  • Researchers at La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI) are taking a closer look at how measles virus fuses with cells to initiate infection. New work led by LJI Professor, President & CEO Erica Ollmann Saphire, Ph.D., MBA, show how a neutralizing antibody can inhibit this viral fusion process and prevent infection. Dr. Saphire’s findings are important for guiding the development of antibody therapeutics and new vaccines against measles. This research can also inform the development of vaccines against the broader paramyxovirus family, which includes deadly pathogens such as Nipah virus.
