  • If you want to paddle down the Coorong from Clayton Bay to Salt Creek and you have got half an hour to spare then this film will get you there.
The film follows George and Sue for an eight-day canoe camping adventure to paddle 131km from north to south of the Coorong past Mundoo Channel in Lake Alexandrina (freshwater); down Boundary Creek (freshwater before barrage and estuary after); and then through the northern Coorong lagoon (saltwater/estuary) and southern Coorong lagoon (hyper-saltwater); and up Salt Creek (freshwater, brackish).
The iconic Coorong wetland is at the end of Australia's largest river system and is rich with diverse birdlife, wildlife and environment which is hanging on despite the lengthening drought in the upper river catchment.
The area has a rich and timeless cultural history, meaning, and importance to the Tanganekald/Ngarrindjeri first nation people.
A detailed map of the paddle route and locations along the way can be found here on Google Maps

Thanks! 😊 this was brilliant, I really enjoyed watching it. I've been planning a paddle on my yak to do the Coorong length, but was wondering about a start point. Noticed that you guys finished at Salt Creek. I was hoping to start at Tea Tree and was contemplating the water depth in November? Might be too shallow?
Thanks for your awesome vid, absolutely fabulous! 👌💖

When planning a paddle trip and possible start from Tea Tree you could check the water levels using Water Connect. There is water level gauge in the south lagoon that feeds data for public access via Water Connect.

Water levels variable, wind has a large impact

      Thanks for that info.👌
Yeah, I know how bad the wind can be there, I live in the lakes area and it can be difficult working with the wind. I can't wait to get out there now! 😁

I haven’t found the route in its entirety written up in a guide book or National Parks web site and there isn’t much camping infrastructure, however it’s a good route to follow and paddling options for shorter trip on the Coorong well documented. Two easy portages for this route-one on Boundary Creek at the barrage and the other on a water flow regulation structure at Salt Creek.
