No idea why you don't have more views. I needed assistance and a simple, "How do I make a dovetail recess for my lathe?" instructional. You'd be amazed how hard it was to find one. Hopefully you appreciate how much *I* appreciate you being straightforward and simple in your answer to that question, and _then_ moving on to other more advanced options. I really appreciate you making this video. Thank you!
Can you please explain in more detail how you set up your calipers to measure the exact size of the tenon needed for various jaws? You kind of loosely held up the calipers to the chuck jaws but didn't show what you were measuring? do you measure the bottom of the dovetail or the top edge?? When clamping down on the tenon the bottom of the dove tail is smaller than the top portion?
Thanks you for watching and the excellent questions. The calipers (dividers , really) are set to the distance of the outside of the top of the jaw face. The chuck is opened slightly before this measurement is taken.. The shape of the dovetail should closely match the dovetail shape of the chuck jaws.
Tom great vid. What is the white marker you got there? I like it. Do they come in different colors? If you have a link can you reply with it please? Thank you...Michael
The very last clip laying the chuck part on the dove tail was best visual explanation!!

Thank you so much, I have had a few bowls fly off the lathe because I didn’t cut them dovetail correct.
