I think it's ironic how during those times the East and West rappers looked at the Southern rappers like they were slow and stupid when the southern rappers was the ones that was really making the real money. The New York rappers was so quick to sign any deal to a major label. They were the ones that was really getting F'ed by the industry.
And still are
Fallacy. There was not a lot of opportunity for southern rappers to sign deals. When hip hop was a new thing most labels were located on the east coast. There were a few like rap a lot that had distribution, so southern rappers did the next best thing and sold out the trunk.
However, revisionist history won’t work. New Yorkers were slicker, smarter, and had more opportunities.
West never looked at the south like they was slow the west was already selling out of the trunk before the south because we did not have major radio push like nyc
