Drake will eventually get his shot to start. But the team is so bad, there is no reason to rush him.

    • @user-en9qd5nx8w
      @user-en9qd5nx8w 25 дней назад +3

Sure don't rush it but at the same time there is nothing better than real game time, we know they're not going to be playoff bound, so why not let him play and learn. Take this as his growth year. If he sits the most or the whole year, then he won't learn as much. Josh Allen got tossed into the fire year 1 and sure it was ugly at times, but we saw flashes. It just boils down to if the ownership, management, coaching, team, and fans can have patience, like they did with the guy in Buffalo.

13:04 Jordan Love, Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes, Jared Goff, Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Mike Vick, and Drew Brees all sat at least half a season, and some sat multiple years. I think the opposite of this argument is true; you're much more likely to permanently ruin a promising young QB if you throw him out there without the coaching, line, and skill guys to allow him to succeed, rather than letting him observe the game and see what he can learn from the sidelines. QBs like Payton Manning are actually the exception to the rule, rather than the expectation (since he was terrible year 1, but turned it around rather than developing terrible habits.)

Why do you people that know nothing waste your time. Mac Jones was always lousy. In the first year there was some hope that he would be smart enough to overcome is obvious lack of talent. By the end the that season, it was a big question as he did nothing in Dec and in the playoffs. The guy couldn't run and had a weak arm.
Maye is 6'4", has a great arm and can run. Very athletic with very good downfield accuracy. Has so far shown great poise and has been able to easily avoid rushes to make positive plays. They want to work on his consistency and have him gain experience. At this point, it is amazing to think that people out there wanted to doubt him. He's almost a perfect young qb to have. He has shown no personality disorders like some qbs have. Couldn't ask for anything more. I just hope he doesn't killed behind a horrible O line. Only reason to be cautious.

I cannot take much more of this lol.
Even Maye's biggest fans have admitted his arm and his athletic talent were not his flaws. His flaws were his ability to run an NFL level offense, which is what AVP runs and wants Maye to run. Both Maye and Milton have discussed with reporters how little they have worked in an NFL style system since Pop Warner.
With that context I ask you all, why are we freaking out when he makes a pass? We should be freaking out when he starts recognizing schemes and play calling his receivers open. That's what the Bradys and Mahomes of the league do at a high level to ensure success.

That's an argument _against_ sitting the QBs down. It's like this: if you built a car for an 8-year-old, no 8-year-old would have the ability to multi-task, look out for traffic, pedestrians, hover over the brake while signalling. When does any individual naturally develop the ability to multi-task enough to be a QB? Around their 23rd birthday for men.
Purdy is the same age as Fields & Lawrence who yes, did benefit from not being put in too early. Lawrence is an unknown because of Urban Meyer & Fields was undermined by his coaches & roster but looked The Most NFL-ready coming out of college.
Simply put, your mind reacts to being surrounded by NFL linemen trying to sack you by going completely in to Fight or Flight panic. Zach Wilson. The very time the individual becomes capable of registering this panic but *setting it aside until the pass is off* is when they need to get in there. & we don't know where that is until it happens.
Peyton Manning had this inner switch flip mid-way in his rookie season. Once it did his INTs reduced greatly. Why? He wasn't flinging the ball in a panic like Zach Wilson anymore. If Maye is at that point, no amount of sitting on the bench will do him any good. Stroud didn't need it.

Before the draft as a huge patriots fan, I was saying I really hope we get Drake. Or Jaden. I believe both of them will be much better than Caleb. I was hoping Drake only because I think Jaden will be plagued by injuries. He got taken out of college games for getting hit hard. He’s very skinny. Potential to be phenomenal though. Seeing Drake make a few of those throws last night was amazing. Joel klatt had him at 2 for a reason. He’s only 21 and he can make throws that some veteran QBs can’t. Oh yeah, and he can run. Lol. When he’s 24, he won’t even be in his prime. He’s very accurate and he can run. That’s a nightmare for defenses. Patriots have something very special with him. Three years from now I think they will be making a run in the playoffs.

The question is not who is a better QB, the question is how good is the OL.
IMHO, until the Pats can field a decent OL, Maye shouldn't see the field.
Yeah, that's making Jacobi the sacrificial lamb , but the simple fact of the matter is that the NFL has countless examples of highly drafted QB's crashing and burning because their OL sucked and they got hammered too many times. Which meant they started feeling pressure when it wasn't there.
This in part, was what happened to Mac Jones. Yeah, the coaching after McDaniels left was bad, but that doesn't explain why he had the same problems under Bill O'Brian. The hits made the difference.

I could not care less about this team and their QB situation but here are my $0.02.
It's ok to play your rookie QB as long as the fans and ownership understand the situation. If it's about him getting reps, real game experience, against NFL players, that's fine.
The problem is that it rarely goes that way. The media and fans would criticize him for every mistake he makes.
There is no real answer to the sit him or play him question. Jordan Love sat for way too long, Stroud was great as a rookie, Mahomes got one year to learn the ropes from Alex Smith before taking over, Purdy took over mid season because of injuries and never looked back. To me, that looks like there was no real benefit in sitting these players and they just delayed the inevitable (which could be a bust or a franchise QB)

Jones was kind of a Brady clone without the Brady mind. Maye is at least a QB that suits the current NFL. He's got the talent. Now we find out of he's got the mind too. he needs a coach like Reid, who walks up to Mahomes after throwing an INT, in the Superbowl, and just says, "keep firing." Maybe Jarod is that guy. Bill definitely wasn't that guy. When you see QBs regress as much as Jones did, that's on the coach not the player, in my opinion. That's a coach giving him some rope in the first year, but pulling it back in the 2nd year. I mean, you rarely see a qb have a great rookie season and then turn into a 3rd string QB. They may regress because the league has more film to study, but not as much as Jones regressed.

Could sitting behind Jacoby male him a better pocket passer? Maybe. Will it make him a better 2024 QB? Probably not. Today QBs need to be great passers, but mobile.
