I definetly agree with her. This is so on point 100%. This tradition is so sexist and messed up. Men rising above women, having so much privilege to cheat and marry so many wives, no wonder this generation a lot of divorcées out there. It don’t matter how good of a nyab you are, they’ll always give him the upper hand regardless of his ways. Don’t try and make her look bad when your sons are the ones who cheat and lie over and over again. Thank god this is America and this generation more women are speaking up for themselves. Sister you did the right thing. I’m pretty fortunate to have parents that love and support me on my decisions. This is the 20th century, everyone deserves the same respect. Hmong relatives and in laws will NEVER support the woman. It’s sad but hopefully our generation now will not follow the old Hmong folks footsteps. I once told my dad when my sisters got married to donate the money to the police academy instead of giving it to the uncles or relatives because they will never support and love someone else’s daughter.
As a husband and father to two beautiful daughters, I wouldn’t allow my son-in-laws to abuse my daughters. If one gets abused and comes to me for help, I will ask her for her decision not mine. Fathers and brothers should protect his daughters/sisters, especially in an abusing relationship and never force her to go back. Only US law will protect abusive relationship and never go to 18 clans.

Sister, I'm so proud of you for standing up for yourself. Loyalty has an expiration date. Hmong people need to change their old fashioned mindset and culture. Men cheat, women can cheat too. You do you. No need to worry about people's negative words. They only like you when you are good, rich and successful but when you're poor and struggling, nobody cares about you. My advise is to never ever consult marriage problems with the elders (cousin) unless you see no other options. Take care your own problems. Hmong marriage law only benefits men…don’t play with their system. And if you ( the woman) fight the system, you will be viewed as a bad person and they will completely cut tie with you from all future rituals. This is the hard truth and is coming from a man myself. In all seriousness, I agree we need to fix the Hmong marriage counseling system for future to come.
