I like how 99% of the time, Jack can beat his enemies pretty easily, but 1% of the time some kind of god-tier ultra powerful enemy just wipes him out, out of no where
I noticed that only deities or ppl that are practically god tier are the only ones who can hang with and take down Jack, the blue guardian dude is a prime example

It seems that only diety-based enemies a a match for jack , since it seems that even his godly sword isn't enough to compete he has to find unworthy help for these cases
Love how this isn’t drawn out like most episodes. The Minions of Set just jump in and start beating the absolute shit out of Jack.
They hold the record i think for the quickest beatdown Jack ever had. Jack wasn't holding his own he was barely holding on for dear life in this fight.
They were beating him from a surprise attack but if the sword could actually defeat them they would have lost
@@c.galindo9639 That's what's so impressive for their part for 3 reasons.
1- The sword couldn't kill them and they regenerated perfectly from its cuts. The sword was forged by 3 deities to kill the incarnation of pure evil but couldn't kill the 3 minions.
2- They had Jack on the ropes holding desperately for dear life in this fight, and they hold the record for quickest Jack beatdown.
3- They managed to catch Jack completely by surprise. Think about all the ambushes he thwarted and traps he got through. Yet they caught him completely by surprise and were seconds from killing him seconds AFTER their first attacks.
Think about ALL the implications this fight entails.
@@Kamina.D.Fierce They also hold the record of the deadiest foes Jack has ever faced in the series. Even surpassing The Ultra Robots and The Guardian.
The Ultra Robots we're most certainly able to give Jack a fight for his life mostly due to their familarity with Jack's fighting style and because of their armor plating which was able to shrug off Jack's sword with ease. However Jack was far from finished when he soon discovered that in order to succeed he needed help from a power gauntlet in order to enhance his strength to cut through the bots nigh indestructible alloy called Adamantium (which isn't the same Adamantium that Wolverine and Ultron are made since in order to destroy true Adamantium you need to be Superman level strength and Jack even with the power arm doesn't come close to that level of strength)
During his fight with The Guardian Jack was able to hang with the huge hulking Juggernaut for a good period of time before getting brutally beaten down and nearly killed in the process.
Had there been a fight between these 3 titans of death the victor would no doubt go to The Minions Of Set. The Minions would mostly likely be able to cut through The Ultra Robots thick, dense armor since they can cut down pillars the size of buildings at (0:55) and are probably even around the same level of strength as The Guardian who can take down giant robots the size of skyscrapers.
Ergo both The Minions Of set and The Guardian would essentially tear The Ultra Robots apart like wrapping paper.
As for The Guardian his fight with The Minions would be an interesting one. While his strength, endurance and vast arsenal of weaponry would work quite well against The 3 savage beasts his age coupled with The Minions superior speed, sheer ferocity and immortality would only prolong the inevitable.
I think the guardian was a top tier battle
I love how jack just walks up, recognized the monument and went "Oh Shit THEYRE LOOSE"
The look on his face helps sells the moment.
Followed by a sucker punch
The Minions: “Bell’s already rang, fool. It’s time for the beatdown.”

I like how the minions of Set aren't exactly evil. They're aspects of death and the underworld, so even Jack's magic sword can't slay them since they're not evil and actually a part of the natural order.
True! Set himself is always represented as an agent of change, which is a natural force, according to folklore.
But Jack does say in the ep "if the evil is set free"

Jacks blade is designed to specifically destroy demonic evil forces it has little to no effect on enemies that have Divine power (save for the gauntlets of Cronos but even then they didn’t have the power of the Titan anymore )

I find this whole thing hilarious. Jack is allowed only one second of shock before the Minions start beating the absolute shit out of him. No warning. No build up. They just start wailing on him. He's hit over two dozen times before he gets a chance to fight back. XD

I love how Set's Minions don't have that "Code of Honor" Bullshit, most Powerful Opponents of Jack show honor and display respect towards his skill as a Warrior and fight him as such, the Minions of Set however just fucking Jump him out of the Shadows, Zero respect, Zero Honor, Zero Shits. They don't show any remorse on Jack and it is brutal.

The Minions of Set are, as their name implies, creations of the Egyptian God Set. He was the God of Chaos and Violence.
That’s why Jack had to call upon Ra to defeat them. For it was his power that imprisoned them in the first place until Aku freed them to destroy Jack.

Jack can leap more than four times his height in the air. His stamina can last him about a whole day (bridge fight with the Scotsman). He has defeated enemies that outnumber him, use guns, cut into his flesh, and possess the skill to end his life instantly. Jack has survived excursions to the bottom of the sea and all the way up into space, including a crash landing from re-entry! He wields a katana that was forged not from the finest steel, but from the strength of his father's spirit, formed with the incalculable might of three different dieties for the specific purpose of eradicating evil itself. Every enemy Jack faces is defeated in one way or another once he finds a way to inflict some damage with his divine blade, even when pitted against the living shard of primordial evil that existed since the dawn of all creation, Aku.
And these three put ALL of those achievements to shame.
Makes sense since they are essentially parts of the god set and represent death which isn't evil thus the sword did nothing

It's probably because The Minions of Set are also associated with a God, just like Jack's sword.
Maybe That's why it could not hurt the minions.
The Guardian could honestly probably solo them all. He was the one true opponent Jack never got passed. Ever. At least if we're talking about the animation universe for Samurai Jack and not the comic book ending one
The Minions of Set are among Jack’s toughest enemies, as like the Amakandi hunters and the Greaser Bots, Jack couldn’t beat them, but unlike those two, they didn’t use tricks or means to give Jack a disadvantage, no, they just brutally beat Jack down through sheer force and gave him no chance of even being able to fight back.
You also forgot about The Guardian. He was the only one who could beat jack 1 on 1. The Minions do have a gimmick in that Jack can't hurt them AT ALL.

Jack was also technically defeated by the three female singers/hydra in the unknown island. If it weren't for Scotsman he would've been serving drinks on a ship for the rest of his life.

The only one to beat Jack fair were the bandit couple when Jack went to that Western town.
Each if the ones listed had an advantage over Jack or used a way to subdue him. He could win them on even grounds with skill alone
These were part of a veeeeeeeery small list of enemies Jack couldn't defeat. Even the sword couldn't permanently harm them... Really think about that. He had to summon a deity to put them down FOR him.

Though it's possible that the upgraded version of Jack's Sword from Season 5 may have been able to harm them.

You know they’re TOO STRONG when they’re not even a boss in the video game.
This is honestly one of the best fight scenes in all of Samurai Jack. It communicates how utterly brutal, relentless and life or death it is via the clever use of camera work. From the close up of jack eye after we get a grizzly detail of a set minion snarling. To the sudden, just out of nowhere beat down so the attack is just as much as a surprise to us as it is to jack.
Love this. Episode. The set minion honestly came off as actually scary. I can't imagine trying to escape these things. Jack dosen't even escape them of his own accord...he only got away because a set minion just up knocked his ass across the place like a golf ball. He was trying to run away before that and he couldn't get any decent distance.
I like that you pointed out the detail with the minion growling and then Jack’s eye. It really did make me feel the confusion and panic he was feeling mixed with the terror of these monsters
Jack still survived using skill/cleverness and thinks quick on his feet long enough to summon ra. He even cut through one of the minions if it wasn't for their immortality regeneration. Any other human mortal would've gotten blitzed and killed within seconds. It just shows how skilled and powerful of a warrior Jack is and the caliber/level you have to be to take down Jack.
The minions of Set really went "let him get up, let him get up, let him get up"

I'm tired of hearing about the ultra bots wank, Jack could've defeated them if it wasn't for their adamantium coating. Even without the robo arm jack landed solid hits on them proving that he was skilled enough to cut them down.

This was in fact one of the few episodes that scared me back then, maybe because egyptian culture is a bit rough with all their sacrifices but besides this it was a nice ep, with twists and turns and I liked it especially for the smooth graphics and cinematic effects ^_^

Just a small detail that crossed my mind, at 0:43 Jack appears to be in the bind against that attack and holding the sharp edge of the blade with the flat of his hand. You could say "thats so the viewers can easily see that jack is blocking with the blade, and animation at the time rarely shows you key props from the narrow angle." HOWEVER, the fact this actually works as shown makes sense because when Aku tried to kill Jack with the blade himself, and he finds out the blade cannot harm to an innocent.

Samurai Jack has always had unique and outstanding atmosphere and themes but damn. The way all the minions waste no time in *beating the shit* out of Jack is great.

God these things are so vicious, he doesn't get a single break the ENTIRE fight.
this is why Aku fears Jack so much, it's not just his holy katana that is dangerous, Jack himself is an absolute threat, knowledge wise, strength wise, endurance wise, and skill wise

I wonder if anyone else noticed that *LITERALLY* the only reason Jack didn't ultimately die in a battle of length here is because the Minions of Set all have Fire Coated Weapons.
When they struck and cut him, the injuries cauterized upon the strike, not unlike a Lightsaber cut or a Blaster Bolt.
And likely the fire was hot enough to make this mesh as it's a Divine Power. Jack had some serious pain tolerance.
Even a single one could kick his ass, Jack has to fight three of them at once.
Did anyone else notice the culture accurate weapons the Minions of Set had? The axe the second uses is particularly interesting, as that is a battle axe from the Middle Kingdom Period of Egypt!

So what was Aku's plan here after they killed Jack? These things took one of the gods that wrecked his orginal much more powerful primordial form to stop I doubt Aku himself could put them down or control them.
Well there are a few different interpretations of the egyptian god Set in history. It seems Samurai Jack canon depicts the "malevolent god of chaos/war/destruction/oppression/etc." description of Set. So maybe since Set and his minions are evil, Aku (being the embodiment of evil itself) thought that he could make allies or even subordinates out of the minions and their deity through their common views and goals.
I'm not sure if they'd attack Aku after they dealt with Jack, considering that they had a fine opportunity to do so after slaughtering his robot entourage. Maybe the Minions recognize him as the one who freed them and thus decide not to attack him...the rest of the universe is probably fair game, though, and I doubt Aku cares much about how much they destroy as long as it spreads fear and suffering.

One of THE best episodes of this Cartoon Network masterpiece! I've lost count of the number of times I've watched it. One of the rare-and exhilarating-instances in which our hero was almost hopelessly outmatched in battle!
The reason these beast were so strong is because the Egyptian pantheon was one of the pantheons that MADE the sword.
The Minions managed to get more hits in in 10 seconds than most enemies get in entire episodes.
Good thing Jack trained in Egypt, or he would not have known how to defeat the minions of Set.

The weaker enemies will come out swinging and reckless with no code of honor, marking them an easy target.
The stronger enemies are secluded, sometimes ambush people, and usually abide by fighting discipline, such as only fighting when your enemy is able to fight back.
Then you have GOD like enemies who can be as reckless as they want, because they *literally can’t die*
