a truly beautiful song... PielJij..altho you miss your Grandma, keep this in mind (somethin my Momon taught me) as long as you carry her memory in your heart & remember her...she lives through you...and is always with you...
amazon lists the Denny Family Chants but says it's out of stock and they don't know if they'll have it again. Thank you Joel Denny for sharing this beautiful song and your recording of your beautiful grandmother singing it. very strong.
For those asking this a gathering song, a song of peace. Wela'lin Sarah Denny and Michael Paul for carrying this song to the next generation. "I'KO" I’ko’ i’kanne’ I’ko’ i’kanne’ I’ko’ I’ko’ i’kanne’ I’ko kwa’nu’ta’ e’ I’ko kwa’nu’ta’ e’ I’ko kwa’nu’ta’ e’ I’ko’ I’ko’ i’kanne’ I’ko kwa’nu’ta’ e’ I’ko’ i’kanne’ I’ko’ i’kanne’ I’ko’ I’ko’ i’kanne’ Kwa’nu’ta’ e’ Ta Ho!
@rampageBEEF17 Ive spent a while trying to translate it myself (although i dont speak really any Mi'kmaq either), but it seems to be the case that this, like many native american songs, are not actually translatable into English (and assumably any other non-native language).
go first ,throw the first rock three times , then we shall throw back with unity/force by my kinfriends . i know it dosen't sound like a very peaceful song from a mainstream view , but remember M. S . V. and mikmaq view can be very different to the 180th degree. Don't know if there is a study to prove that but i can attest to it as i see it very often in the here and now . BTW English is second language for me , mikmaq first .
+Sarahbella Deerwoman Trujillo well sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean it in an offending way, and I fully support you keeping your culture alive, as I do. And I also said I liked it.
Honestly, I think Sarahbella is a bit touchy and rather aggressive. Sorry, Kitty Kat, not every American Indian is like that. And you don't have to like everything, Kitty Kat! lol
yeah you misunderstand from your ignorance. Defensive and aggressive is different kitty cat some people still believe our culture our music deserves respect not background elevator music for whites to gawk and aww at while they use estimates and half truths or because it sounded cool

im only listening to this because i need to insert this into a project for school. i like it, but not my style
Our traditions are sacred, and we keep them alive to preserve our culture, not to entertain you. No one cares if they're "your style".
