Scarlet is long for a reason. It’s a road trip album of a character on a journey to discover what America had become at a very specific time in history. It has some of the nicest harmonies in her catalog and some very intricate piano playing layered under the production in spots, like on Carbon. She’s also said that if there’s one album in her catalog that she’d like to be remembered by, it’s Scarlet. ruclips.net/video/dHk3TiauOmY/видео.html
Love this album obviously, but also your Final Beats project ! Very impressed by it. I looove the lo-fi vibes and production on it. Hope to hear more from you musically in the near future !
To Venus and Back started as a b-sides album + a live album that Tori was doing to get out of her contract with Atlantic records. She was planning on putting a new song or two on the b-sides part of it, but ended up writing a full album worth of new songs during the studio sessions. So it came together very quickly, which is probably why it’s so diverse in sound. Bonus fact - a lot of people have connected Spring Haze to John F Kennedy Jr’s death in a small single-engine airplane in the summer of 1999 (he, his wife and his sister-in-law were flying to the Kennedy family’s estate on Martha’s Vineyard when JFK Jr lost control over the airplane and they crashed in the Atlantic Ocean), but the song was written and recorded well before the accident. JFK Jr and his passengers died on July 16 and the album was released on September 21. The similarity between the song lyrics and the event were completely accidental.
Wow, I'm one of those people who thought Spring Haze was about JFK Jr., but I see your point. That's crazy coincidental, especially the waiting for Sunday to land/drown, that's exactly what happened that we were all waiting to find out that weekend, Sunday morning it changed from a rescue to a recovery, and why does it always end up like this? I didn't remember it happened so close to the release of the album, honestly, and I'm sure it was just something still in our collective consciousness.
Great reaction. Yes, a much more chill listening experience of Tori's. 1000 Oceans is an amazingly beautiful song, as is Josephine - may not be in the mood for them all the time, but when you are in that mood, they are perfect to get lost in. Bliss and Concertina are both top tracks as well
Everyone on here will say oh do Scarlet's Walk, and maybe you should sometime (Its too long tho omg and the production is very same same on most of the songs). But everyone skips Strange Little Girls which to me is a far more interesting concept. She does an EMINEM cover for F's sake :D. Riot Poof is a translation of a Dutch phrase "rel nicht" which describes a very gay guy. Fair reaction btw! Though I like Glory of the 80s. PS a bayou is a marsh/swamp
the next album, scarlet’s wall - is definitely my favorite tori record… just way too good… unfortunately everything after just feels lost and boring but her latest (ocean to ocean) is tori back to her greatness roots! she also admits that she needed to re discover her muses post scarlet’s walk and what not i’m not being hateful 🙏🏽 also you might be interested in checking out Julia Holter and Joanna Newsom!
thank you so much for covering tori... she's one of the best art pop singers to date. would reccomend you checking out also: - pj harvey- stories from the city - portishead- dummy - fka twigs- magdalene lana del rey- norman f****** rockwell :)
You going to listen to Strange Little Girls? It’s a cover album, and pretty interesting. I say this all the time but, Scarlet’s Walk (IMO) is the last genius album from Tori. After that it gets pretty hit or miss for me…mostly miss 😳. Also you mentioned something about watching her live performances, which is where she really comes alive. To Venus and back has a second “disc” that has all the live stuff. It’s pretty great!
@@sakinaalia1067 Ocean to Ocean is a better album imo than Scarlet, Scarlet is soooooo long, though there are standouts, they kinda get buried. Ocean is great mostly because its shorter lol
There are some good albums after Scarlet's Walk. The Beekeeper, Night Of Hunters and Ocean To Ocean all have mostly amazing tracks. The other albums though...
@@NathanHautain I never understood why the beekeeper got so much flack. I think it was hurt because it came right after scarlet’s walk but you're right it's great. Night of hunters is actually in my top 5 tori records because it helped me through a tough time.

I recommend the part two ( cd2 ) of this album which are live performances that are stellar.
Bliss, Concertina, Spring Haze, a thousand oceans. My favs. TY for reacting to the amazing Tori Amos. Love HER!
That smile on the side of your mouth kills me.
I was waiting for this one, I'm pleased now
your smirk reading tori's lyrics in silence . . . you get it ^^
For Datura she got a list of all the flowers in her garden from her gardener and then sang them in the verses
She is calling nature to war. It is brilliant. “I guess she just likes flowers.” 🙄

You really listen to a lot of artists that I enjoy, I really like your reactions, saludos desde Chile
Great reactions and reviews you do here. Love your videos.
Riot poof & Juarez will grow on you and possibly become some of your favorites
Choirgirl hits me the hardest, but Venus is my favorite. ❤
Nice reaction :) not a big fan of the album, but really enjoyed watching the review!
Lust is one of her greatest songs ever IMO

...kind of like 'i can't see new york' and 9/11. our girl is prescient!
I thought it was about a young girl pilot who died while flying (true story, I just can't remember details).

You need to hear the later released track "Zero Point" from this album. Stunning.

I want this man so bad ❤
you should listen to "from the choirgirl hotel". It is pretty strong album. Trip-hop like style
Already listened to it on my channel, I reacted to it before this vid :)

If it gets requested… yes :)
Her next proper album Scarlet’s Walk is, in my opinion, the last truly great album she released and is sprawling and beautiful.
I think ocean to ocean is a return to form actually. I like it as much as her prime run.

A thousand oceans is about a miscarriage.
