The most disrespect that I've seen for ZB1'S vocals has been towards Hanbin, in my experience, as people don't think he's a good vocalist at all or only worthy of a Sub-Vocalist title. It hasn't been long since the group was announced, so I'm positive this won't last and fans will move on. Especially if Jay debuts in another group, or ZB1 drops some vocal covers to shut haters up. 👍🏽

Hwanhee's KTL main vocal part sounded pretty strained compared to ZH, but it turned out he performed KTL in a bad voice condition. He's originally an outstanding vocalist.

why are you discrediting taerae vocal. He literally has a better support range than hao and hao is weak in his mid range. Taerae also has a cleaner approach

Hao has the wider range with his lower register but Taerae has the fuller and grounded support especially in the mixed range. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses.
Seungeon being this young but already has sm potential. It would've been a great addition to the group's vocal line if he debuted, but it is what it is. I can only imagine his further growth, esp when he debuts, in which I hope will happen. Really looking forward to what the future holds for him!
I admit that Jay has average vocal range, but why I feel most satisfy every time Jay sings😭 He always gives me big impact with his vocal. Also, Rush Hour, LMR, and Over Me got viral with reasons 😏
I honestly agree with you, his singing is so satisfying! I think, it's because of his singing style and voice color. His voice kinda reminds me D.O (he is my fav vocalist) which is a plus for me. Also i love his vibrato.
His vocal tone is appealing and he has artistry, he knows how to sound good, which is not the same to sing well, but for a lot of people that does it just fine

i watched your nct videos and wasn't expecting a bp one haha. looks like zb1 vocals will be fine :) shame hwanhee couldn't showcase his full ability, hope he's recovering and doing better now. hui really is the best on the show. zhang hao probably took vocal lessons and his low notes are so nice, i read somewhere chinese songs have a lot of them so he probably got to practice them more.
I’m excited to see if zb1 members develop. I feel like they actually have a chance because they have a music teacher as a member, but a temporary group schedule is super hectic so they might not have time to focus on it. One thing I don’t really get is for Taerae, you said one weakness is he’s too chesty above G4, but then the next weakness is that he signs too soft. I kinda thought soft approach/light mix and strong approach/chesty mix are the same, could you explain? What does soft mean? Also, I feel like he sings things very “slowly”, do you know what that phenomenon is called?
8:30 and the clip right after are him singing softly. Notice how his voice has like an almost 'fragile' and more quiet quality to it in these two clips and that he doesn't try to project as much, as opposed to the ones like in Man In Love performance for example, where he sounds louder and clearer.

It's sad because Produce 101 Season 1 had so many great vocalists and IOI was such a strong group with Sejeong (her and Juna the best vocalists out of all Produce seasons methinks) and Yeonjung and each female season gets weaker and weaker. Kim Taerae has almost the same tonality and voice type (relatively darker light tenor) as Jaehyun; they are both mid average-tier vocalist as well. Taerae is stronger, no? Jaehyun has the better lows, though.
Taerae does sound like Jaehyun sometimes lol. I do think he is stronger too. Taerae puts more effort in his F#4~G4 as opposed to Jaehyun, who is most of the time quite soft and doesn't really try to belt all out lol. But yeah, Jaehyun has the stronger lows.
I am still in surprise 2trainees of yuehua entertainment in average tier cause seeing everglow makes me wonder why yuehua is not giving them vocal lessons atleast give some vocal lesson to sihyeon and mia
Eh i doubt it's the Yuehua vocal training that makes Seungeon and Zhang Hao average. It's most likely that they were already trained prior to being scouted/trainees. Both Seungeon and Zhang Hao already had the basics down basee on their older videos. (Seungeon already sounded average in his school clips + Zhang Hao was a vocal/music teacher(?) or was training to be one)
Jay's voice color and style is so unique, he puts so much emotion everytime he sings. I just feel like he has his own way to approach songs, even when he is covering someone else's song it sounds like his own. To me that's the most important, someone who can make you feel the song with his voice. It goes beyond technical aspects or range.
If yuehua is smart enough so they should put seungeon in tempest as he suits their concepts and tempest will have a good main vocalist and hyuk can be lead vocalist
That would mean Tempest would actually have a balanced vocal line. With Seungeon being Average, Hyuk being Weak to Average, and Hanbin being Weak. I would stan Tempest even more if Seungeon was in that group.

i'm agree with admin...he's definitely a tenor just not the usual light tenor we always hear in kpop...there's some dark and heaviness to his timbre...but his resonance and passagio still sit quite high for him to be a baritone
Hui did say he was intimidated by Jay and saw him as a rival when they sang the same part, so people probably went off of that. I think it just shows Hui sees the potential in Jay
I think the pre-debut material did a bit injustice to Jay's runs precision, somehow I feel like he did way better, if not the best among contestants, in BP time. And he cooperate runs and little grace note in the singing shows how great his musicality is (like Love Me Right high note in training session, he added quite a few grace note but not too much making it sounds so HIM and better). I would agree he has a straining problem above F4 and a bit pitch problem (more like he lacks in interval precision), but as a stylistic singer, he is not technically too bad (ofc we have D.O. as a perfect example of not sacrificing technique over style). I hope he can have a nice vocal coach coz I see HUGE potential in him with his immense musicality, with some help in the technique he will be a MONSTER.

I think you all are being so generous with labeling some idols as agile. In fact, there are only a handful of Korean vocalists who are truly agile or semi-agile, and none of them are technically weak.

Seungeon is horribly robbed yes. Hui is a strong vocalist no doubt but I don't like the idea of already debuted trainee in the final lineup. He already has Pentagon. Let's give the other trainees time to shine. Jay is meh, he's not even a strong vocalist. Doesn't really add much to the vocal line. Phanbin would be better. Better vocalist + performer + dancer overall

They're around the same level but i give Taerae an edge for having a cleaner and fuller mix all the way up to F#4. But Zhang Hao is more reliable on G4 and has better lows

He lacks material afaik. The only good singing material we had in the show from him is En Garde but he was mostly singing quite high in that for me to judge him properly. He does have some grasp of support though. So probably around Gunwook or lower
I will say he is probably around a high weak or lower weak average. He had a grand total of one decent clip from under19 which made me question if he even supported but it is obvious that he has improved since especially after seeing en garde.

No hate to the video creator! This video is very well made, and I am happy to see some predebut clips that I hadn't seen before. It's just that lately, I find that Kpop stans relying on this tier system in the first place has become detrimental nowadays, to be honest. At first, it felt like a fun stats for nerds thing. But nowadays, it's often used to just cause arguments and fights in different fandoms. It's also inherently flawed considering support is just one aspect of singing, and the tiers are largely based around that aspect of vocal pedagogy. And finally, it perpetuates the myth that strained notes lack support, when that isn't always the case. It's amusing to see budding ZB1 stans claim that anyone but Hui wouldn't have added anything to the group vocally when 1) y'all didn't vote for him and the majority of BP stans had every ageist excuse as to why, and 2) if literally any other candidate in vocal F4 debuted, yoi'd be saying the same thing. I hate that people are downgrading ZB1's assumed vocal line, as I love SHanbin, Zhang Hao, TaeRae, Gunwook, and Ricky as Vocalists. And TaeRae and Zhang Hao especially were always two of the best vocalists on the show! That doesn't mean you have to fight fire with fire. The Vocal F4 of the show with Hui, Jay, Seungeon and TaeRae were pushed for a reason. They were valued as Vocal F4 because they represents the different approaches that are seen in Kpop for Main Vocalists; Hui is the technical vocalist; Jay is the stylistic vocalist; Seungeon is the belter; TaeRae is the old school or ballad type. So while it's usually style over technique, sometimes it's not, especially in pop music. It's not hard to acknowledge that while being respectful. However, ZB1's vocal line is EXCELLENT. I'm positive that they will more than prove haters wrong at debut, I'm sure. 😉 We shouldn't use this tier system as a catch all to determine whether a Vocalist is worthy of praise or not. Kpop stans be respectful while stating their opinions challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) - as is displayed in some of these comments lol Just a rant because stans are annoying. Good video 👍🏽
that wasn’t why they weren’t added both Zhanghao and Hanbin weren’t pushed as main vocalist because they were seen as all rounders/center materials. If hao pushed himself from the start as main vocal he would be up there
@@userello-x5h I disagree...partially. The Centerz (TM pending lol) chose to push themselves as centers just as much as Mnet. Even still, they always had prominent vocal roles, if not as a lead or main vocalist. So if they were going to be included as Vocal F4, they could've. I think putting it all down to Mnet doesn't match with how they chose to represent themselves, even if Hao in particular is Main Vocalist worthy, is a dishonest in that they also chose to represent themselves that way. As well, both Zhang Hao and Hanbin were main vocalists at different points in the show. And regardless of whether or not they would've pushed themselves as solely main vocalists from the beginning, I truly don't think they would've dethroned Jay and Seungeon from their positions in Vocal F4 during their time on the show... Unless Mnet had chosen not to highlight Jay or Seungeon at all over them in the first place. Part of why Jay and Seungeon were so appealing as main vocalists, not only to the shows editors but also to the other contestants, was the qualities that I mentioned above in my original comment. Those are qualities SHanbin and Zhang Hao chose not to showcase. If Hao had showcased something like that earlier, I do agree that he could've joined them, so that's why my disagreement is only partial! However, Hao IS still main vocal worthy regardless of whether he was pushed more as one or not.

This is a ranking of vocal technique with an emphasis on physical development and coordination, aka the most basic and essential element of proper vocalization. You're acting like support is some minor nuance when it forms the basis of all those other things you listed. Let me know of a vocalist who has good belts or runs but no support, I'll be waiting.

The definition of support when singing varies in wording from source to source, but it is generally agreed upon that to support is to sing without effort, or maintain proper breathing while singing. That is literally it. The way Kpop stans have redefined support in these arguments, in their efforts to repeatedly compete with one another in a never ending "my bias is better than your bias" contest, is to to assume it can only occur without tension or strain, or even conflate it with resonance, and they tend to think singers with a chestier mix or approach support more than singers with a lighter mix. But that's not how it works in any professional setting, as support is essential to singing in general. If you're basing it on just physical development and coordination, when has Jay not had that?. When has any person on this list not had that? Give me some examples. In regards to your question, there are no singers with good belts or runs without support because you quite literally can't sing without it. For example, take Doha singing My House for his audition (no sense of breathe support in sight) vs Doha singing with proper support in "Not Love, Spring, or Cherry Blossoms" (singing very comfortably with proper breathe support). He can't sing My House because he cannot maintain his breathing that high, but he can sing comfortably in his lower range with proper breathe support.

There are plenty of channels that analyze vocalists subjectively based on how much they like them or how stable they are while performing. You can find those channels
Cool video and I get what you’re trying to do here, but this is hardly correct 😅 I like that Hao’s vocals are highlighted here tho, I think people give him less credit than what he’s due. He sounds pleasant in his comfortable range, though his belting technique is quite poor. Similar with Taerae I would say, but Hao’s vocals are generally more dynamic based on what I’ve seen from them both. Jay is definitely not 9th, if what you mean is that he is the overall 9th-strongest vocalist on the show 😅

It seems like this ranking is mostly based on an ascending order of supported range? Which is why it all depends on the basis in which you’re ranking these trainees. I personally think support does not entirely determine how good of a vocalist one is so that’s why I think this video is not correct. There’s really a lot of other factors that should be factored in when evaluating how good of a vocalist one is, like breath control, placement, restraint, dynamics, range, just to name a few. And I’m not sure how these are factored in into this ranking, which is why I think this ranking is leaning more towards preference than actual technique. Since you’ve brought Jay up, I’ve definitely heard and seen him sing with proper support at a higher range, and he’s one of the strongest at executing riffs and runs on the show from what I’ve seen, so I was kinda confused at that point. I understand also that materials might be limited when you were putting these together, but some of these clips are more than 3 years old, so some of these contestants have improved and are definitely better than what was showcased here.

The thing is, all of these things you mention are interconnected to breath support, which is the main thing used to judge a vocalist. You can't have dynamics if you struggle with basic breath support. and Jay included. He doesn't really engage his diaphragm enough. You can hear how he takes shallow breaths, not having a proper smooth legato and noticeable intonation issues which are the result of having improper breath support. He is also very reliant on his throat when singing, which is just very damaging to the vocal cords. Just hear how gritty he sounds the higher he ascends. He isn't going to be ranked higher than any of the people above him when they actually engage their diaphragm more and are strictly healthier in their approach. Most of these clips are new and if it's not, either they lack materials, or their newer materials aren't as good or their technique haven't changed much (hui, hwanhee, etc.)
Oops sorry I meant to say 2 years or more - 3 years is definitely too long to evaluate an individual especially if they’re trainees where a lot of changes to their voice can be expected. I think the ones for Gunwook were from 2021 if I’m not wrong and personally I think his vocals improved since then. You’re not wrong to say breath support is key to a good vocalist and it’s linked with some other aspects of singing, but not really at the same time. Support is largely associated with the quality of the sound produced by the singer, and it’s hardly related to things like how well a singer mixes between registers, or operates vowel placements, or executes melismas, for example. Those things are also vocal skills that are quite separate from breath support, which I see present in some the trainees you ranked lower here but quite absent in the ones ranked higher. I like to analyse vocal abilities and techniques myself so I’ve seen a lot of materials from all these trainees, and I would personally rank Jay and Seungeon higher. Those 2 along with Hui and Hwanhee are imo the strongest vocalists on the show because of how they generally sound, and what they can do with their vocal instruments. Hao and Taerae are good too but their vocabulary is noticeably limited. Jay relying much on the throat is mostly something of the past, and from what he’s shown recently he’s significantly better. He sounds a lot more open and relaxed now than the days when he was singing covers on live streams, though I do see some issues with consistency - I personally think that’s his biggest issue now. Not sure what you saw to think that he cannot execute runs properly because he’s arguably one of the best at it on the show. One of his biggest strengths is literally melismatic singing, and I dare say not even Hui or Hwanhee can execute them like he can.

Lol with technique like theirs, of course they know a lot about singing. 😂 Don't take these rankings so seriously. They only really take into account one aspect of technique (support) when that is far from the only asset a singer should have in their arsenal.

Without physical development in those phonation muscles and a proper breathing basis, there is very little a singer can do. Their definition of supported range merely includes their estimated width of it for each vocalist mentioned. And yet Jay has demonstrated, likely both on and off camera if he's getting complimentary comments like those from professionals, that he does indeed utilize those muscles properly and can do quite a lot with his voice. Plus, I also take issue with the fact that they regarded his use of growls and runs as "messy," but only included pre-debut clips of him using those skills when he had ample material both on the show and with more recent performances demonstrating better use of them.

Then why is Nmixx Lily only Above Average when she has almost the same supported range as Kim Yeonji, who is almost in the Good tier lol? The development within the supported range is more important than its extent, it's just that extent is almost always somewhat correlated with development. Again, support encompasses some of the most basic and fundamental elements of vocalization. The reason that there isn't a further mention of more advanced skills like agility and dynamics is simply because these average and below singers lack the refinement to show anything noteworthy in those departments. We generally do not hear much impressive ornamentation until at least the above average tier of development.
I don't know what system is used, but the rankings feel extremely off to me. And if you're going to review Boys Planet then only use moments from Boys Planet to keep it fair. Some of the more popular well-known singers just didn't do as well on this show as everyone would've hoped to. The rankings were already off to me when I saw the real #1 being ranked #9 here. And yes: I am vocally trained for 10+ years. I think we need to stop vocalists based on their supported range only and start looking at ALL elements of singing. There's much more beyond just supporting a note.
When has this ranking ever been been just about supported range? Taerae is literally higher than Zhang Hao here despite having a smaller supported range because guess what? All relevant elements of singing are taken into consideration. And no, breath support is basically the fundamental to singing. It basically encompasses everything from pitch, intonation, tonal quality, agility, air flow, etc. You can't convince me Mr. #9 here is better than everyone when he lacks even the most basic aspect of singing. "And if you're going to review Boys Planet then only use moments from Boys Planet to keep it fair" This is such a bad argument. One of them literally only has one performance in the whole show how are you going to use that to judge someone. Them not having good moments in the show does not take away their general abilities. Some people can have bad moments/eras. Imagine if Jay's only performance was his 2 lines in Jelly Pop. He probably won't even see a light in these rankings.
Hanbin sounded fine. 1:56 The F4s are supported. He just needs to be less soft. 2:35, 3:10 very pushy Bb4, especially on the second one. But I like the F4 there on the second one (the note was Bb4 - G4 - F4) and the quick G4 carried support. Hao didn't have any good lines to showcase his vocals lol.

The most disrespect that I've seen for ZB1'S vocals has been towards Hanbin, in my experience, as people don't think he's a good vocalist at all or only worthy of a Sub-Vocalist title.
It hasn't been long since the group was announced, so I'm positive this won't last and fans will move on. Especially if Jay debuts in another group, or ZB1 drops some vocal covers to shut haters up. 👍🏽

Hwanhee's KTL main vocal part sounded pretty strained compared to ZH, but it turned out he performed KTL in a bad voice condition. He's originally an outstanding vocalist.

Hao has the wider range with his lower register but Taerae has the fuller and grounded support especially in the mixed range. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

I honestly agree with you, his singing is so satisfying! I think, it's because of his singing style and voice color. His voice kinda reminds me D.O (he is my fav vocalist) which is a plus for me. Also i love his vibrato.

i watched your nct videos and wasn't expecting a bp one haha. looks like zb1 vocals will be fine :) shame hwanhee couldn't showcase his full ability, hope he's recovering and doing better now. hui really is the best on the show. zhang hao probably took vocal lessons and his low notes are so nice, i read somewhere chinese songs have a lot of them so he probably got to practice them more.
I’m excited to see if zb1 members develop. I feel like they actually have a chance because they have a music teacher as a member, but a temporary group schedule is super hectic so they might not have time to focus on it.
One thing I don’t really get is for Taerae, you said one weakness is he’s too chesty above G4, but then the next weakness is that he signs too soft. I kinda thought soft approach/light mix and strong approach/chesty mix are the same, could you explain? What does soft mean? Also, I feel like he sings things very “slowly”, do you know what that phenomenon is called?
8:30 and the clip right after are him singing softly. Notice how his voice has like an almost 'fragile' and more quiet quality to it in these two clips and that he doesn't try to project as much, as opposed to the ones like in Man In Love performance for example, where he sounds louder and clearer.

Kim Taerae has almost the same tonality and voice type (relatively darker light tenor) as Jaehyun; they are both mid average-tier vocalist as well. Taerae is stronger, no? Jaehyun has the better lows, though.
Taerae does sound like Jaehyun sometimes lol. I do think he is stronger too. Taerae puts more effort in his F#4~G4 as opposed to Jaehyun, who is most of the time quite soft and doesn't really try to belt all out lol. But yeah, Jaehyun has the stronger lows.

Eh i doubt it's the Yuehua vocal training that makes Seungeon and Zhang Hao average. It's most likely that they were already trained prior to being scouted/trainees. Both Seungeon and Zhang Hao already had the basics down basee on their older videos. (Seungeon already sounded average in his school clips + Zhang Hao was a vocal/music teacher(?) or was training to be one)

I just feel like he has his own way to approach songs, even when he is covering someone else's song it sounds like his own. I think the pre-debut material did a bit injustice to Jay's runs precision, somehow I feel like he did way better, if not the best among contestants, in BP time. And he cooperate runs and little grace note in the singing shows how great his musicality is (like Love Me Right high note in training session, he added quite a few grace note but not too much making it sounds so HIM and better). I would agree he has a straining problem above F4 and a bit pitch problem (more like he lacks in interval precision), but as a stylistic singer, he is not technically too bad (ofc we have D.O. as a perfect example of not sacrificing technique over style). I hope he can have a nice vocal coach coz I see HUGE potential in him with his immense musicality, with some help in the technique he will be a MONSTER.

I do agree he got some sloppy runs in the video but what I say is he improved a lot in Boys Planet period and from what I heard from his material in Boys Planet, he executes runs quite well.
I think you all are being so generous with labeling some idols as agile. In fact, there are only a handful of Korean vocalists who are truly agile or semi-agile, and none of them are technically weak.

He lacks material afaik. The only good singing material we had in the show from him is En Garde but he was mostly singing quite high in that for me to judge him properly. He does have some grasp of support though. So probably around Gunwook or lower

I will say he is probably around a high weak or lower weak average. He had a grand total of one decent clip from under19 which made me question if he even supported but it is obvious that he has improved since especially after seeing en garde.

No hate to the video creator! This video is very well made, and I am happy to see some predebut clips that I hadn't seen before.
It's just that lately, I find that Kpop stans relying on this tier system in the first place has become detrimental nowadays, to be honest. At first, it felt like a fun stats for nerds thing. But nowadays, it's often used to just cause arguments and fights in different fandoms. It's also inherently flawed considering support is just one aspect of singing, and the tiers are largely based around that aspect of vocal pedagogy. And finally, it perpetuates the myth that strained notes lack support, when that isn't always the case.
It's amusing to see budding ZB1 stans claim that anyone but Hui wouldn't have added anything to the group vocally when 1) y'all didn't vote for him and the majority of BP stans had every ageist excuse as to why, and 2) if literally any other candidate in vocal F4 debuted, yoi'd be saying the same thing. I hate that people are downgrading ZB1's assumed vocal line, as I love SHanbin, Zhang Hao, TaeRae, Gunwook, and Ricky as Vocalists. And TaeRae and Zhang Hao especially were always two of the best vocalists on the show!
That doesn't mean you have to fight fire with fire. The Vocal F4 of the show with Hui, Jay, Seungeon and TaeRae were pushed for a reason. They were valued as Vocal F4 because they represents the different approaches that are seen in Kpop for Main Vocalists; Hui is the technical vocalist; Jay is the stylistic vocalist; Seungeon is the belter; TaeRae is the old school or ballad type. So while it's usually style over technique, sometimes it's not, especially in pop music. It's not hard to acknowledge that while being respectful.
However, ZB1's vocal line is EXCELLENT. I'm positive that they will more than prove haters wrong at debut, I'm sure. 😉 We shouldn't use this tier system as a catch all to determine whether a Vocalist is worthy of praise or not. Kpop stans be respectful while stating their opinions challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) - as is displayed in some of these comments lol

that wasn’t why they weren’t added both Zhanghao and Hanbin weren’t pushed as main vocalist because they were seen as all rounders/center materials. If hao pushed himself from the start as main vocal he would be up there
@@userello-x5h I disagree...partially. The Centerz (TM pending lol) chose to push themselves as centers just as much as Mnet. Even still, they always had prominent vocal roles, if not as a lead or main vocalist. So if they were going to be included as Vocal F4, they could've. I think putting it all down to Mnet doesn't match with how they chose to represent themselves, even if Hao in particular is Main Vocalist worthy, is a dishonest in that they also chose to represent themselves that way.
As well, both Zhang Hao and Hanbin were main vocalists at different points in the show. And regardless of whether or not they would've pushed themselves as solely main vocalists from the beginning, I truly don't think they would've dethroned Jay and Seungeon from their positions in Vocal F4 during their time on the show... Unless Mnet had chosen not to highlight Jay or Seungeon at all over them in the first place. Part of why Jay and Seungeon were so appealing as main vocalists, not only to the shows editors but also to the other contestants, was the qualities that I mentioned above in my original comment. Those are qualities SHanbin and Zhang Hao chose not to showcase. If Hao had showcased something like that earlier, I do agree that he could've joined them, so that's why my disagreement is only partial!
However, Hao IS still main vocal worthy regardless of whether he was pushed more as one or not.

This is a ranking of vocal technique with an emphasis on physical development and coordination, aka the most basic and essential element of proper vocalization. In what world are you going to have good midbelts or agility without first developing proper breathing and physical coordination in the phonation muscles lmao? You're acting like support is some minor nuance when it forms the basis of all those other things you listed. Let me know of a vocalist who has good belts or runs but no support, I'll be waiting.

The definition of support when singing varies in wording from source to source, but it is generally agreed upon that to support is to sing without effort, or maintain proper breathing while singing. That is literally it. The way Kpop stans have redefined support in these arguments, in their efforts to repeatedly compete with one another in a never ending "my bias is better than your bias" contest, is to to assume it can only occur without tension or strain, or even conflate it with resonance, and they tend to think singers with a chestier mix or approach support more than singers with a lighter mix. But that's not how it works in any professional setting, as support is essential to singing in general.
If you're basing it on just physical development and coordination, when has Jay not had that?. When has any person on this list not had that? Give me some examples.
In regards to your question, there are no singers with good belts or runs without support because you quite literally can't sing without it. For example, take Doha singing My House for his audition (no sense of breathe support in sight) vs Doha singing with proper support in "Not Love, Spring, or Cherry Blossoms" (singing very comfortably with proper breathe support). He can't sing My House because he cannot maintain his breathing that high, but he can sing comfortably in his lower range with proper breathe support.

There are plenty of channels that analyze vocalists subjectively based on how much they like them or how stable they are while performing. You can find those channels

Cool video and I get what you’re trying to do here, but this is hardly correct 😅 I like that Hao’s vocals are highlighted here tho, I think people give him less credit than what he’s due. He sounds pleasant in his comfortable range, though his belting technique is quite poor. Similar with Taerae I would say, but Hao’s vocals are generally more dynamic based on what I’ve seen from them both. Jay is definitely not 9th, if what you mean is that he is the overall 9th-strongest vocalist on the show 😅

It seems like this ranking is mostly based on an ascending order of supported range? Which is why it all depends on the basis in which you’re ranking these trainees. I personally think support does not entirely determine how good of a vocalist one is so that’s why I think this video is not correct. There’s really a lot of other factors that should be factored in when evaluating how good of a vocalist one is, like breath control, placement, restraint, dynamics, range, just to name a few. And I’m not sure how these are factored in into this ranking, which is why I think this ranking is leaning more towards preference than actual technique.
Since you’ve brought Jay up, I’ve definitely heard and seen him sing with proper support at a higher range, and he’s one of the strongest at executing riffs and runs on the show from what I’ve seen, so I was kinda confused at that point. I understand also that materials might be limited when you were putting these together, but some of these clips are more than 3 years old, so some of these contestants have improved and are definitely better than what was showcased here.

Not necessarily. Stronger vocalists generally have bigger supported range but that is not the main factor of it. Zhang Hao has a bigger supported range than Taerae but i put Taerae higher.

And this is exactly some of the criteria that are taken in consideration when ranking these vocalists. The thing is, all of these things you mention are interconnected to breath support, which is the main thing used to judge a vocalist. You can't have dynamics if you struggle with basic breath support. and Jay included. He doesn't really engage his diaphragm enough. You can hear how he takes shallow breaths, not having a proper smooth legato and noticeable intonation issues which are the result of having improper breath support. He is also very reliant on his throat when singing, which is just very damaging to the vocal cords. Just hear how gritty he sounds the higher he ascends. He isn't going to be ranked higher than any of the people above him when they actually engage their diaphragm more and are strictly healthier in their approach.

Like who for example? Most of these clips are new and if it's not, either they lack materials, or their newer materials aren't as good or their technique haven't changed much (hui, hwanhee, etc.)
Oops sorry I meant to say 2 years or more - 3 years is definitely too long to evaluate an individual especially if they’re trainees where a lot of changes to their voice can be expected. I think the ones for Gunwook were from 2021 if I’m not wrong and personally I think his vocals improved since then.
You’re not wrong to say breath support is key to a good vocalist and it’s linked with some other aspects of singing, but not really at the same time. Support is largely associated with the quality of the sound produced by the singer, and it’s hardly related to things like how well a singer mixes between registers, or operates vowel placements, or executes melismas, for example. Those things are also vocal skills that are quite separate from breath support, which I see present in some the trainees you ranked lower here but quite absent in the ones ranked higher. I like to analyse vocal abilities and techniques myself so I’ve seen a lot of materials from all these trainees, and I would personally rank Jay and Seungeon higher. Those 2 along with Hui and Hwanhee are imo the strongest vocalists on the show because of how they generally sound, and what they can do with their vocal instruments. Hao and Taerae are good too but their vocabulary is noticeably limited.
Jay relying much on the throat is mostly something of the past, and from what he’s shown recently he’s significantly better. He sounds a lot more open and relaxed now than the days when he was singing covers on live streams, though I do see some issues with consistency - I personally think that’s his biggest issue now. Not sure what you saw to think that he cannot execute runs properly because he’s arguably one of the best at it on the show. One of his biggest strengths is literally melismatic singing, and I dare say not even Hui or Hwanhee can execute them like he can.

Even if he does, it is still weak. He doesn't really have proper note separation and that is due to how weak his pitch accuracy is. This is top 10... Wumuti much lower actually but i believe he is w-a and support up to Eb4 with light heady mix when going higher and lost support and getting tight up to E4.

This video is interesting because Hui said Jay was the singer who made him feel intimidated the most also One Star SM’s vocal coach said Jay sang “밤 하늘을 너와내가“ better than he could. So it’s surprising Jay is so low on the list. But maybe Hui and Onestar don’t understand singing and music as much as the person who made this video.

Their definition of supported range merely includes their estimated width of it for each vocalist mentioned. And yet Jay has demonstrated, likely both on and off camera if he's getting complimentary comments like those from professionals, that he does indeed utilize those muscles properly and can do quite a lot with his voice.
Plus, I also take issue with the fact that they regarded his use of growls and runs as "messy," but only included pre-debut clips of him using those skills when he had ample material both on the show and with more recent performances demonstrating better use of them.

Again, support encompasses some of the most basic and fundamental elements of vocalization. The reason that there isn't a further mention of more advanced skills like agility and dynamics is simply because these average and below singers lack the refinement to show anything noteworthy in those departments. We generally do not hear much impressive ornamentation until at least the above average tier of development.

I don't know what system is used, but the rankings feel extremely off to me. And if you're going to review Boys Planet then only use moments from Boys Planet to keep it fair. Some of the more popular well-known singers just didn't do as well on this show as everyone would've hoped to. The rankings were already off to me when I saw the real #1 being ranked #9 here. And yes: I am vocally trained for 10+ years. I think we need to stop vocalists based on their supported range only and start looking at ALL elements of singing. There's much more beyond just supporting a note.

All relevant elements of singing are taken into consideration. And no, breath support is basically the fundamental to singing. It basically encompasses everything from pitch, intonation, tonal quality, agility, air flow, etc. You can't convince me Mr. #9 here is better than everyone when he lacks even the most basic aspect of singing.

Hanbin sounded fine. 1:56 The F4s are supported. He just needs to be less soft. 2:35, 3:10 very pushy Bb4, especially on the second one. But I like the F4 there on the second one (the note was Bb4 - G4 - F4) and the quick G4 carried support. Hao didn't have any good lines to showcase his vocals lol.
