Thank you :) I appreciate the way you teach and look forward to using some of these techniques. What I hear often from clients is how much they appreciate the slow movements. They seem surprised at the depth they can receive when I melt slowly into the tissues. I love that you encourage this.
Who'd have thought I'd enter 'thoracic outlet syndrome' on Pinterest and find your video? Very glad I did find it- deeply appreciative to you for sharing your thoughts and techniques. I have a client who has been experiencing all the signs of TOS. He had a nerve conductivity test, and while waiting (another two weeks) for the doc to make a formal diagnosis, my client has asked me specifically for treatment of TOS. Very good video, and thank you again!
Thank you x 1000000. Have been having problems with my thoracic outlet and neurovascular pressure thanks to bad posture, rotator cuff injuries over the years and crappy pillows. Path to recovery requires physio visits but A LOT lot of self-massage, and this is so helpful.
Thankyou for all your videos. I've been having problems now for the last 18 months with tingling, pain and weakness down my right arm. My Doctor is sending me for an MRI and I've been seeing a chiropractor for the last 6 months. In the meantime it's great to have someone like you sharing your knowledge and expertise to help people like me! :)
Happy to do so! I've got a self-massage routine for thoracic outlet syndrome on my other channel if you'd like to take a look: ruclips.net/video/V9DIwIVfEiE/видео.html
I have thoracic outlet syndrome and have suffered from chronic shoulder pain for 9 years. My boyfriend massages my shoulder every night and we’re gunna give This a try and see if it helps. Thank you for making such a detailed informative video.
Your videos are brilliant. So informative and detailed but with with amazing communication and clarity, and not over academic. So appreciate the demos which make the practical application clear.Thankyou .
thank you so much!!! Excellent instruction. I have a client coming in tomorrow who has been recently diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. I will try this and add my own touch. :)
Just did these moves on a fellow massage therapist having a lot of tingling in arms, especially at night. She loved it. Thanks so much. I love the pec minor pin and stretch. I often do the pec minor, but without pinning it and I just love that addition.
Great video. Thanks for posting it. I'm going to use it soon on a client with TOS symptoms and history. I like the combo of techniques you used and the flow, nothing too aggressive, makes a lot of sense and you explained what you were doing and why very well. Keep up the good work!
i need this. i have just been to see an osteo and they are thinking based on symptoms I have TOS. I am interested in these techniques. Thanks for your videos...especially on self help/ massage.
How about people that developed nerve impingement after neck surgery? With their thumb going numb. After the massage the numbness switch slightly towards tingling. Would this technique be beneficial as well in your opinion?
Ah! That's because it's an embarrassing old video on a channel I used to run 😁 It's still good info, just a bit rough in the presentation: ruclips.net/video/V9DIwIVfEiE/видео.html
I woyld love to find a therapist who could help me with these issues of ts..seems like you tell them what the issue is and its glossed over for getting thru the 50 min session!
Lymph nodes have a particular texture and movement to them, and they become easier to identify over time. Basically, if you feel something the size of a lentil that is quite superficial and able to move a little bit, you've found a lymph node. I recommend looking into lymph node locations so that you'll know to keep an eye out for them as you work. You don't need to avoid them like the plague, just dodge to one side or the other if you're using a small tool and come across one.
As much as I wish massage could be a prime determinant of posture (and I thought that it could be for the longest time), that's a job best accomplished by changes to your daily habits. How you sit and move during your day determines how habitually short each postural muscle is, and little reminders that you are capable of extending and expanding can change those signals. Take many opportunities through the day to stretch up and out, and consider a regular training regimen that gets you moving your body in new and interesting ways. A well-educated personal trainer can make a world of difference. Best of luck!
Hi Ian! I have a tingling sensation that runs from the left base of the back of my neck and down to my shoulders. Is this the same thing? I happens when i'm sleeping on my sides. when i sleep on my back, i have a tingling and numbing on the right side of thigh. What does this mean? Thanks so much. Daniel
Liz Schneider Absolutely! In fact, that's a change that I've made over the last year. I'll add a notation; we don't want people standing up with sore necks! Thanks Liz :)
Hi Maggie! I'm trying to figure out exactly which technique you're looking at; if it's the one where I'm using a single phalanx to apply pressure just superior to the clavicle, my other hand is just applying supportive contact nearby. These techniques around the scalenes can feel a little weird, so it's nice to have broad pressure elsewhere to reassure the nervous system. Let me know if there's another one that you were asking about!
Sorry about that, I need to add it to the description! You can find it here: ruclips.net/video/V9DIwIVfEiE/видео.html Embarrassingly old video warning 🙂
I've got pectus excavatum and I was going through a depressive episode during this period, neither of which bodywork can fix. But more to the point: Why does my head forward posture matter if it doesn't cause me pain? Please be careful with your body reading powers; they're fine for evidence gathering, but can be needlessly stigmatizing when used in a vacuum.
Where is the video for the self massage? This is one of your earliest videos and there is nothing about self message before it. I suffer from this and I'm married to someone who can't massage for long cause he has psoriasis on his arms and hand. It causes cracking of his skin. So I need to self treat
I was going through a severe depressive episode during this video, one of the worst of my life, and it's reflected in my posture. I know you couldn't have known that, but that's a good reason to refrain from commenting on strangers' posture at all.

New massage therapist here with a new client today who left in his booking notes that he has this. Knew I could count on Sloth to help me out

phoebe parker have you seen any improvement??
Very good, simple and the voice pitch goes accordingly with the tuition. almost not background noise which unfortunately occur in most videos

Aw you're at a school! That's so cool. Man. Thank u. U help also to give confidence 💙
Do you do courses that we could physically attend ???
Your videos are so informative, I like the way you teach massage.

Thank you 🙏 Beautiful work!
Ian, is a massage guru
This is so helpful - thank you!
Ian, thanks for the tutorial. I am sure that I will be using it!
Great video! I'm going to start using this today. Do you think it's ok for a patient with Thoracic outlet syndrome to use a sauna? Any thoughts?
Ty... Any tips and how to find a therapist that can do this? Or should I ask my current PT for it
Any spa that offers medical massage should be fine.
Thank you so much. Could you offer a link to the "self-work" you refer to-- I can't seem to find where you mean to look. Thank you.

really dope work on this this track! id be down to work on a record with you
great informative video thanks
Dude! You are so Good..
Hey Ian, how do you distinguish between a lymph node and a trigger point when palpating?
Lymph nodes have a particular texture and movement to them, and they become easier to identify over time. Basically, if you feel something the size of a lentil that is quite superficial and able to move a little bit, you've found a lymph node. I recommend looking into lymph node locations so that you'll know to keep an eye out for them as you work. You don't need to avoid them like the plague, just dodge to one side or the other if you're using a small tool and come across one.
your upper body posture is suffering my friend.
how you take care of that?
As much as I wish massage could be a prime determinant of posture (and I thought that it could be for the longest time), that's a job best accomplished by changes to your daily habits. How you sit and move during your day determines how habitually short each postural muscle is, and little reminders that you are capable of extending and expanding can change those signals. Hi Daniel, I recommend talking to your doctor about it, I can't diagnose. Best of luck!
Okay will do. Thanks!
thank you for what you do :)
Should the client have their head turned to one side for so long? Can we do the arm work with their head at start point?
Liz Schneider Absolutely! In fact, that's a change that I've made over the last year. I'll add a notation; we don't want people standing up with sore necks! Thanks Liz :)
Hi, Ian. In minute 13 I can't tell what you're doing with your left hand; is it a pin and stretch? Thanks.
