Manhattan at Large was a live televised show on public access Channel L hosted by various public servants highlighting issues around the city. It established an open dialogue between political figures, local organizations, community activists, and phone-in callers to discuss important topics and events that affected the lives of New Yorkers. In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re sharing episodes hosted by former council member and activist Miriam Friedlander. In this episode from 1978, Miriam brings together a diverse set of guests to celebrate the national plan of action for International Women’s Year, as well as discuss the complex issues faced by women of different ages, races, classes, and sexual orientations. Guests featured are Noreen Connell, President of the New York Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW), Adrienne Critchlou, International Representative of the Communication Workers of America, Connie Kopelov, Education Director of 1199, and Goldie Chu, member of the Asian American Women’s Caucus.
