In this video I weld the first plates onto the head tube area. And by request I talk a little more about why we moved from California East Bay to South Dakota.
South Dakota's a beautiful place with lots of great people. Glad it's working out for you. Really sad that the state took away the right of families to get life-saving care for their kids.
So I have watched your videos on frame building and I took a course in Michigan. We are currently in Tacoma at the end of our cycling tour across the US. We will be heading back to Ohio in a little over a week. We might be coming right through your area!
I think it’s fair to say we have different values, but I’m here for the frame building and your content has always been excellent in that regard. Great to see you back and glad you’ve found a home where you feel you fit - I think that’s all most people want, whatever their personal values might be ✌️❤
I am here for the bike stuff too. We have different values as well but I still appreciate what you do and I still want to watch your stuff. Whatever you value is for you and not my place. I do have a question though if you're willing, and feel free to ignore this if it's getting too far, but did i misunderstand your reasoning? Seems you wanted to go somewhere that supports people's individual values (aka yours for who you are) but are unwilling yourself to support other's who differ? Totally possible I misread this but that's what I took away from your explanation. Anyway, appreciate the honesty regardless, not many would do that sonits very refreshing.
Thanks for sticking around! To further explain - I’m not against anyone’s values. I understand that if I am able to have my own values, I therefore accept the different values of others. I’m against forced values. And that is why I left my job and ultimately CA. The values of most folks in CA are so strong that they do indeed become forced. An example is the Covid Vaccine mandate. Forcing a mandate is strongly against my values. Yet, nearly everyone in CA wanted it forced. I know because I was the only person at my company that refused to get the Covid vaccine. I was forced to sign paperwork and speak with an HR person about my reasons for not wanting the vaccine. That to me is heavy pressure to get vaccinated. There was always the undertone that I might be fired for not getting vaccinated. I then had to deal with everyone wearing a mask. It’s difficult when everyone believes they are on the right side of a value or ethics. That is why my most strong ethic is Freedom. Nobody should force or pressure someone else into something. The reason is because one can never truly know if their position is right. History has humbled us many times over when it comes to this. Yet we never learn.
I will run bolts through it and that will secure the severed head tube. The reason to sever the head tube is so that I can change the head tube angle for testing purposes.
Haha thank you! But honestly I’ve been losing subs since my last two videos and I don’t mind. The folks who stick around are worth a million to me than that one who leaves. ❤

Glad you found a place, where you can be, you. Good luck in the next chapter of your life. Look forward to seeing, you repurpose that dime store frame, into something unique and hopefully utilitarian.
You're awesome! It takes serious conviction and guts to openly express your views, especially in this day and age. My wife and I have lived in Ca for 61 years and we are done. We are selling everything and moving far away from this place. Ca is turning into a literal cesspool.
I am not really left- or right-wing; good to hear you're just a principled person, who can't be brow-beaten into conformity. Just glad to see you're still working on frames. That's all I'm here for. 👍
Based. I have a very similar story, leaving the North East for SC. I was able to get out early during covid, avoiding a lot of workplace nonsense. Let them know I sold my house and wouldn't be able to come back to the office and was eventually layoff off as well. Took the severance and the ridiculously generous unemployment benefits and ran. The company exploded over the 15 years i worked there, It became a much different place to work with all the new 'diversity' and was time to go. A hard decision that eventually became easy. I also took the time to get more serious about building my bikes (motorbikes) and living abroad. Maybe SD is the next stop... youre my soul mate...
You've made a lot of good decisions IMO. As someone with a similarly sized YT channel, I think you have a winning ticket. Just pump out this content regularly and the algorithm will catch you eventually. At the very least, you'll make more than enough for a nice life in the flyover state.
I admire your openness with your views, but I totally disagree. However, I will not unsubscribe, I'm here for the frame building. Maybe just have a disclaimer when it's political.
@@PithyBikes I do like gas powered, but I have the $300 Ego string trimmer with Powerload and Line IQ and would never buy a different trimmer in the future. You can load new line in about 10 seconds and you no longer have to bump the head to feed line. I got my mom the 8 lb ft mower and it's been just as good as the gas mower it replaced. I no longer have to clean her carburetor and change her oil which saves me time. Plus the mower is lightweight, folds up small, and can basically be put anywhere...even hang it on the wall. That said, when I go to buy a leaf blower or zero-turn it's all going to be powered with dinosaur syrup.
LOL. For many of us, leaving was/is the only option. And it should be noted that there are pockets in CA with very different views. CA is a huge state! But unfortunately, much of the policy is run by the cities. And there are so many forces at play in the cities, much of it not in the interest of the average person.
@@PithyBikesI've heard the same thing about Oregon ....there's actually a movement to split Oregon and the eastern 3/4 of the state will move in with Idaho lol 😂
@@Steelcrafted Haha, I'd love to see that! If CA split, maybe I wouldn't have moved that far. You can't beat the weather in CA. But in some ways, I embrace the cold cold winters in SD, it ensures that the people who move here really really want to move here.
And man, you made the right decision. I visited Cali pretty often over the last 4 or 5 years for work and it's really sad what it's become. SD is a nice place, decent folks just wanna live their lives. Live and let live, ya know? Welcome to the midwest, dude. It's nice here. :)
I'm just THRILLED youre back! Glad to hear you moved to a better situation - I'm not political at all, never voted, never registered, not even for Student Council in High School! But being born and raised in FL- my state has been over run by refugees and newcomers from All over (mostly up north) in the past 3+ years, the housing market is crazy, and theyre clearing land and building quick Apartments and Homes everywhere they possibly can! Might be time for us to get out too?
I would love your videos anyway whatever your views on lockdowns, woke etc, but am still delighted to learn that your head is screwed on the right way when it comes to all that nonsense. As for stickout and gas coverage I have found Furick Jazzy 10 cups to be a gamechanger. You can get away with much more than with a standard cup or even other gas lenses. Hardly ever need to break out the tin foil to try to trap Argon. Your hinge design looks awesome!
I hope you found your happiness. Good to see you back.

Have you lived here? Have you talked to the majority of families who live here about what they consider life saving care for their kids?
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. HONESTY IS A GREAT POLICY.
You love that folks in South Dakota don’t talk politics but then share your politics with a bike of frame building enthusiasts?
Talking about values is not political. And I’m not out here to please “frame building enthusiasts”.
@@PithyBikes newsflash bud that’s who watches the frame building videos. Might as well call it what it is and drop the coded talk.

Good to see you back sir! The frase “sometimes you just have to stick your tongue(sten) out” fits the video and story perfectly. 😊
welcome back
What is the purpose of the head tube bracket? Is it merely a gusset for strength?
An adjustable head tube (angle°)
I will run bolts through it and that will secure the severed head tube. The reason to sever the head tube is so that I can change the head tube angle for testing purposes.
I admire you even more now that I hear the way you think, and how you live by that.

Never mind, I made the last comment only half way through the video. Have you ever lived anywhere outside of California?
I grew up most of my childhood to young adult in MA.
