  • Siphon starts and the flow rate can be adjusted by ranging or lowering the gallon of water. One gallon 30 degree increase in 7 minutes. Extremely simple test. No music audio for text presentation. See pinned comment.

No music track, royalty free soundtrack was claimed by so artist on youtube's audio database so since this is a quick video with text explaining it, no need to keep trying with audio tracks I purchased. Someone even has the sound of thunder copyrighted so ever so often, my lightning videos get a copyright claim I need to dispute. Technology sucks sometimes.

      "Sound of thunder copyrighted."
I think the whole system can be summed up with that. That's insane.

Their algorithms basically destroyed how videos are placed on RUclips. Shares and video counts are all that matters. At one time, the like/dislike rating moved videos up…..but mass robot pay for clicks messed that up so……. It bothered me a while back because a few videos I spent 60+ hours on shooting editing got 7,000 views over 3 years. I got over it. Now I am back to just sharing info. No background music, no fancy edits, do my best with audio (good mics but still noisy where I live). Internet changes are tough too. I need to simplify my website as the devices used for viewing and new upgrades are not backwards compatible. I know I am/was whining, the time off gave me a chance to view things differently.

Dude, the guy spends the extra time editing the video with music and you claim that's lazy? The only thing lazy around here is RUclips's digital fingerprinting algorithm. He'll probably upload the video again without music when he gets around to it.

OK This is some cool science here, Theory , Yes, but so much hands on practical.

I looked at so many big screens at my old recycling center and thought "one day, I'll put in the effort to grab the lens." That day never came, and now $215 doesn't sound like much. I guess that's a long way of saying thanks for your store and the videos: a proof of concept makes this a LOT more accessible for folks who are interested but don't necessarily want to put money into a hobby project that might completely fail (vs. just going over money/time budget).
I've been using natural gas to brew beer (essentially heating water with grain in it then boiling the heck out of it) for quite a while, and that always struck me as a project that solar would be great at: you can pick the time (usually 5-7 hours for one day), the energy demand is basically "how much have you got?", the thing produced (i.e. beer) stores the value of the energy you put in, the max temperature needed is hot enough to boil a separate tank of fluid and it's an activity best done outside. Watching your videos, I figured that your giant fresnel is worth 2-2.2 kW in full sun (SE Texas is similar to your insolation), which would bring a 16 gallon batch to a boil from 25C in around 2 1/2 hours (assuming no losses, so likely 150-200% of that time even with insulation).
My thought is to use a short evacuated tube with fluid flowing directly in to the bottom via small tube and out the lid to a copper pipe heat exchanger in the mash tun/boil kettle (i.e. a big Bayou Classic pot). I'm interested to get the evacuated tube as that will determine a lot of the design for the lid, but I'm fairly confident that this will work. Will keep you posted, but in the interim thanks for all that you do. It reaches more people than you're aware of.

Awesome demonstration! For a 15 minute hot shower, you only need track 7.5 degrees, or less, depending on the area and intensity of the hot spot.

Have you ever tried two lenses, the first one to be convergent to a spot, and then another at or near the focal point, opposite orientation, to make a coherent, non-diverging "dth ray", which then wouldn't have a set focal distance, but would be direct able over a distance, reflectable via mirrors, and more combinable than your other experiments? Kind of how a telescope works? Or would this destroy the 2nd lens by the heat of the first?

  • @OverUnity7734

Put the coil in a mirrored half pipe and you would not have to readjust as the sun moved across the sky.

hit the coil with some high temp black paint and see if it makes a significant difference. Thanks Dan!

    • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE

Once it goes patina, that is the best color for copper. I have discovered that for copper, black paint acts as a second surface thermal barrier. Works great for large surface natural light collection like a car or solar water hater but with concentrated sunlight it only helps if the surface is stainless. I have a video on the difference but need to find footage or redo and upload. It is really interesting with copper because the paint vs patina is about 20% with concentrated sunlight.

I had a royalty free sound track = music but RUclips claimed it as another artist so I am not even gonna mess with music. Giant dump trucks all day, interstate expansion 500 feet from house……… Weekends are the only shoot time for the year for me talking……voiceover is an option but this is quick simple science..

    • @thebeststooge

Don't worry Dan as we had this convo a few years back and nothing ever changes only gets worse. Hell, even the president got a strike on him but the band had no issues with it being used as fair use (which it was) but the drive by false copyright claims are for everyone. Sadly when they claim and you appeal they go back to them and ask them if your appeal is legit. Ahem, yeah, screw that nonsense.

No, I had a soundtrack, royalty free and youtube pinged it as "Other Artist Content" after I uploaded the first one so I had to just go no sound. Sucks but the only option is to dispute and that can take a week to get approved.
