You're right with the transport. It is lamentable all over Australia, though. Otherwise I disagree. Melbourne is an amazing place. Beautiful beaches, museums, galleries, a lot of things to do... I was there twice and can't wait to come again.
I know what you mean. I'm not from Melbourne but I've just spent 10 days holidaying there and I fell in love with the city already...lucky I live in Auckland...only 4 hours flight and I'm there. : )
0:50 "still has that big city feel" no shit because it is a big city, and in the 9 years since this was posted it has grown like crazy. The skyline is almost unrecognizable compared to 2011.
I live in Victoria which means I can visit Melbourne whenever I want and believe me it's a city worth visiting some of you in the comments have been asking if there is any racism in Melbourne and I can tell you that as far as I can remember I've never seen any form of racism in Melbourne Melbourne is very multicultural whenever I go to Melbourne I see lots of Asian people there and it's great I love how multicultural Melbourne is so come and visit Melbourne you won't regret it.
Don't forget the Queen Victoria Market, on the corner of Elizabeth and Victoria Sts, both the No.57 & 55 trams will get you there. For their fantastic fruit, veggies, delies, butchers, cakes, plants, toys, clothes, house and kitchen items, souvenirs, material, shoes, hot dogs, hot jam doughnuts, cafes etc. Almost anything and everything you can want is there. Free to get in, closed on Wednesdays. In North Melbourne on the No. 57 tram line you have Errol St for great for cafes and the Jawa Bar on Victoria St if you feel like a relaxing drink with friendly people ; >
Good video. My only beef is that the mentioned Govt House by the Botanicals Gardens but showed a picture of the Shrine of Remembrance. Different places, both awesome.
The bowling alley in Albion should be considered a main attraction in Melbourne, followed closely by Werribee beach....voted most exotic beach in southern hemisphere 3 years in a row.
one mistake what you called Government house is the Shrine of rememberance Government house borders on the Royal botanic gardens also it is a large white building and a lot older than the shrine
another thing with melbourne shopping for those that want a discount, visit Direct Factory Outlet or, (in keeping with the theme of the video) DFO. Melbourne is also home to Australia's largest shopping centre (or mall) called Chadstone ( but commonly known as 'chaddy') which is accessible from the city
Trust me melbourne is not racist at all. A. Largest greek community outside of greece B. You will see tons of asians and indians in the CBD C. Cuisine from Mexico to Japan\ D. The airport even has announcements in chinese as well as english because so many chinese live there
I have flown out of Melbourne airport several times and every single time the place has been filthy. The toilets were disgusting, the rubbish bins all overflowing, even the Mcdonalds- which is the only place to have breakfast in that hole of an airport- was filthy. When I arrived at San Francisco airport it was like another world. The toilets were antiseptically clean, everywhere you went it was just immaculate.
Yeah, the roasted pork is best in combination with cabbage, dumplings and beer. :-D BTW your fish and chips are also delicious. I ate best one somewhere in Anglesea with nice view on the ocean. The Great Ocean Road is extraordinary. It must be seen. :)
Tiny poorly kept yards, houses so close they're almost touching, no shade, monotonous red and brown brick homes and cars parked on people's front yard. You're street view posting proves what I have been saying all along. Good job!
Yes, likely. :) Melbourne definitely belongs to top 10 places to visit in Asutralia. I must agree with the Victoria´s license plates - "Victoria - the place to be". BTW, I didn´t know, we´re famous even in Australia. :) Greetings from Prague!
One thing: when you mentioned Government House, you displayed a shot of the Shrine Of Remembrance. These are NOT the same place. The Shrine is a beautiful place to visit and a must on any tourist itinery.
There is an 11th thing you need to know about Melbourne: It was ranked highly in the QS Best Student Cities Rankings 2012-13! Want to see the rest of our list? This year’s results are out on the 20th of November! www.topuniversities.com/
the things you mention can be related to almost all cities, ive been there 5 times last 2 years to visit familie, yes ive been balboa park d the zoo, legoland and seaworld, but thats your 3 main attractions there, ive been everywhere in SD including a chargers game, las americas outlets, casino up in the mountains and theres 2 of em, 1 with another outlet, no international airport, i said its up there in the USA did i not, apart from all the homeless on the east end of the city, SD my second home
Melbourne is a communication city in tune with its people...the weather is variable but thats part of its charm...its built on a huge bay...the lifestyle is relaxed and unpretentious...its people are helpful and friendly particularly to visitors... the restaurants are casual the food is nearly always good and ethnically varied...its a city to live in, easy to get around and most importantly its better than Sydney
Looks a bit like a 60s travelogue, misnamed buildings etc, but the source material saves it. No mention of the twice-daily car park called the M1, but then again, backpackers don't drive much I suppose.
1. I wouldn't recommend a visit to St. Kilda, there is nothing exceptional about the beach, places in it or people in it, and Luna Park is nothing special, if you've got kids it might be worth a visit but if you can I'd leave it off the list 2. Streets for eating out is generally quite good, lygon street is a must if you're into your Italian I would also recommend flinders lane (Especially for a stop off for breakfast or lunch) and South wharf (Has a mixture of somewhat affordable dining and high end dining, if you're not a budget traveler it's a good visit for foodies) 3. For a shopping addict add in DFO South Wharf or possibly Chadstone (Majority of second floor is high end shops for those with deep pockets). 4. He mentioned it but definitely see a game of AFL (April -> October is when it's on) and get a general seating preferably level 2 close to the barrier for a good seat, those who arent a fan of sport skip it. 5. Peninsula Hot Springs, about 1.5hrs from the city I believe is a hot springs but try and go between school holiday times and off peak times as it gets quite annoying if it's busy imo... Also plenty of views in the area and nice cafes/restaurants in Mornington. 6. Plenty of hiking trails around Melbourne, they require a bit of driving but there is definitely some nice places to get out into some fresh air here, there is also the option of doing a trek around the Grampians and camping there for a day or two whilst you hike around. Definitely not short of nature here, some to name would be Dandenong Ranges, Olinda and Redwood forest. 7. For wine lovers take a day trip to Yarra Valley and visit the vineyards to try some of our wine 8. Go for a pub crawl around melbourne, trams and trains run all night now on weekends so hop on and have a explore of pubs and bars And finally... Just walk around the CBD... Go into laneways, take a tram if you like (All trams are free within CBD zone).. Despite what the doomsayers might say you're very safe here, as with any city on earth there are bad eggs but in general the people are very honest, welcoming and friendly
It should to concern about day life for library, museum, travel in melbourne, sport,... Some entertainment : movie, music, ..., shopping, local food in melbourne. Nightlife as club, bar, coffee and dine. Have you ever know about dockland, DFO, Lygont, and Flinder square. It should be list all thing in part and introduce one by one.. Regards.
Central Melbourne, Bourke St Mall and Collins St and Chapel st shopping are WAAAY too expensive high end... locals don't usually go there (I lived there 3.5 years). You can get the same brands on sale at factory outlets on Bridge Rd in Richmond, which is a short tram ride from the city (suburb right next to the city, just east). Catch the 75 tram from outside flinders st station toward Vermont South and get off at stop 15. Then walk along bridge road in the direction the tram was going.
Mate I been to fed square but I never find out where these museums are. I asked some but no one has a clue abt it. Also are these museums paid or free?
I'm going to study in Melbourne in February and I'm sooooo excited!!! I just have one query, apparently there is still racism in Melbourne and other Australian cities! Is this true?
lol yea i Know!!!! I'm from South Africa and it's pretty bad here but I've heard that the segregation is really bad, like certain races can't go into certain areas
I am also going for studies...as far as i know melbourne is safe...but there is a probability that you might think of a joke as racial- abuse.....aussies are very open kinda people....you have to get used to that.
We don't have segregation. That's illegal here and not at all part of our culture. Like all big cities, there are some people who are racists, but we are one of the most multicultural cities in the world and we have lots of festivals celebrating various cultures. And Melbourne is way more interesting than this video makes it look!
Melbourne is extremely enjoyable and walkable, make sure you drink its great coffee, go to an MCG footy game and sit down along the river and draw! ;) Did I mention drink the coffee already? :)
why so many bad comment about Melbourne??I,m got plan holiday to Melbourne but reading a lot of comment below make me think twice ,whats happen there??,,,but so nice video ,thks ya,from Kuala Lumpur 2015,,,
And thank him for also for mentioning the Royal Exhibition Building but not even showing it. One of our most beautiful buildings and also now on the World Heritage List. But hey, who really cares about those little things. ;-)
dont worry about Max, his just a troll hating on every melbourne video, must of got rejected in melbourne at the airport lol, btw prague is nice, love that bridge!

mate, Melbourne is the sporting capital of the world!!!!!
Don't forget the Queen Victoria Market, on the corner of Elizabeth and Victoria Sts, both the No.57 & 55 trams will get you there. Melbourne is home, and it is amazing...
I miss this city so much
yeah, if you come here ( Melbourne) you have to see the market, it's really great
Can't wait to visit Melbourne!
04:18 - that's not Government House, it's the Shrine of Rememberance... As a Melburnian, it's hard to see how these got mixed up...
Yeah, it's so obviously the shrine, they don't even look very similar
They're not even remotely close to each other either, it's a wonder how they got that wrong.
I was lucky enough to be on the top floor of the shrine when they do that light thingy. You probs don't know what I'm talking about.
Only if you think 450m is "not even remotely close"
This song!!!! Couldn't watch the video any longer.
Melbournes great and all, I only love it for it's friendly skateboarding vibe, where all great mates!!
The building at 4:20 I actually the Shrine of Remembrance no Government House.
great presentation! would love to visit it some day, though it is so far away...
Melbourne is a beautiful city..anyone can fall in love with this city :)
thx for compliment on the city; i live there ;D
Melbourne and Australian cities looked pretty clean
I'm moving from San Francisco and looking at Melbourne or Sydney, and this looks so much like SF! Trams, laid back but big city...
one mistake what you called Government house is the Shrine of rememberance Government house borders on the Royal botanic gardens also it is a large white building and a lot older than the shrine
Albert Weir 666
Very informative. Worth-watching. Thank you.
another thing with melbourne shopping for those that want a discount, visit Direct Factory Outlet or, (in keeping with the theme of the video) DFO. wow.. I am amazed. Wish I can visit Australia ...
Visit.. you like to be friends
The Vietnamese restaurant Ha Long in Richmond is amazing! One of the best meals I've ever had.
Trust me melbourne is not racist at all.
A. Largest greek community outside of greece
B. You will see tons of asians and indians in the CBD
C. Cuisine from Mexico to Japan\
D. The airport even has announcements in chinese as well as english because so many chinese live there
I miss you Melbourne. See you soon.
Miss Melbourne so much

Yeah, the roasted pork is best in combination with cabbage, dumplings and beer. :-D BTW your fish and chips are also delicious. I ate best one somewhere in Anglesea with nice view on the ocean. The Great Ocean Road is extraordinary. It must be seen. :)

Tiny poorly kept yards, houses so close they're almost touching, no shade, monotonous red and brown brick homes and cars parked on people's front yard. You're street view posting proves what I have been saying all along. Good job!
That's awesome you can bring your own alcohol!! Ha that would be the highlight of the vid for me
Yes, likely. :) Melbourne definitely belongs to top 10 places to visit in Asutralia. I must agree with the Victoria´s license plates - "Victoria - the place to be". BTW, I didn´t know, we´re famous even in Australia. :) Greetings from Prague!

most of the secondhand shops around the city are too expensive.. except for salvos. Salvos are awesome!
How do I go about If I wish to buy a property in Australia ? Revert. Thank you.
thank you, very useful video.
Amazing city!

I live in Melbourne just near Chadstone 2 minutes from Chadstone

whats that song that always plays from behind ?
At 1.21 that the station used in some of the scenes in Prisoner Cell Block H .
I wouldn't say it's overly clean, though definitely cleaner than Marseilles or Paris
I'm from Melbourne and I wish I can get out of here
I'm going to study in Melbourne in February and I'm sooooo excited!!! I just have one query, apparently there is still racism in Melbourne and other Australian cities! Is this true?

Melbourne is one of the most multicultural and diverse cities in the world, you'll have no problem fitting in! :)

Melbourne and Brisbane are the most livable cities in Australia. Way in front of fractured boring heartless cold sydney
Melbourne is extremely enjoyable and walkable, make sure you drink its great coffee, go to an MCG footy game and sit down along the river and draw! ;)
Did I mention drink the coffee already? :)
I have made similar videos about Melbourne and other Australian most frequent parts.
Please make video on sydney
We've got one already! Check it out: ruclips.net/video/3_anxwy42s8/видео.html&lc=z224htyw1r2ut1mtnacdp435oyd13pbsj5gu20mwerxw03c010c

How many required to explore Melbourne
dont worry about Max, his just a troll hating on every melbourne video, must of got rejected in melbourne at the airport lol, btw prague is nice, love that bridge!
