Hi John, as you retrieve your fly line, feed it into your landing net at your feet, that way you will avoid the dreaded wire mesh, or you could buy a line tray, and protect your expensive line.
Like journey videos John...started going too Rutland about 9yrs ago...then illness stopped me from going...started going back out on boats at menteith last season and loved it...hope to get back down this season...always loved buzzer fishing it...Great venue is Rutland....maybe even bump into you...and get some good tips like your videos and David lol 😆 🐟🐟🐟
Was there today(19/03/2022). South arm was calm ish and the north arm was really rough with the eastly wind and getting high at times. Had 9 to boat and lost 3, 1 was a brown around 5lbs. Had fish at East Creek drifting to Sailing Club and most at Buoy X just past the church. A had on olive snake on DI5. When I got in I found out 2 local fishermen that fish there all the time had 60 to the boat on buzzes in Dickenson's Bay. Hope this will help you and anyone that maybe going there soon. Oh and did your trick and snapped one of my rods playing a fish, good job I carry 3 rods with me, hehe
Evening John, I have a question for you about rutland as your a regular! Why is the fishing restrictions on bank on. What they protect ing ? Just interested! Thank you in anticipation John.
Love these vids especially as you fish so much from the bank. I use a snowbee line tray so I dont get snagged on the ground but it also adds yards to the cast as line isn't being pulled up so far. I'd pay extra for a wind like that when fishing buzzers.!
I don’t like line trays. It’s like fishing with a supermarket trolley strapped to me. Bought one, used it once then threw it away. Glad you like the videos 😀
John, ffs, get yourself a line tray when your fishing the bank, especially if the banks are rough or muddy, you’ll save yourself a lot of money instead of buying lines every season. I’m coming down for a week in 2022 and hope to bump into you. Regards Jimf 🏴

A great video channel, It's nice to see the bigger waters being bank fished. Keep up the good work, you're helping plenty of anglers like me.
Thanks Neil 😃

Might give Dickos a go from the boat on Tuesday.
Looks a perfect spot to fish buzzers drifting naturally 🐟🎣
It is 😀
Great little video.
David summers orders flies from me.
Line size up on the 7wt might make the casting easier.Gardeners tub would save your line from the mesh.
Happy with it as is 😃
@@johnp4hc That is after all what counts.😎Did not quite come across that way. with the..Loomis GLX

Nature England like to keep us off the banks in areas where we might disturb the birds.
@@johnp4hc thank you John, makes no sense but thanks anyway mate.

Wouldn’t a stripping basket help with line management issues on the wire mesh covered stones?
No I hate those things.
I have used one for 40 plus years & wouldn’t be without one, particularly in a high wind & fishing off gabion type bank structures.
@@bobhiatt1750 I just don’t like them. My new Wychwood Bankman net will double as a line tray.

Great to see a 5# being used , absolutely no need for big heavy rods and lines for trout….5 # is far more enjoyable fishing 🎣
I blooming love it!
What was the cassette reel you were using to begin with and is it any good?
Hardy Ultralite. ASR 5000. It’s BRILLIANT! Drag is super reliable. There is a new model for this year.
Hi John,
What is the 5wt rod you are using
Hardy Wraith 9ft.
