I remember doing this when it just started - they did it only from Holyhead to Cardiff back then. It was a very controversial train as it was so heavily subsidised, and just for the Welsh Assembly members from the North to make sittings in Cardiff! I'm always amazed to remember it's still going, and the Manchester route is a big bonus.
OMG! I can't believe you watched one of my videos! You were a bit influence to me and why I started making videos in the first place. I'm so happy right now! Thanks for stopping by, and that's so interesting about why this service started in the first place.
Great video. I only found you a few months ago and now I'm binge watching you to catch up on everything. I got a TFW journey booked for the new year from MAN to CDF, and decided to treat myself to First Class, as it's only a fiver more than standard. Hopefully the kitchen will be open for my early morning train, as the breakfast looked amazing. If not, as long as there's tea or coffee, I'll be happy. The only problem with that TFW route, any rain and the line seems to flood. But it's still better to take that risk, than having to travel with Cross Country and having to change in Birmingham New Street. Thanks again for your videos, keep travelling and stay safe 🏴
Hi there Im one of the hosts that work on that service (just got off a shift an hour from writing this!) So happy you seemed to enjoy the trip! And the experience We have just launched a brand new menu as this is a service we are working hard on developing So if you join us again we hopefully give you a completely fresh experience ❤
Great video. Always enjoy yours. I've travelled on a few of these - especially on 1st Class All Line Railrovers; as they run on my local line (LUD). The staff are amazing, and one young lady I've known since my first days of travelling on them even before moving up here, and she's still working on them, one amazing person though as I say; they all are and all do a great job very well.
Ah, yes. I love taking a trip on these brilliant sets. When they're working, they're brilliant. Catering staff are normally brilliant and very friendly. As GLoveTrains has said, the two different type of sets are indeed Ex-Grand Central and Ex-LNER! I still need to try have a full meal onboard, also that breakfast! Glad you had a good journey, brilliant video. I'd say the best in the UK, potentially a biased opinion though! 😂
Great video Jessica recently travelled from Llandudno to Cardiff on the 05:30 in standard class has to be the best train i have ever travelled on the return journey was the total opposite on a class 197 in cattle class it was rammed a total joke a real numb bum job 😞
Great video, travelled on this last week between Crewe & Manchester just in standard which was really good definitely looks like a brilliant service long haul in the front 😊
TSG 1st time I've watched One of your Vlogs.....(I think it showed up as I am a subscriber to GLT who I see commented).....Had a laugh at the Butter in the soup!!....Subscribed and look forward to catching-up on past uploads. Thanks for making my free-time full of interesting choices of travel...appreciated.
You were on the old LNER DVT Sets that used to operate along the East Coast, The one you got to Cardiff was the refurb Grand Central did for their services between London Euston and Blackpool which later got completely scrapped
Thanks for this, im on this in a few weeks, only Manchester to Shrewsbury and back though. Hoping to squeeze in the full welsh breakfast on the outbound! Think i can just manage it, time wise
That food looks really nice - is there any stanmdard class catering at all? Also - the "walk up" fares look pretty reasonable, and at 50%(ish) extra the first class is very appealing!
In theory, yes. But they're not very bright so I'm not sure how much extra light they provide. They might be more effective when it's dark outside though 🤷♀️
@@TravelSoGoodYou can be correct there. It can be to high up. The Swedish Rail SJ has a good first class solution. Two spots on lamp stand tucked between the seats head high. It works for me.
The LNER first class menu has three different versions, Dine, Dish, Deli. The Dine menu has a chef on board and offers an additional main and desert option over the Dish menu. It's only the peak trains that offer the Dine menu. That said even their Dine menu doesn't look as good as this, I'd like to try it out.
I’d love to see this on TfW from Manchester Victoria to Holyhead on SailRail direct services, as part of a wider root and branch overhaul of the current SailRail product offering, timed to meet ferry check-ins at Holyhead and ferry arrivals from Dublin
So nice to see those old LNER leather First seats still in use. When you see them you realise what a downgrade the Azuma First Class seats were. Food looked good as well. Nice.
Recently was travelling home to south Wales from man picc and the service was supposed to be one of these instead a 2 carriage unit arrived and was rammed full from Crewe to Cardiff a horrible experience with the one toilet on the unit blocked its a lottery if the loco hauled train turns up 🏴
I would usually agree, but then again, TfW's First Class tickets are fairly reasonably priced and the food they offer is incredible. I'd fear that if this became included in the ticket price, the food quality would suffer.
@@TravelSoGood Im a viewer from Montana, one of the longer amtrak routes ....the empire builder..... i think whole route is almost 72 hours depending on if you go to portland or seattle.. runs across the northern part of our state including glacier national park,,,,not to be missed....and they are in the process of adding a version of the former northern pacific rail route ....the north coast limited...which would be amazing

Good luck! The lines do seem to flood often so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
Hi there
Im one of the hosts that work on that service (just got off a shift an hour from writing this!)
So happy you seemed to enjoy the trip! And the experience
We have just launched a brand new menu as this is a service we are working hard on developing
So if you join us again we hopefully give you a completely fresh experience ❤
Thank you for your service! Maybe we'll bump into each other one day?
The meal looked amazing great to see Tfw offering
Great video
What an amazing video on one of my favourite services! Sad to see the series coming to an end, I really enjoyed watching these on a Monday evening 🥲
Great video. Always enjoy yours. I've travelled on a few of these - especially on 1st Class All Line Railrovers; as they run on my local line (LUD). I did the exact same journey last year - it is a heck of a trek. Kudos to you for doing it.

TfW for the win! Glad you enjoyed 😄 (oh the first seat was ex grand central and the second ex LNER)
I'm glad this comment didn't get blocked, unlike your last one, lol! 😜
😮😮😮

Those 197s aren't brilliant. They're on my local line, and they're fine for short journeys, but I'm not sure about their suitability for long trips.
Great video, travelled on this last week between Crewe & Manchester just in standard which was really good definitely looks like a brilliant service long haul in the front 😊
I should probably try standard too. It looks pretty good tbh
Omg all that food looked* amazing! Now I'm going to be thinking about it while having my cold ham sandwich for lunch 😢😢😢😢
Put a bit of English mustard on that sandwich and you'll enjoy it more :)

I'm not the most elegant eater, which is weird because I film myself eating a lot, lol!
I tend to use the morning Holyhead-Cardiff and quality in first is great. Not used the evening ones since ATW days but your vid makes me want to
You were on the old LNER DVT Sets that used to operate along the East Coast, The one you got to Cardiff was the refurb Grand Central did for their services between London Euston and Blackpool which later got completely scrapped
Good to know. If Grand Central had used this train in their service, maybe they'd have scored more than a 2! Lol
Amazing video as always…. Didn’t expect an outstanding first class from TFW!! But the Lamb with mash looked 😋
It was #SoGood !
Amazing video! Looks like a great experience 😊
It really is!
Thanks for this, im on this in a few weeks, only Manchester to Shrewsbury and back though. Hoping to squeeze in the full welsh breakfast on the outbound! Think i can just manage it, time wise
Have fun!
@@TravelSoGood Update: Loco hauled turned into a 2 car 197 😭😭
Just subbed to your channel after seeing GLovesTrains community post
That 3 course meal looked amazing, and £24 is a very good price
Welcome! G is awesome :)
What time is this train with the meals
Good video
Some sets are ex LNER (hence the darker coloured seats) and some are ex-grand central (hence the lighter coloured seats) x
I need to start going on trains.
Yup :) 👍
That food looks really nice - is there any stanmdard class catering at all?

Yes! They do food for standard class too. I've not tried it though so can't comment on the quality, but I hope it's nice.
Booked!!
Hi Jessica, first time herel subbed. Im looking to travel on tfw from Birmingham New St.
Thanks for subbing!
Being visually impaired I would have needed those reading lights.
Great video. Pity about the lack of other drinks and snacks.
Yeah... but by the sounds of things, I was just a little unlucky on this particular journey
Yep, I've tried a few items on the Dine menu, but I'd love to eat my way through the whole thing!
The 0530 ex Holyhead is great if you've just rolled in off the ferry.
I'm sure it's useful for that. Not quite so much for leisure travel, lol!
Super fun to see you with G loves the other day, wouldn’t that be legendary colab!!🫶
You never know!
G loves is an early riser though, so I don't know if that would work 😆
I’d love to see this on TfW from Manchester Victoria to Holyhead on SailRail direct services, as part of a wider root and branch overhaul of the current SailRail product offering, timed to meet ferry check-ins at Holyhead and ferry arrivals from Dublin

They're certainly better than their current seats! Such a shame

Ex LNER same seats as Virgin Trains East Coast . Sounds like better menu on this service.
It definitely is!
Dear Fran and Jessica I love your youtubu meal is nclude 1st class ticket?
Great video Jessica! TFW first class looks amazing! Also you should definitely collaborate with GlovesTrains one day in a video!
Maybe one day!
A bottle of wine would knock me out 😅.
🤣🤣🤣 I still can't believe I ordered that. I ended up taking half the bottle home with me :)
If you pay first class prices - it should be unlimited free food and drink all the way.
I would usually agree, but then again, TfW's First Class tickets are fairly reasonably priced and the food they offer is incredible. I'd fear that if this became included in the ticket price, the food quality would suffer.
I think previously there was an inclusive meal price subsidised by Welsh Assembly.
beats the hell out of amtrak food and gives vial rail a run for their money
I'd like to try Amtrak one day just for the experience

Very good video .
Wait a minute... Is your friend G Loves, BTW?
Edit: Not G Loves, G Loves vegan.
The one on the train with me? No - otherwise she'd have appeared on camera!
No
Yes 🤷♀️
