Why is it necessary to allow the slits to go down the looping pit? what is the main aim?

When the steel is slit, some end up longer then other cuts. If there is a defect in one cut that made its initial ID (Inner Diameter) larger then the others, there will be a difference in which that diameter of that cut will be bigger or smaller. I am a slitter operator in Wisconsin.

Where I work we put oily paper on at the takeoff.

Some of them have an oiler that sprays it near the end of them. Most hot roll p&o come with so much oil, really don't need to add more.

if you paid attention you'd see these are manual arbors...there's no "slit settings"...pause the video at 0:37 and you'll see the metal/beam tracks for it to slide left...also there are rubbers on them..so this is a single setup slitting line...which means you can't setup the next order while this one runs...also check at 1:12 the guy straightening the metal...there's no double spacers to keep the cuts straight before the recoiler which you can see at 1:40 and then 1:43 the cuts just *magically* went inside the recoiler...which pretty much means it was done by hand like everywhere else..but what's messed up is how there's no space for a person to get in there since that table doesn't retract and there's a pit right there for the buggy to carry the the coils from the recoiler to the arm...not a well thought design..
