmaj7| Am7| Gmaj7| Bbmaj7 Bbmaj7(13)| (repeat) The diagrams can be like this: Dmaj7: x5767x Am7: 5x555x Gmaj7: 3x443x Bbmaj7: 6x556x Bbmaj7(13): 6x558x As you can see, Am7 is not in the D major diatonic chords, it's "borrowed" from D minor scale (the 5th degree of D minor), same as the Bbmaj7 chord (the 6th degree of D minor). The technique is called "modal interchange", and it means you borrow some chords from the parallel key (the parallel key of D major is D minor). So why the progression sounds good? 1. You can actually play the first 3 bars like this: Dmaj7| Am7 D7| Gmaj7| D7: x5757x You'll find it sounds very smooth, and that's because if you look at Gmaj7 as the tonic chord (the 1st degree of G major scale), Am7 is actually the 2nd degree and D7 is the 5th, the "ii-V-I" progression is one of the most common progression in music and it makes "perfect" sense (the interval between A and D is a perfect fifth, the interval between D and G is also a perfect fifth, which is the most consonant interval besides a unison and an octave). I'm sure you're familiar with "Dm7-G7-Cmaj7" progression, which is also a "ii-V-I". 2. Bar 4 to Bar 5, you can actually play like this: Bbmaj7 C7| Dmaj7 Bbmaj7: x1x231 C7: x3x353 Again, Bbmaj7 is borrowed from D minor scale, and if you look at "Bbmaj7 - C7", the progression is actually the "IV-V" of F major scale, so normally you would expect an Fmaj chord to occur after the C7 chord, but in this song, it goes back to the tonic chord of D major, this technique is called "backdoor progression". The most common backdoor progression is a "bvii7 - I" progression. In D major (this song) it would be "C7 - Dmaj7" (in C major it would be "bB7 - C"). There are many reasons why this progression works, I'll just name a few of them: - if you're a beginner who doesn't know what a "cadence" mean: A cadence is the end of a musical phrase in which the melody or harmony creates a sense of resolution. The most basic cadence in major scale is the "V7 - I". In D major it would be "A7 - Dmaj" (the A7 chord creates tension awaiting to be resolved, and the Dmaj chord creates release and make you feel the phrase is complete) - if you compare the A7 chord (A-C#-E-G), to C7 (C-E-G-Bb), you should find they share half of the chord tones (E and G), and if you add the note C or Bb to the A7 chord, it would be an A7(#9) (A-C#-E-G-C) or an A7(b9) (A-C#-E-G-Bb) chord, they still function as dominant 7th chord (some ppl would call them "A7 altered" chords), but with even more tension. - if you look at the C7 chord (C-E-G-Bb) and Dmaj7 (D-F#-A-C#), you'll find the Bb and G of C7 are half step above A and F# of Dmaj7, so the Bb and G can function as "leading tones", which lead to Dmaj7, and that's why you can use C7 as a substitute of A7. (both "A7- Dmaj7" and "C7-Dmaj7" cadence sound right) To sum up, you can try to play the whole song with the following progression: Dmaj7| Am7 D7| Gmaj7| Bbmaj7 C7| (repeat) Dmaj7: x5767x Am7: 5x555x D7: x5757x Gmaj7: 3x443x Bbmaj7: x1x231 C7: x3x353 - "Am7" and "Bbmaj7" are chords borrowed from D minor scale. - "Am7 - D7 - Gmaj7" is the "ii - V - I" progression to Gmaj7. - "Bbmaj7 - C7 - Dmaj7" is the "backdoor progression". - You can treat the original progression (Dmaj7| Am7| Gmaj7| Bbmaj7 Bbmaj7(13)| (repeat)) as a simplified version.
Awesome tutorial! I'm still working on F bar chord, using Hurt by NIN to practice it and making the shapes used here made it so much easier to go back to F bar chord so thank you so much!

And show chords because everyone plays it in different ways but I think that you could simplify it and could you break the pentatonic scale associate with it thanks if you could do it Thanks anyway for reading my comments

Lower playback setting to lowest speed. She’s using the first two strings with her index and ring finger. Then she slides up a few frets and incorporates the third string. I learned it by slowing it down. It’s easier than it looks and I just started learning guitar. Good luck.
That one chord isn’t a diminished maybe? Idk either. Sounds good tho. Swear these videos are love through out the week to vibe out too. I’ll be in boot camp soon as my schedule opens up. Screenwriter life. Lol. Smh. Appreciate you Juno.
Thanks for always making time to do these. Even tho I’m not there yet I still love to watch. When u travel do u take your guitar with you on the plane or do you check it? I’m in Cali and was to scared to travel with my guitar so I’m using my uncles guitar to practice with but scared I’m gunna mess it up.
Hi!! I’m just starting guitar and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong it’s like I’m either not pressing hard enough on the frets or pressing to hard cuz it never sounds right?! Any help or advice
Hey, I’m gonna learn the guitar and I would like to sing while I play. What is the name of the guitar you used in this video, and do you have other recommendations for guitars where I would sing/play Daniel Caesar type songs? Thanks so much!
any acoustic guitar would be fine, it mainly depends on the player rather than the guitar itself to get a good sound. but from what I can tell, it looks like she’s playing a Taylor guitar, but it seems to be a 214ce DLX or higher. good luck on your guitar journey!
I went to play this and realized I need to learn guitar first lol
Literally same.
I love it cuz I'm the same way!😄🎸

The 5 chords throughout the whole song are:
Dmaj7| Am7| Gmaj7| Bbmaj7 Bbmaj7(13)| (repeat)
The diagrams can be like this:
Dmaj7: x5767x
Am7: 5x555x
Gmaj7: 3x443x
Bbmaj7: 6x556x
Bbmaj7(13): 6x558x
