This was an interesting story. Yes when there is "LOVE" there can be insane twists. Love can be blind. There are people who can manipulate and destroy everything they touch. The main thing is to get out of it ASAP. Staying is enabling and will get worse. Justice can be served. If you don't stand the acts will spread. You are not the only one, facing the same sort of madness

Japan. You do not file charges against family there. Only when her husband frees her from the family - and himself - by divorcing her ( his guilt makes him give her his assets in the divorce) is she free to seek justice against her former sister in law .

@@patrajacobs5609 Hey I agree with you. Just trying to point out that it's HERSELF that keeps her from filing charges. There are plenty of laws in Japan against abuse and assault. There is also a cultural taboo against filing charges against family. She doesnt have to obey her husband. She CHOSES to because despite the western names and stuff, she is Japanese to the core. Unless you've lived there you have no idea of the kind of sh*t people get away with in Japan. Women will see their husbands viciously abuse their children and not call the police on him. Truth.

Just because the husband refused to press charges, doesn't mean that Hannah couldn't. After all, she was the one who was assaulted and if she chose to press charges, that would have trumped his refusal. Continuity counts, folks. If you're going to present stories with legal aspects, you should do your homework so you know how the law works. That is a huge error, which made what should have been a refreshing story fail on the enjoyment scale. It's an insult to the listeners' intelligence.

@@lindasavelle1731 I think if a culture is going to continue to allow family members to be physically abusive towards in-laws and other family members then they need to start allowing the victims to pursue legal justice easily.

@@GypsyHunter01 well yeah. Japan has plenty of laws against abuse, Japanese politicians like politicians everywhere love to pass laws. It's getting people to use them. OP is the victim, doesn't matter if her husband won't file charges or not, it's up to OP. Not sure where they live but here if something like that would happen it wouldn't matter if the husband refused to file charges, OP ended up in the hospital from the assault and they would of held her until OP regained consciousness or died.

Ok guys, this is a Japanese story; they've tried to westernize it but the justice systems are very different and writers write about what they know. So in the US when a serious assault happens someone calls 911, and paramedics and the police arrive. The victim is taken to the hospital, the police begin to take witness statements and collect evidence. The police wlll take pictures of the crime scene; they will photograph every item including the weapon before picking it up with gloved hands and placing it in evidence bags to preserve any fingerprint or dna evidence on it. The state, in the form of the prosecutor decides whether or not to try the case. In Japan the victim and/ or their family collect evidence and take it to the police, who then decide whether to investigate. In the west most of this evidence could not be used in trial because it would be considered tainted, improperly collected. At some point the police will ask the victim: do you want to press charges? And most Japanese will not press charges against family. So now we get to the husband. This whole situation is his fault because in the Japanese way of thinking, he did not protect his wife. There have been other incidents and he encouraged family silence, discouraged anyone from filing charges, protected his sister and the family name. And now his wife is injured. He feels guilt. This is why he does what he does, gives up all his assets in the divorce. He is apologizing , which is expected in Japan when you do wrong, and no apology without money or expensive gifts is worth anything. He divorces his wife, and only then, now that she is no longer a member of the family, is OP free to try and bring her former sister in law to justice.
