  • Once the project was completed in 1995, the total cost for the Metro Subway was $1.392 billion.
    The current system is 15.4 mi (24.8 km) long, including 6.2 mi (10 km) underground, 2.2 mi (3.5 km) elevated, and 7.0 mi (11.3 km) at grade level (with roadways separated). Eight of its 14 stations are underground, at depths of 52 ft (16 m) to 112 ft (34 m) below street level. Its elevated stations stand from 25 ft (7.6 m) to 28 ft (8.5 m) above ground.
    When the system started operation, it became the largest single user of Susan B. Anthony dollar coins.
    On February 11, 2018, the MTA announced a month-long closure of the entire subway system to complete emergency track repairs identified during a safety inspection. An aboveground portion of the system had already been shut down due to emergency inspections and repairs. The system reopened on March 9 ~Wikipedia

    this line's rolling stock and its stations are the weirdest cross between LA's subway and the DC Metro, It's really, really cool. I wish this system could get a good expansion and its full potential could be realized. Baltimore is an underrated city that deserves the world-class transit the cities surrounding it have

      Clean? Debatable. There's not as much trash as a system like Philly, but you definitely feel the age of the trains and station. Modern? Lmao no, it's very clearly an 80s system.

      I was in Baltimore for the first time earlier this month. Wasn’t a huge fan of their light rail system, but I loved riding the SubwayLink.

    I like the square metro trains. Im not a fan of them looking more and more like wide streecars. Great videp!

    A decent-ish subway line that unfortunately covers very little of the region. I know there were extension plans to take it through northeast Baltimore and out to White Marsh but they were scrapped. The present line is basically useless you happen to live near it - which most people don’t 😢

      Absolute godsend for me going downtown after school though, lol. Just take the pink and then connect to it easy

    The subways cars are similar to the Los Angeles Red and Purple lines (they're currently being replaced). From this video, it looks like a refurbishment and expansion is long overdue.

      These are the Budd trains which were also used by the Metrorail in Miami, but Metrorail’s Budd trains were retired from service in 2021.

      Expansion is decades long overdue, and as things currently stand today I’ve lost hope that this is going to get any meaningful change. That said, I’ll be more than happy to eat my own words if Baltimore develops a metrorail that rivals DC’s in the future.

    These cars sound the same as the WMATA 3000/4000 series cars unrehabbed. Plus, both the WMATA Breda and BUDD cars had Chopper Controlled traction system.

    I'd love to see an expansion of the subway system but Baltimore has pretty much taken up all available space. There is no area I can think of anywhere where you can get the trains above ground or even make a parking lot for subway stations. Like going through into Towson and Cockeysville has practically zero space at all. All of it is taken up by houses and businesses.

    • @York22
      @York22 11 месяцев назад +1

      They could expand it within the city

    • @CrabMan2539
      @CrabMan2539 11 месяцев назад

      @@York22 That would be a good first step but if possible, it really should be expanded outside the city as well so people can get from outside the city to inside the city and vice versa.

      there is no need to make a parking lot for an inner city subway station. Those riders aren’t going to have cars with them to begin with

      @@evy2031 Oh nah I wasn't referring to downtown area, I was referring to the areas outside the city. Basically I was saying that areas even outside the city don't really have space for parking lots.

    The Miami Metrorail used to have those Budd UTV rail cars. They were replaced by the newer Hitachi Rail USA rail cars.
