As a metal head slowly getting into jazz can someone please educate me on this dilla beat stuff coz it’s fucking nasty Ik joe to play it but I wanna find more shit that has it on
Of course, first thing an at least half brained musician should do. In fact, this single take could spring drums for a hundred songs in the style of the keys guy.
Would've been even funnier if you threw the drummer out the house at the end (similar to the style of the Fresh Prince when Jazz gets thrown out by Uncle Phil). 😂
Gordon Christopher Tubo Some people call it drag but it’s more suitably known as a dilla swing. It’s not just sloppily dragging the beat, but rather playing quintuplets or septuplets, or other similar variations. Heaps of people do this, try Jacob Collier or Nubian Twist
Dude, is there a full version of this song? I need this in my life. The chord progression is beautiful, genius. And that late bass drum hit is perfection. I listen to literally just Metal, but I absolutely love this.
Is there such genre out there that's exactly like this? Like a lo-fi type vibe with aggressive jazzy drumming? Or artists for that matter? I think I like this type of stuff.
At that point it's just jazz fusion man. But let me name you an artist/song. Check this one out: Ralph Towner - Sand. Also check out Ralph Towner - Piscean Dance
Watched this 3yrs ago. And I’m back here again😂 But I gotta say, the drummer really killed the beginning of the song 1:33 sick!!😆🔥 Before he succumbed 😂
Dude, im a drummer from Singapore and all I wanna say is that I hope that your channel will hit a million subscribers soon as ur content is f****** amazing haha, cheers bro!
Love how well the point was conveyed, while at the same time, I KNOW this guy can chop. This is the first video I’ve seen of him, but as soon as he put that dirt on the beat with the glitchy hi- hat and kick 1:40, it was clear. Awesome video
As a composer, I can easily say the drummers that get in on everyone's good lists are the ones that perform how you tell them to perform. It's a job. Be a professional.
I always come back to this video at least 2x a week just because I crack up every time and as a bassist (and a diehard drum lover), your chops are inspiring asf zack 💕
😂👏🏼 this is great man. Way to make a valid point that drummers need to hear in a hilarious skit. I literally remember making those mistakes as a young drummer when I started gigging. There’s a time for chops but that’s usually in the practice room or with other drummers!
I busted out laughing before the first minute. You have a fantastic way to teach overplaying, and what I always need to remind myself when playing. If you practice too much on your own, you can get this way really fast. Nice drumming, and keys. Love your talent.
That's what I love about rock and metal. The drums are insane, but I've learned to appreciate almost every genre of music. Being a musician myself helps me respect that I think.
Damn I was also thinkin along to that groove about what would I play and well....i know this is obvious but you came up with a way way wayyyyy better groove than I did. I didn't comment to state the obvious but just to say I wish I had imagination like yours. I really have a long long way to go......
@Nick does Quad drumming I agree with you, the money from RUclips and when most channels grow they forget there roots and what made people like them in the first place I hope Zack stays the same but creative.
Now imagine going to school with EMC, like I did back in jersey lol. It was jokes upon jokes always! Funny dude. Talented as hell. Fast as the furious!
OMG so spot on! I use to love how other drummers thought they were the king shit but I would get the gig cause I would dumb it down. Probably because I wasn't worried about showing off to try and impress girls....for obvious reasons.
Yeah but now he's given you enough to chop and sample for that real J Dilla sound.

Literally everyone in the studio-workshop at my School lmao

Bro where tf did this guy come from 😂 you need to start dropping hip hop tracks
Doesn't mean anything if he doesn't play the song tho...
But yes, Zach's chops are insane
@@AMTunLimited but i think it fit very well actually
I wish my chops were like that on my mapex tornado 😂
1:45 that groove... omg - Also, both of these guys are god level musicians. Much respect
I'm a drummer myself and hate it when drummers overplay everything.
Lars Ulrich

@Outrageous Accent! dont u fuckin dare hold out on us right meow!!!
@Outrageous Accent! nah.. id agree with that with some of his performances..
1:26 there you go, repeat button

Someone should make an extended version of this beat
I think you meant 2:17
@@dorobokinoreal if a drummer did that to my track i would go wild cuz it’s so good
LMAO piano guy got his money's worth. Loop the earlier stuff, cut the chops in for fills
You.... Might have a point there
Of course, first thing an at least half brained musician should do.

Or replace the comma with a period right after the word stuff.
Not knocking his chops at all.

0:38 That piece deserves to be a complete song.
Frrr so uplifting
That beat at 02:00 he is playing with the "late bassdrum" ist fucking insane. Unbelievable
yeah that shits hard
I agree that went nuts.🤙🏽🤙🏽
Crisp as fuk.
Yeah the feel is sooooo nice

Yussef Kamaal got some insane riffs, Yussef Dayes too, hear "Yussef Dayes X Alfa Mist - Love Is The Message"
1:07 "Think of J. Dilla"
You earned a sub after knowing the legend of Jay Dee🔥
“We want you to play soft”
_You want me to play faster?!_
Exact opposite happens to me.
"Was that volume good?"
"Nah, all you did was cut the time signature in half. A for effort though."
and that's why I play in metal bands
Bro the consistency at which you fell perfectly behind the beat was nearly perfect. Killer. 🤘
That melody and drumming chops will always remind me how Thomas Pridgen would play lmao
Pridgen kinda ruined my good time at the Thundercat show in 2018 bc of constant overplaying

I can't be the only one who thought that at least some of the fills during his second run were pretty amazing and would actually improve the song.
thought the same
We need this song on spotify. Gotta be an awesome lofi song with drum that build up over time.
Bro those beats with that melody in the back was so good 💙
that snare pops dude uff
No cap but what Zack did at 0:40 sounds like an intro of an anime opening/ending it’s lit
He ain’t lyin’! Asking some drummers to “serve the song” is like asking them to fly like Superman.

Almost reminds me of a dry version of the snare from I fall apart by post mahlone
"Think of J Dilla" Is the best quote I've heard all year.

0:48 we need a full version of this one
Here I am waiting for this dudes channel to get to hundred thousand subs, cause he is just so good at drumming and the content too
"Brushes? How old are you?" Killed me XD
Moral of the story: music producers have bad taste.
Lol
But the songs not a drum solo
Michael_s000 ok music producer
ok cool but sometimes it takes away from the effect of the song
Sam Godzwa literally all modern music you listen to has been produced what are you even trying to say,
