Sounds like a logical way to plan for the present and the future simultaneously. With churches that have rotating rosters of musicians, this can get a bit complicated. I’ve dealt with independent teams with very different approaches. Quite frustrating when the results are uneven.

Yes… it can be very difficult with rotating teams. When I had rotating teams I would often have the first half of rehearsal together learning and touching up on current material. Then I would split and let the team that’s singing that Sunday work on their setlist and take the other team to another space to work on their setlist for the following week. But I am an advocate for all teams learning the same songs so that we can be interchangeable at any time.

Hi Michael! This is a very structured rehearsal schedule. How many do you have on your team? Does the # matter? This gives me thought. Our rehearsals are weekly following a bible study and prayer meeting some of team have long drives, others are up at 4 am next morning, so I shamefully admit our rehearsals may be rushed through! I wonder if a structure such as yours would encourage and deepen commitment, and will be praying about if we should switch to a separate night. Thanks for this insight.

Hey yes… so to answer a few of your questions. I have a team of 10 people & it doesn’t matter how many people you have what matters is how effective they are at learning and retaining the music.
I totally understand the struggles of rehearsing right after Bible class, my church has done that for years. If possible I would tell you to consider meeting on a different day if your team is available and willing to do so. This will give you guys more time to grow together. But if that is not possible you can still use my structure just change the time frame of each section. Example: For new songs instead of spending 30 minutes, try spending 15 minutes. You’ll still have structure just less time to dive in deep.
I would say to spend the most time doing what you believe is important to the team. Whether that’s service song run throughs or spending time in team building activities.
      Hope this helps God bless!
