in retrospect I wish I had thought to include the Patrick Ta Major Headlines blush in "She's So LA" in this video, because it's an example of something I splurged on with my own budget that I kind of regret at this point. The formulas don't really suit me. I'll try to circle back to it in another video soon! The point is just that even with a quality-over-quantity mindset, one can't always predict how it will go between oneself and a new product, and that's ok. But I'm glad that there are more items in my drawer that have the Roen quad storyline than the She's So LA storyline. Thank you for watching!
I still stick to your short/ long term staples mindset in my own shopping! I have decluttered most of the splurges that I don’t like anymore, but sometimes I have to remind myself it’s ok to just spend a little more money up front on the thing I actually want, rather than buy 2 cheaper alternatives first, still not get what I’m really looking for, and then finally break down and getting the splurge in the first place.
I’d love to see a video like this, but on the “splurge” products you’ve received as gifts or in PR that you would spend your own money on to replace if you lost them. My biggest splurge product is Clionadh eyeshadows from the Stained Glass collection, and I have zero regrets. The most spectacular eyeshadows I’ve ever seen.
I bought the Natasha Denona eyeshadow primer because I wanted something that would help my eyeshadow work (For some reason all of it creased away in a few hours) and not irritate my eyes. It felt really weird spending $25 on a product when everyone raves over drugstore primers or uses concealer. Worked though, and that made it worth it for me. Big regret was the Fenty Eaze drop. I don’t wear foundation, never really have, and that product didn’t change my mind.
I keep meaning to go back and rewatch your whole no buy year for nostalgia, i was there as it unfolded and it’s been a beautiful journey to get to here, today. I keep hearing your line in my head “i was spending like a rich lady”
@@gianninal5455 I guess I might say medium? I have very big pores on my nose and I think that's where it really helps me out. It seems like it kinda fills in my pores and smooths them over without being gross and clogging them. So it's almost like it's covering a texture more than a color like redness or my dark circles. I do have very dark circles under my eyes - nothing quite covers them. I have a primer that fills my pores as well, but it actually highlights them and looks like dots of light makeup all over my nose. So I prefer to spackle them over with a great foundation instead of primer.
@@Impassion thanks for the info. I've never been a big foundation wearer but am now interested in something with a light- med to full on med coverage to cover some hyperpigmentation. I remember having the Armani applied yrs ago and liking the look but didnt pay attention to coverage as I wasn't looking to cover much of anything back then.
I've never bought luxury makeup but i have splurged on skincare and it was both worth it and not worth it because, yes, the sephora sale price on the lord jones acid mantle repair cream with ceramides and cbd was glorious, but now i'm out of it and have to contend with the reality that i really liked a $75 moisturizer
I just gasped. Who's got the dough to buy the whole thing every time? Or maybe they just don't finish it but crave a new color? Either way, that's not my lifestyle. I've been tempted by the colors, but I'd buy the pan only and get a magnetic palette. A little bamboo one would be so cute.
A splurge that I later regretted was the too faced chocolate bar palette. When I was in college, that was the first high end eyeshadow palette I purchased - and ended up not using it much because it was so "special" - I felt that I shouldn't use it for everyday makeup. Fast forward 5 years, I had to declutter it because it got old. Nowadays I know better to use my fancy makeup as much as possible 😊
I only go through one concealer per year, so I don't mind splurging a little. This year I bought the Kosas one for the first time and I really love it. I also splurged on a lipstick for the first time in my life, I bought the Rouje lipstick in "Laure" for 25€ - and I was right about it! It is a light brown with what I would describe as a rosy cinnamon tone and a light formula that makes it the perfect everyday colour for me. Worth it!
When Milk Makeup first came to Sephora I spent a full 35 on one of their holographic highlighters and I used it almost every single day, over the course of two years. Once it expired, I only had about a third of product left, though I wish it had lasted long enough to use entirely. Definitely a long term staple for me, and a happy memory.
The pandemic completely changed my makeup habits, particularly with regard to my fave lipsticks. I stuck with balms and glosses for a year…and am slowly getting excited about wearing my lipsticks again. ❤️
I just splurged on the Lisa Eldridge blush and highlighter. I considered the purchase for a while, but I love her so much, and the videos she put out made them look so great that I went for it. They just arrived today, so I’ll see if I think they’re worth it, but the review I watched yesterday makes me think they will be.
So I fell down the rabbit hole of RUclips beauty videos during Covid shelter in place, and I spent SO much on luxury makeup, Tom Ford, Pat McGrath, Jeffree Star . . . It was fun to do but I see now that I was endlessly trying to self-soothe and I need to stop. Your videos are helping me so much. Thanks for great content!
My biggest splurges since my no buy year were wayne goss eyeshadow, lipsticks and blush. I don't regret any of them, they are all excellent products that I think I will be using for years, but I do think that the fact that he's an influencer and there was a lot of FOMO about buying the blush, especially and I felt old feelings that were probably not great. I am glad that I managed to NOT buy the second eyeshadow palette and bronzer palettes because that would have been the old me. If I need a bronzer in the future I will probably get that one, but bronzers last so long that it won't be anytime soon.
I have wanted to try him for a while, but unfortunately I really only heard about him around the start of the pandemic, and I haven't been able to spend money on his products. Once I bounce back financially from the pandemic, and when I use up some of my current makeup, I will def try some of his stuff. I really like how he talks about age inclusivity in his products.
I find this very interesting! Would really like to see a skincare version of this as well. My biggest splurge was the beautiful Serge Lutens lipstick Mauve de Swann (With a Proust reference how could I resist?). I can justify buying this because I have a very curated makeup collection so these kind of indulgences are rare.
The first big splurge that comes to mind is my Roen 11:11 quad and that has been worth it. I reach for it all the time. When I know I’m going to have a 10+ hour day and need makeup that is beautiful and fixable, as in if I see in the mirror that it’s creased I can pat it out, it’s what I use. I’m close to pan on pretty much all 4 shades and I love it so much. I still feel pretty every time I smudge one of the shades all over my lids. Totally worth it BUT I have not given into the urge to try and duplicate it in my collection. I am embracing its specialness until it has all been used up.
My favorite makeup splurges are on lipsticks and tools! I adore looking at my extra fancy lipstick tubes, and my beautiful handmade compact mirror and Japanese brushes. Also, I love being able to splurge on a special eyeshadow palette, maybe once every two years. Last one was Angie's palette 😊
i buy luxury in other makeup categories but for some reason, eyeshadow has always been a tough one for me to splurge on- probably because i came up during the colourpop/morphe/coastal heyday when everyone was selling giant palettes for dirt cheap. but now that i'm not "collecting" (see: overspending) and actually working through my collection, i'm finding that a lot of those eyeshadows are actually pretty mediocre! i want to downsize and invest in a few trusty quads/singles. i think the roen 11:11 will be my first real eyeshadow splurge 🤩
Your discussion on the BB lip product that you currently feel is not worth it but which was when you bought it is a whole thing. I'm old. I've been really enjoying makeup for over 20 years now. In the last 10 or even 5 years makeup has become phenomenally better in quality. Particularly eyeshadow. There was a very distinct point at which pretty much my whole collection became obsolete over night just because the old ones were eclipsed in quality by new ones. I had a real moment of grieving about a year ago realising that so much was never going to be used and loved again. In that moment I felt such a sense of wastefulness ... I never used or will use that product right up, so it was a waste of money. But then I thought about the alternative which would have been having no makeup until the better makeup came along and I reached the conclusion that although I never used every ounce of it, it never the less served its purpose and if I knew then, what I knpw now, I still would not have chosen not to have any makeup until the better stuff came along. So it was still "worth it" for the joy it did bring, even though I'll never get every dollar's worth out of it.
A splurge I don't regret at all is my Pat McGrath matte lipstick in Guinevere. It's the perfect dark scarlet my dreams are made of when I think "red lipstick". At $52 + tax its my most expensive lipstick that I own and I adore seeing it on my vanity even if I don't wear it every single day. The same can be said for the Metamorphic Highlighter in Siren from Ritual de Fille, makes my heart skip a beat every time I use it. A splurge I regret is definitely the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Cloud. For every day use it just doesn't work for me unless I'm doing a full face of foundation as well, which is almost never. It's too cakey for what I enjoy on a day to day basis, falls into my creases, and its the highlight level of lightness for my skintone instead of just concealing. I do use it for cosplay and full beat looks, and have even recently taken to mixing a bit of it with my morning moisturizer for a DIY tinted moisturizer, but all in all wish I hadn't spent the money. Once it's complete I'll be going back to my faithful Kaja concealer.
one thing im glad i bought was dip brow, i got mine in 2017 and at first i didnt like it. but instead of buying something else something “better” i really made it work for me, i use a tiny amount on a small brush and abstaining from other brow products really made me think about what i want from my brows! which isnt a whole lot!
i had the same exact experience about brow products not lasting long enough so i just switched to brown eyeliner and eyeshadow with a small brush and have never been happier
there is a flipside. Splurging on affordable thgs and regretting it somewhat for various reasons. Nymah Tangs new lipsticks sent me in2 a duping tailspin (Dose of Colours has left the UK) and parallel to this I went on the hunt for new brushes... Time researching and money I'll never get back 🙄
I think it is a shag, I specifically asked for a "gentle shag" that's as far away from a mullet as it's possible to get while still being a shag. The shaggy mullet looks amazing on many people, but I don't think it would suit me!
i love the dior powder foundation as it is refillable too, so it becomes quite economical. also one of my favorite perfumes is refillable, at lease in europe: angel, which also lowers price per ounce. plus it does have a feel good aspect as less waste
Huge regrets over the dior soft cashmere eyeshadow palette, especially because I do not want to own lots of make up and was hoping that it would be my go-to everyday palette. Too much glitter for daily use and the colours all blend into gray. My little catrice palettes are much more versatile.
I love this dirty grungy look you have going on! Also making me consider going back to curly shag bangs, even though I totally regretted it the first time, haha 🤔
You mentioned that you’d missed the Lisa Eldridge blush launch, and just to let you know, I would say the formula is similar to Glossier cloud paint. And Glossier Storm is equidistant between Venetian Red and Dante’s Dream, but with much nicer packaging.
One of my kjear weiss compacts broke! I didn’t love the formula so haven’t bought any refills. I have rarely repurchased a product other than sunscreen or some Nars eyeshadows I love. I bought into the Roen hype and didn’t like the shadows at all. I did love their double ended eyeshadow brush and bought a second one.
My biggest splurges have been the 1st 3 Roen quads, 5 of the 14 pan palettes from Sigma and the bundle of 5 pans that Dose of Colors had. In the long run Roen wasn't worth it for me. I don't love all the glitter. I do really like the 11:11 palette though and may repurchase it when it goes off. DoC is and isn't worth it. It lays a foundation of mattes for me in neutral, cool, coral, berry and mauve tones which does make it worth it to me because it helps me stop myself from buying pops of mauve, coral or berry but I don't use them all that often. Sigma is my new favorite. I adore the mattes and typically just want to use those palettes. I'd say at this point it has been worth it for me to own them.
I agree about that HD concealer. I have it. It is the only one that has matched me perfectly. I have purchased it twice because it seems bottomless for me and I don’t usually need a massive amount of it. Price per year has been $10 for me. Pretty great IMO. Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks are always a regret for me. Mercy, most of her products aren’t worth it for me. For others, they are “HG” products. Worth it for me has also been my Koh Gen Do Foundation which lasts me a full year. I don’t know why my skin thinks it is utter perfection. Other things also work, but I purchased two bottles on clearance and it was such a win. Good enough that I may pay full price when it is over. I never pay full price. 😆
I'm also curious if there are expensive items you were gifted or sent in PR and how you feel about them, if you would consider spending your own money on them or not, like the Kevyn Aucoin neo-bronzer!
I don't understand why anyone thinks they have to use all of a product to get the money's worth of it. Brands constantly throwing new products our way, how could we possible use up everything? Its ok if I move on to a different product & if I use the other one agsin cool If I don't I loved it while I used it. Makeup gives me such joy even if I just look at it & don't get a chance to use. I don't consider it a waste. If I had to use up all of a product I might miss another great product. I never want to stress if I purchase a product & don't finish it.
4me it's worth splurging on foundation bc 1oz lasts me at least a year even if it's the only foundation I wear,it's definitely not worth splurging on a makeup product u have2 replace every month, but if it's a complexion product like foundation & u wear it all the time & u only have2 buy a new 1 once or twice a year then it's usually worth the price 4me.
I like the bobbi brown crushed lip!! I am lucky because I don't really have a budget. , so maybe that's why the price of something isn't much of a concern to me. I choose things that are cool and work for me! Plus I'm super particular because I am experienced and wise. =)
Loved this video! What is the Elf product dupe you mentioned for the Bobbi Brown crushed lipstick? I'm just starting to venture into the world of lipstick and would be very interested!
it's called the Sheer Slick Lipstick! It's not an exact dupe (more sheer, more glossy) but it's similarly a hybrid lippie. I have the color Golden Pear and I like it a lot.
I kind of regret two of my three CT palettes. Desert Haze is great companion palette but I might have been better off waiting and picking up Mario's mattes (pretty sure CT came out first). I end up using ND mini nude for same matte shades anyway. The other is LE holiday last year bejeweled eyes to hypnotise. I got FOMO on the quality but rhe color story doesn't inspire me much.
I think you can take back the “no such thing as a holy grail” thought. It’s ok to change your mind and grow as a person and admit that your concealer is your HG. When it comes to skin care & makeup, I only buy HGs. The only reason something new joins the crew is when it’s a gift or a replacement for a discontinued product.
Y do we love buying high-end makeup so much,my mom & sister both jus get L'Oreal foundation & the rest of ther makeup from the drugstore,& they can't relate 2 my interest or fascination with it
Okay. IDK if this is a YT app thing, or not, but I'm always hearing creators say to search for their reviews on their individual channel's search bar. However, when I do this, the results are no different from searching on the regular YT search bar. Does this happen to anyone else?
Am I the only one that sits alone preening in the reflect of their device grooming with shiny goop that wonders if they inhabit the role of one the 'beautiful rats' in the experiments testing civilizational decline theories?

Some products are just like that, aren’t they? It’s so nice when we can find them.

Oooo I want to do this vid now! Also, I love that sweater
Question: would the salt new york pans fit in the kjaer weis compact??
I don't understand why anyone thinks they have to use all of a product to get the money's worth of it. Brands constantly throwing new products our way, how could we possible use up everything? Its ok if I move on to a different product & if I use the other one agsin cool
If I don't I loved it while I used it. Makeup gives me such joy even if I just look at it & don't get a chance to use. I don't consider it a waste. If I had to use up all of a product I might miss another great product. I never want to stress if I purchase a product & don't finish it.
Hannah, when are we going to get a plant 🪴 tour??
4me it's worth splurging on foundation bc 1oz lasts me at least a year even if it's the only foundation I wear,it's definitely not worth splurging on a makeup product u have2 replace every month, but if it's a complexion product like foundation & u wear it all the time & u only have2 buy a new 1 once or twice a year then it's usually worth the price 4me.
Thanks, Hannah!

Thank you ♥️
I like the bobbi brown crushed lip!! I am lucky because I don't really have a budget. , so maybe that's why the price of something isn't much of a concern to me. I choose things that are cool and work for me! Plus I'm super particular because I am experienced and wise. =)
How about the rituel de fille blush? It s rather splurgy. I am trying to use mine more lately
@@HannahLouisePoston wow! Thank you so much. I'll definitely have to check that out!
regrets? Fenty snap palettes and Natasha denona mini palettes (retro, star). Other things just are amazing....looking at you NARS base products...!
Just discovered your channel, your content is very interesting and refreshing ! For me I bought a liquid luminizer from Chanel and I regret nothing 😂
I’m early! 🤩
Love your top! Details please
If I could find the perfect concealer, I’d pay $50 for it!
I think that's desktop v phone app

Okay but you never did show use all the stuff you bought in April with your budget.
Am I the only one that sits alone preening in the reflect of their device grooming with shiny goop that wonders if they inhabit the role of one the 'beautiful rats' in the experiments testing civilizational decline theories?
