There is is a live version you know. One in Hawaiii.
You need to chill, honestly because it comes across as a fake reaction. I love to see people smile but good grief not to this. Are you having sugar overload. Nay, not real.

Sorry that i got giddy about an awesome song. Also sorry that you've obviously never felt as happy about Elvis singing as i have. Which is a little sad, you shouldn't be afraid of your emotions Beth! Want to see fake emotions? Watch some Eastenders, want to see the real deal stick around here! I'm not FAKING anything! You definitely need to and have to react to the 1977 Aloha From Hawaii live version of MY WAY by Elvis Presley. Frank Sinatra was the original artist to the song. Although from my perspective, Sinatra kinda talks the song but Elvis emotionally sings the song and I absolutely love Elvis's version of MY WAY.

Imagine the Entertainer of the 2nd half of the 20th Century, Elvis, snatching the SIGNATURE song of arguably the Entertainer of the 1st half of the 20th Century, Sinatra, right out from under him, bettering it, making it also known as an Elvis song, and IMO, far more superior in interpratation and emotion. Only Elvis! The live versions are of course the ultimate.

OK here is a little bit of history here - The unfinished studio version was recorded June 10/11, 1971 and not released till 1995 (18 years after he died..........( same as the 1 unfinished take of It's Different Now and For The Good Times).
Take 3 is considered the "master". Supposedly Elvis was dissatisfied with the female singers in the studio on this day and ended up storming out complaining that they didn't know their parts.
He then started doing it live in 1972 for a couple of years and picked it up againin 1976 until he died. Aloha version in 73 is sublime.

The original French song is entitled "Comme d'habitude" & composed by Jacques Revaux, Gilles Thibaut & Claude François. The English version (My Way) was written by Paul Anka who re-wrote the original version for Frank Sinatra. Anka changed the lyrics & subtly altered the melodic structure. The original French song has nothing to do w-Paul Anka’s written version as we know it, for the translation of "Comme d'habitude" meaning is “something that happens regularly” or “that isn't surprising.” There is a video of the original French version w-English subtitles on the internet.
Sinatra’s daughter Nancy said Sinatra did not like the song to the point of hating it. Sinatra said it was "self-serving" but performed it many times anyway. It’s interesting that Sinatra thought it was self-serving since he was extremely spoiled from early childhood to the point of wanting everything his way throughout his life.
You may want to watch Elvis' live on stage performance in Hawaii 1973 -- sorry I can't get a link for it right now.

    - - - - Never released as a single, BUT the 1977 live version was, and that went higher than Frank Sinatra's version! Although I don't normally point folks to Elvis' last show, due to health issues, his voice was the richest and most powerful (think opera) just before he died. As a result, he did some of the best versions of his ballads (not uptempo songs) in that last year of life. Having said all of that, the studio version he recorded was surprisingly less attractive than any of his live versions of it.

  • @npinhas
    @npinhas 2 месяца назад +1

A cute story told by Paul Anke, who wrote the song to a French tune. Sinatra invited him to dinner (and you don't say no to Sinatra), and told him that he intended to release a final album and retire from the music world. "You promised me a song, you didn't!". Anka returned to the hotel and imagined if Sinatra had written the song, how it would have sounded. He finished, played Frank the farewell song from the world of music. Sinatra said "I'm recording it. First!!!". And the rest is history. By the way, in my opinion the 2 performances, by Sinatra and by Elvis, are equal in their greatness and the song itself is in the top ten of all time.

Paul Anka said quote "I wrote the song for a great friend, he was one of a kind, a great humanitarian, and this song is his legacy" Now you would think he would be talking about Elvis but he was talking about Frank Sinatra. Anka sings it very meh, nothing that I care to listen to again. Sinatra sang it better than him but neither were on the same planet compared to Elvis let alone the same block, So with all of that said and me understanding that we all have different taste and opinions in music, I'm curious why you wanted us to look at Anka's?

When you get to An American Trilogy, watch the live 1973, not the live 1972. Huge difference. Liveb1973 My Way way better.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but I have to find out if you will also do a review for the same song performed live by Elvis two years from 1971? Because you will find something more amazing than that...just saying

As good as this is, I cannot agree with people saying that it is better than Sinatra's version.
    Sinatra owns this song.

BANGER BANGER All DAY LONG, However, I did not like this version at all!! It was too slow and his voice was great, but WAY more POWERFUL Live! This song always gets me because my Poppie loved Sinatra and my mom loved Elvis. There both gone and it kills me when I hear this one. Lol ❤

No, Elvis didn't do it his way. He didn't want to do the majority of his movies. He also wanted to tour the world and was not able to.

He definitely did do it his way, more than any other artist. Don't you remember all of the criticism and threats? Nobody has complete control of everything in their lives, but Elvis was exceptional and changed our whole damn culture. I'd say, "he did it HIS way".❤❤❤

This version is horrible. Weak. Tough to listen to. Elvis started doing this live in 1972 and every version I’ve heard is exceptional. The 1973 Aloha version is a masterpiece.

Elvis version of My Way completely destroys Frank Sinatra version of the same song in my humble opinion. For the life of me i cannot understand why Elvis never won a Grammy for Elvis version of this beautiful song. I can only assume the Grammys for some reason are totally anti- Elvis and thats a fact.

The so called experts, even today, view Elvis as a rock and roller who shook his hips, not a serious singer. Not the greatest performer who ever lived.
      Sad.
