As a disabled guy, I never thought I’d be able to see a waterfall in person again. Thanks for showing one that is accessible, if I ever get out to West Virginia
I'm disabled too and living where I do (Cornwall UK), it has so many stunning places but for people like me most of them are inaccessible, so it's great to see somewhere like this that has made sure people like us don't miss out. xx
Seneca Rocks is impossible unless you're ambulatory. I can't walk far, but I bought a seat-cane and took my time - folding it out and resting when I needed to. Was worth the extra time and effort I spent just to see the view up there! If you get to Spruce Knob, though - the parking-lot is a very short distance to the observation tower, though! The road climbing to the lot takes you almost to the top. The view is nice looking off to Kentucky, but the side of the tower facing Virginia is obscured by the Spruce growing so huge on that side. There are hiking trails there - but getting to the tower is really short and easy!
I haven't been to the Falls in years. They have really done a lot of work on the trail. I am so old that I remember when my Dad and I could hike to the top of the falls. Beautiful place
So the Allegheny Trail runs through Blackwater Falls State Park. This is a West Virginia trail that runs from Giles County, Virginia up to the Pennsylvania border - 287 miles. A very cool long trail that runs through the diverse terrain of the Wild and Wonderful!
Yes, It does. Yellow blazed, blue blazed and silver blazed and called the River trail, Davis trail and Allegheny Trail. I think in the Mon National Forest it is TR701. The Canaan Backcountry is one of my favorite spots.
Wow, they put a lot of work into the walkway and viewpoints. I'll bet it is even more beautiful on a bright sunny day. Is the yellowish tint Tannic acid? Thank you as always for sharing your adventures.
What an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful waterfall, a very well maintained park and with disabled access to the falls too is a big plus. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖
As many years as I have lived in this state, I never made it to those falls. Did go to Hills Creek, many years before they put the boardwalk in. Pocahontas County. Thanks for the video.
What a stunning waterfall that was. Such a beautiful area made easy to walk to. Love this video. Thanks for taking me along, please stay safe and take care
Hey there Woodsman, I was born and raised in West Virginia. So I have been visiting Blackwater Falls off and on for my entire life. The best visit was once while I was there , the DNR flew in above the pool of the falls in their helicopter and tossed trout into the river. The DNR is the Department of Natural Resources.. Watching them stock fish like this was special.. It was wild..For several years I lived near Parsons WV. A bit remote but overall a fun time. Lots of scenic beauty and wild game. Loads of white tail deer. With an occasional black bear tossed in. I never saw many wild turkeys around here. But other than that game galore.... This area is a playground now, cross country skiing and some good down hill skiing. And some inner tube sledding at Blackwater... A few good places to dine.. Very low crime - rate.... If you ALL are ever near here visit....
Thank you for doing these hiking videos Cliff. I use to love hiking. I now have osteoarthritis in my knee, which makes it impossible to hike anymore. I hike through your eyes.
Welcome to my chosen home state. I love this place. Visited Blackwater Falls a number of years ago. Those walkways are new. I'll have to make another visit, looks wonderful. That one single stream on the right side of the falls is just gorgeous! Thanks for taking us along...
Went there yesterday for my birthday, very beautiful park. We also went down a little further and saw Falls of Elakala just off the Blackwater Lodge & Conference Center.
Oh yes just WOW! Thank you, Cliff, for all that you do, I wish that I could help out more, I just love your channel, Cliff you take me to beautiful amazing places that I will never get to visit so thank you so very much!
People do not know how beautiful West Virginia is. I am not a native, but I highly respect it and suggest one checks it out. I went camping 🏕 in wv all the time.
Very cool! My grandmother grew up in Depression-era Davis and she and her friends would (apparently) jump off the falls and use this as their 'swimming hole' during the summer. Probably not the safest thing to do.....
Wow! Beautiful! But what a climb back up! My daughter got her Chemistry degree in 2014 from W.V. Wesleyan College, in Buckhannon, W.V. , not far from there.
My grandparents lived in nearby Preston County and we visited them each summer and for Thanksgiving. Blackwater Falls was a favorite destination for picnics. No well designed trails (1945-1958) or guardrails. In fact, Dad was carrying me (maybe a year old) and slipped on wet leaves near the edge of an outcropping. I have to believe an angel stopped us from going over. Just thinking about it makes me tremble.
This might be a place to check out with the hubs and the kids. I've been curious about Blackwater Falls ever since I saw a decorative plate from there in the Goodwill that I worked at in 2012-2013.
I just went for the 1st time last Fall and the views are breathtaking. The water wasn't running nearly as hard. Will have to venture out in the Spring sometime.
You're right, it's amazing. It was like being there, the way you filmed it. Only one sad point. You didn't take us inside the trading post. 😭 I was looking forward to that. Well, thank you for the beautiful video. See you at Seneca Rock! 🙂
Really been enjoying your channel visiting places I'd never be able to get to right now but giving me good ideas for future! I recommend your channel to ppl all the time. Keep adventuring and stay cool
The falls are even better in winter after a fresh snowfall! (Although accessing is more difficult - you'll need good tires just to make it to the park and microspikes for the walk down.)
We took our honeymoon trip to that area of WV last year in June. Looking forward to your Seneca rocks video and I'd imagine the high point of WV video!
going there next week, did you drive to the second observation deck? I am camping on night in Babcock state park then camping 2 nights in Seneca Shadows campground at Seneca Rocks. I am so excited for this. Escaping Florida beaches for West Virginia Mountains.
Thanks for the coverage of the "Canaan Valley". I'm in Ohio but I've traveled to Blackwater Falls and other places around there (Seneca Rocks, Canaan Valley Resort, the NRAO radio telescope array, etc) several times since the 90s. The region is a peaceful alternative to the crush of people who visit places like the Smokies. The trails down to the falls looked very quiet in this video, I assume because of rain? Usually we had to deal with many more people when we visited. Good stuff.
Taking the time to drive all the way out to Black Water Falls and not walking the short short trail to the amazing overlook at Lindy Point is hiking negligence, lol. There was alot left on the table on this one.
I'm planning a trip with my wife and two daughters, 10, 8. We planned to go to Seneca rock and hike that trail as well as the blackwater falls. Are both of these well within the ability of a 10 and 8 year old to hike? We would do them on different days.
When I attended high school in PA over 40 years ago, it was the custom for the senior year Advanced Biology students to go on a field trip in May to these falls. That all stopped when three students were exploring above the falls. The girl dropped her camera and ventured onto a rock right beside the river to retrieve it. She slipped; fell into the river; was swept over the falls and was killed. Her body was not immediately found and the field trip ended on a somber and tragic note. I have never been back and every time I see these falls, I am reminded of the promising young woman who perished way too young.
You might want to make a habit of mentioning sites that you visit that have wheelchair accessible trails. There are a lot of people who view your site that aren't able to visit locations that you go to.

Born and raised there man . Love the Black waterfalls. They are absolutely beautiful
Excellent video Wandering Woodsman!! My wife and I visited this beautiful place in 2007
That trail is one of my favorite places on earth. I live so far away now. This video helped with homesickness. Thank you :)
Just beautiful! Well kept trail, thanks for sharing this hike!
Beautiful location and of course waterfalls.

Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. . .Country roads, take me home. . .

been to Blackwater dozens of times, practically grew up there.
Your right totally cool I amazed just by the stairs they built
As many years as I have lived in this state, I never made it to those falls. Did go to Hills Creek, many years before they put the boardwalk in. Pocahontas County. Thanks for the video.
We were at the upper observation deck, it is wheelchair accessible. Summer of 2019. Beautiful place
Love this place. I grew up in the area and still visit every couple of years. Great place for family reunions. Nice cabins.
My wife and I visited Bushkill in 2010 and Blackwater Falls in 2007. Both are so beautiful. I have t-shirts from both that I still wear!!
What a stunning waterfall that was. Such a beautiful area made easy to walk to. Love this video. Thanks for taking me along, please stay safe and take care
I’ve been there. Right by the town of Davis.
Thanks so much for visiting and sharing beautiful places in my State!! 🇺🇸❤️💙🇺🇸
Absolutely Beautiful!!!! You should make a book of just your pictures of the waterfalls you have went to! That would be GREAT!

Wow! That was awesome. They really did a great job of making this accessible to people while keeping people within boundaries of the trail.

Wild and Wonderful West Virginia! Beautiful waterfall!
Thanks so much woodsman absolutely beautiful!!!❤️
You were really hauling the day you saw all these sites! I've been here several times, so pretty. Thanks!

Your videos have been really helpful to me and my family since moving to the central PA area from the Midwest last January. Good stuff.

Cool!! My Grandma grew up in Grafton in the 1920's. My Dad went swimming at Tygart Lake in the summers when visiting family back in the 1950's.
Before the walkways were put in my dad took me into the narrow cave behind the falls. I don't think it's there anymore.
Absolutely beautiful...nice you can get so close ..
That is definitely a gorgeous waterfall. Really enjoyed going with you.
Breathtaking views!
One of my favorite day trips from Pittsburgh
That place looks awesome
Awesome falls✨Really enjoy your videos🌟

If you ever get to Michigan, this waterfall is very, very similar to Tahquamenon falls in the Upper Peninsula.
The falls are even better in winter after a fresh snowfall! (Although accessing is more difficult - you'll need good tires just to make it to the park and microspikes for the walk down.)
I have been there with my grandparents once or twice a few years ago!

It's one of our favorite WV state parks.
This place is amazing
We used to get down to the rocks at the base of the falls.
Beautiful place
Wow yes spectacular

"Dayhikedave" is the other channel from PA. Cliff mentions in the video. Cool place, thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Been there, loved it.
Beautiful
WV is truly magical and people just don't know. Montana is another state like that
Spectacular 💦 fall
Can you add gps coordinates or Google pins for the parking lots?
where you turn in to the first entrance for the waterfalls, if you go straight it will take you to some pretty nice rock overlooks.
THOSE FALLS ARE NICE
I could go there again and Snd again
Taking the time to drive all the way out to Black Water Falls and not walking the short short trail to the amazing overlook at Lindy Point is hiking negligence, lol. There was alot left on the table on this one.
Had quite a few places to visit, you can only do so much in one day..
@@thewanderingwoodsman7227 I hear ya buddy. There's always next time, the lookout from the point there is worth its own video. Keep up the great work!

Majestic!!!!!!!
Where is everybody? Such a beautiful place all to yourself.
awsome!
Used to fish the canyon below the falls. They would stock it by helicopter.
We are heading there July 23rd
1st. Hi Cliff
After you're done with Spruce Knob, are you gonna get to New River Gorge, too?
not on this trip.

God's Creation... Stunning!
Davis West Virginia is epic. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Billy Motel and Bar. Say "hi" to Joy who owns the place.
bushkill falls !!!

Really good suggestion!! 👌👌
Too bad you can’t walk on the rocks or dip your feet by the waterfall or go swimming. 🤷♀️
