I believe several of the clips where Dan is discussing how it is illegal/unethical to modify cards is when he was discussing the professional cleaning services that ADD gloss and other products to the card. The example of the Charizard is where he REMOVED part of the card. As he stated, he swapped ink for whitening. As far as I see, there’s nothing unethical about that. There was ink on the card, he scratched it off. If someone chooses to pay more for the card now that there isn’t ink on it, I don’t see that as unethical. Not looking for drama, just an open discussion. I appreciate your perspective.
What is there to discuss? He openly admitted to altering the card to get a better grade, and he altered the card beyond “removing” part of it. Dan even chose to grade with CGC instead of PSA, because he was afraid of getting caught. Dan intentionally misrepresented the true condition of that card to get a better grade and I proved that he withholds information from his eBay listings. The guy is just as bad as Bill Mastro.
If you watch the video, he uses tools to alter the edges. Also removing part of a card with the intent to increase a grade or appeal is altering by itself.
I mean, you can make your own opinion on this, but i would personally say that the cards are just as much artwork as a painting is. Counterfeiting artwork is a crime, and that's exactly why altering is looked down upon. It's sad seeing people take advantage of trading cards. Makes everything we worked on building seem pointless.
I continue to maintain that yours is the single most underrated Pokemon channel. I know you've probably heard this a million times already and maybe you've already tried it, but I think that for all it's faults (and there are many), Instagram is worth considering as another platform to cross promote your channel due to how active the Pokemon community is there and how desperate the community is for more voices like yours. Again sorry if this is all stuff you've heard/tried before, I just wanted to give my 2 cents because I think it's a shame more people don't see your stuff.
