My very first playthrough I did build a well and then determined it was a waste. I have never build another one. In my Meadowlands farm I opted to plant my crops close to that water source, even though I don't have a lot farming space. I am not growing many crops this spring. Once I get the farm cleared and have a better feel for the layout, I may put the crops closer to the stream and move the animals to the front of the house. I had to work hard to find enough clay to get my silo built before I ran out of the starting 15 hay. I did not realize that it wasn't in a pattern in 1.6 so I started trying to farm it a la min-maxers only to be disappointed and my character became nearly exhausted a few times.
Getting enough clay now seems like maybe artifact spots would help (since they give clay) or just digging up a whole heap of dirt and hoping it works out.
If I remember right I think you built a well on rustic ridge farm. And it was for the same reason the water was too far from the og farm spot. I also just love how everyone starts the farming area right by the house no matter what kind of farm type (I do the same and think it’s funny)
It's just the easiest/most convenient spot to get to. I think someone else mentioned I built one on the Ridge Farm - which IIRC - I only did because I had not every done so before. Hilarious.
Yep, I did buy a well once, at the time I remember that my crops were away from a water source. Wish I could remember which farm. So glad you are playing 1.6, great fun.
I always buy 8 strawberries the first year but hang on to then until the second year when I can plant them right on Spring 1 and already have quality sprinklers and can make Speedgro. Also, if you are using your axe or pickaxe to get weeds out of your way instead of your scythe, you're wasting energy. The scythe doesn't use any energy. I hang on to geodes until I don't have to worry about the cost (yes, it's only 25g) but since you might be getting something that won't help other than giving you something to donate to the museum, I just don't bother until a little later in the game. Like in summer or even fall. Energy and gold are the two things you don't want waste in the early game.
If I don't have a sword of scythe on me and a bush is in the way it gets whacked. I don't really care about the 2 or 3 energy typically. But that's mostly because I'm too lazy to walk back to the chest to get it. I go for the museum stuff as fast as possible because I love my little green crystal tower so much
@HillHomeGaming yeah, I have whacked them too but I try not to when my energy is super low is all. The min/max comment made me laugh as I have been playing the game since it was still only version 1.3 (started playing in April 2018) and have never once completed the community center before mid summer of year 2. Usually it's around the end of Fall year 2. I'm definitely not a min max person, lol! Oh but your fishing skill is definitely impressive! One of the first mods I ever downloaded* was "Experience Bars." Shows you what level you are right on the screen, (you can toggle the bars on and off, and they don't show up in cutscenes) and more importantly, shows how close you are to a new level. If you level up, you wake up with your full energy, even if you over-exert yourself or if you stay up until 2 AM and pass out. (Although, if you pass out, you still have to pay 10% of your money or 1000 g, whichever is less.) So if you're ALMOST at that next level of fishing or foraging, you know that it's okay to keep going a little later, because you'll wake up with full energy if you just catch a few more fish. My strategy is actually not to sell any fish before level 5 fishing (when you can add 25% value to them. I usually also pause selling once I hit level 9, since at level 10 you can add 50% value) and just fishing until I pass out every day that I gain a level in fishing. I'm usually able to hit level 5 by the end of day 7 or 8 in this way and I get a big payday from my fishing. (Eating the algae/seaweed I fish up to get energy, and recognizing that each cast uses 7 or 8 energy. (Each cast actually uses 8-0.1x where x is your level, so at level 10, each cast uses 7 energy.) Your other tools use 2-0.1x per use, so once you hit level 10 farming, you watering can and hoe each use 1 energy per use/tile watered/tilled. I also pause my selling once I hit level 9, since I can get extra money for my fish when I hit level 10. (Which is usually by the end of Spring.) I also always try to sell my crops to Pierre, both because I get the money instantly, but also because villagers tell you about buying your crops sometimes in conversation. Of course, if it's a delicious, gold-quality crop they tell you how good it was, and tell you that Pierre said he grew it himself. (If it's regular quality, "It was disgusting! No wonder it was on sale!") *The first Mod I downloaded overall was the "Canon dialogue expansion" which adds a bunch of extra dialogue to all the characters with heart levels. one way to make good money early on, is to build a cheap fish pond. then, IF....if you can catch a sturgeon or super cucumber, it make "Roe" for you. then , you build a artisan "pickler" than transforms the Roe into caviar or an expenisive pickled sauce. Big money.

I am hoping I can muster about 4500 dollars or more, at least...? then all i have to do afterwards is go to forage and plant crops and forage and plant crops. ??
Oh it is certainly possible on normal income levels to do that though maybe not that early on? Hmmm. You can get that in one day if you fish the whole day by around day 7 -9 pretty sure. I would say that is mainly possible (for me) with the first rod you buy for 1800 that lets you use bait because then you catch fish a LOT faster. Then you spend a day in the mines making bug meat out of the flying bugs and grubs. After that point you'll have plenty of bait for a little bit.
I remember one time I was fishing I got a treasure chest, and inside that chest was I think some bait, a diamond, a third item I dont remember, and a bloody Iridium Band. I had to do a double take not only because I just got 4 stupidly good items from one single chest, but also because the funny thing was I was literally just thinking about how I even get access to iridium bands, that's probably the luckiest I've ever been and will probably ever be in Stardew Valley for a long while. Also makes me wonder if fishing level has any effect on what you can get from chests, cause if there's even a small chance you can get what I got when you're at level 0 fishing then that's honestly bonkers.

I think the double xp from perfect catches might be from you catching a fish one rarity above from what you would've got if it wasn't a perfect catch, I've heard perfect catches increase rarity at least, I did recognise that every iridium star rarity fish I caught was indeed a perfect catch after I heard that too.
Ok I just looked it up it's fish size? Interesting! Now there's a whole thing on how that is calculated on the wiki too but I didn't copy/pasta that part. Base fish quality is determined directly by the value of fishSize. A value below 0.33 corresponds to normal quality, a value between 0.33 and 0.66 corresponds to silver quality, and a value of 0.66 or higher corresponds to gold quality. This quality can be improved by one grade for each Quality Bobber equipped. It can also be improved by one grade with a perfect catch as long as the fish was at least silver quality initially. These boosts stack, with the Quality Bobber boost considered before the Perfect Catch boost. Since the maximum base fish quality is gold, the only way to get an iridium quality fish is by either getting a perfect catch or using the Quality Bobber
Sorry for two comments. First one got long. Bad luck with the catfishes. RNJesus strikes again. As for the well, yeah, like most of the other players I built it on this map, because it WAS too far to go for water.
It seems you are right in part. The better the "zone" the better the fish size which impacts the quality determination. So it is a bit of a combo of factors.
Hi hill always carry you hoe around there is hidden crops and other stuff in the worm spots. I would say save the geodes. I always use my free fish you get the first time u fish for the catfish because u can cancel it until you get it and you will never loose the first fish unless u hit the cancel button.
Many people wait on the catfish. However that puts me at LEAST one level of fishing behind (sometimes two). And with level 3 fishing I can usually just catch the catfish anyway. So I suppose it depends on your level of confidence in fishing!

HERESY. But also I will for a bit because it takes a lot of energy to break them but you don't get much bonus wood.
I really think I will want to even if just for decoration! But 1000g price tag still hurts a bit right at the start
If I remember correctly, I dont think your cast lenght actually has any effect on the quality of the fish you get.
It seems you are right in part. The better the "zone" the better the fish size which impacts the quality determination. So it is a bit of a combo of factors.
Didn’t you build a well on your hilltop farm?
So people tell me but that was so long ago I don't remember it haha
Wooo 🎉
Party time!
@@HillHomeGaming ya that’s very true
