Have been a solo traveller player since 1987, only got to run 1 game and play 1 game. I have been looking for a traveller stream to watch for a while now, and saw your first traveller video a while ago. Have been a fan of Seth for a bit longer. This is GREAT! Awesome work guys! This is by far the best traveller stream on the inter webs, and my favourite table top role playing stream I have ever had the good fortune to experience! Thank you very much team. ( PS, this is my very first you tube comment ever, and I am subscribed to only about a dozen channels, this one and Seth’s being two of them. ) ( I an an old gen- X internet lurker.)
@@AlansNewMutant Character creation is a mini game within the traveller rpg. Endless hour of fun can be had rolling up a crew for a spaceship, working out their connections and backstory. For us gear heads, designing spaceships is similarly satisfying, but actual solo gameplay is not that hard. I play by myself as a merchant captain, utilising random space encounter tables, and the more crunchy trade aspect of the game, struggling to make repayment and evenuallly pay off the ship, a simple version of the game without most of the high adventure I admit, but a fun one nevertheless in my opinion, but it isn’t for everyone. There are random tables for just about everything in traveller, and these can used to run a simple solo game if you use your imagination and let the dice determine the outcome.
So, they talk about a week in jump space, and then don't enter jump and are interrogated instead. I have to say, Matthew did a good job of using hooks from their character creation for this. Skid is very good turning on and off his accent and I love the rest of the crew as well. Great show, I will very happily continue to watch.

"I'm thirsty. Do you have any Kool-Aid?" Amazing! Alicia is slick. I misjudged her for a while, because of how expressive and colorful she is. The lady is subtle and has her references ready.
Agreed, she is an awesome role player, interested in the story more than the game mechanics, which is a perfect fit for traveller, and a lot of fun for us viewers!
I wholeheartedly agree, a game still supported by Marc Miler, who encourages every new version of his vision, and cudos to all his successors who remained faithful to that vision. We have decades of love for traveller, and words can’t describe how satisfying and vindicating it is to have this amazing crew doing this fantastic job for us. There a few other shows out there and I really try to like them as much, but in general the production quality makes it difficult. The production quality, the Obviously very talented GM Matt, and a very, very good cast of players ( including my hero Seth) makes this show a cut above everything else out there. I have a have a huge grin on my face in anticipation of each episode before I have even pressed play! And I have only seen 3 episodes! We need more, much more..
The X-boat pilots who are the messenger service for the Third Imperium typically take the jump time to learn any computer-teachable skill. I thought I was developing a crush on Skid. Then I realised that he was impersonating Oscar Isaac in Moonknight. He's not getting enough credit for that tremendous impersonation. Finally I realised that I was developing a crush on Skid. Also: great episode, great improv., and I can't wait for the next episode!
Knowing now that Puffer's little "ratted on my fellow criminals" was info Seth told Matthew but not the other players and how freaked out he was that it got brought up really makes it impressive that Seth managed to keep his cool and not even stutter the whole time.
This show is so good thus far! Kudos to Matthew for the story, and to the whole cast for their all-in role play. Next to Delta Green, this has quickly become my second favorite show on the network. Love it!
Absolutely love how he uses their character generation details to well and truly motivate them into the scenario. I couldn't imagine anyone saying no to the carrot that were dangled!
Also, now that I've watched the entire thing ... masterful game mastering by Matthew. That scene with with Skid where the deaths were brought up during interrogation, wow. I love the rebel attitude of Sydney's character. Seth is a treasure in so many ways, and he made me care about his character. I already mentioned how much I love Alicia more and more every time I see her play a role. I rarely find an "actual play" that captures my interest, and you all did. I want to see more of this.
The thing I don't like about the far trader ship design is the single entry/exit from the passenger section. It's a ladder on the other side of the cargo hold from the single airlock.
The interrogation scene was like watching a movie. As an editor I can see it in my mind. Intercutting answers and shots between the characters. I was on the edge of my seat!
She just wants a Kool-Aid. Can't you just get her a Kool-Aid? And...just caught the line Skid threw in there about the dinosaurs fight from Firefly. I could not help but laugh at that one!
For longer term campaigns that is a great choice, but i believe this is a short term campaign so i dont think they will be going through 8 weeks of jump needed to improve skills
a week in jump space? you're gonna need all the movie u can binge, videogames, a schedule of study and physical exercise, lots of booze and probably a sexbot called Consuela. Yeah that would do to keep at bay the space madness and the urge to eat your crew members.

I don't know that I like it or don't like it that's skid went against all of the party members decision to try to escape the Navy the first time... And that internal struggle that I have makes it all the cooler! Well done everybody, having a great time! This is better than a TV show!
I mean... meta-wise, it fits his character and I think he assumed that if he tried to actually jump, the Battron would vaporize the Gambit whether that's true or not. As a GM, I would have done a scene where they "jump" and get vaporized but then pull back the curtain a bit and say something like "and that's what Philo saw in his minds eye happening if he actually tried to jump",
Thank you Matthew and All ! I really enjoyed this, so much fun, entertaining, and so hilarious ! Send a battlefleet for a chevy, hit by 3 buses., etc. Lol. Well Done All, so much excellent rp. The interrogation scenes were anazing ! And love the blue hair, Syd. And red hair, Alicia.

I am so looking forward to the rest of this series and more! Thank you. I wrote this before reading Eric's comments. I couldn't agree more!
If the "K" is partially worn off, wouldn't it look like either "Hate's Gambit", or "Kate's Gamti". Really fun improv during the interrogation. I laughed. Recover the ship, keep it, start a commune planet. Instantly, you are the most powerful navy in the universe!
More annoying comments from a traveller lore nerd,. Matt is doing an amazing job for a GM new to traveller. His method of storytelling and allowing for emergent gameplay is the very essence of traveller, and he has nailed it. On the more esoteric lore he a very interesting take, it departs from classic traveller, but that is befiniately O.K., it’s your game after all, and I am loving it. Some notes on traditional traveller lore, hope it helps. Communications between systems is ship board mail, utilising the x-boat system, like the pony express, there are no f.t.l. comms. An 800 t ship is not a capital ship, 300Ot plus is. imperial Navy cruisers are most commonly 25000t - 50000t. An Imperial Battron Comprisses total tonnages often exceed one million tonnnes, with a 500 000 t and is only assembled en masse for major engagements due to 100s of mega credits per day expenditure for such a manuver. Again, in your traveller universe this may differ, and this is certainly cool, but to many of us, over 4 decades o traveller lore is over 4 decades of traveller lore.
I pretty much assumed he meant 8000. An 800-ton ship with enough fuel for multiple jumps could barely hold bunk space for a crew of 42, never mind the weapons.
@@MrfnordTim An 8000t size would be more realistic as a warship, can’t fit a 1000t spinal mount or many 500t bays on an 800t ship. It does get confusing in traveller lore though, as a mercenary “cruiser” is an 800t ship, but an imperial navy heavy cruiser can be up to 80 000t. Ship nonmenclature has always been an issue with traveller, as different polities have different naming conventions, and as the game developed and high guard came out in classic traveller as a little black book in the early 80s everything changed.
Alicia Marie's interrogation hits different then the others before it. They get under her skin and I've had to pause it and decompress to get through it cause something about it really makes me feel for her and the government's willingness to twist any knife or use any thumb screw to get what they want. I hope that was coherent. I really hope they get out of here soon.

I feel that the best movie representation of Traveller jumps is "Dark Star". A small crew in a confined small, all getting on each other's nerves.
Deep cut.
"At long last, sir, have you no decency?" What an erudite reply from Mr. Speaker.

I love the image of Artemis (Sydney) holding up one hand to the imperial marines as they come into the cargo hold and still taking a sip of her drink.

The best as-played episode ever! The interrogations killed!
Conference rooms in space are formally called "acusation parlours"
If the "K" is partially worn off, wouldn't it look like either "Hate's Gambit", or "Kate's Gamti".
Really fun improv during the interrogation. I laughed.
Recover the ship, keep it, start a commune planet. Instantly, you are the most powerful navy in the universe!
"Coke of cola"
"Nyet. Pepsiki."¹
¹ Never for real! Always Coke over the imposter.
This has been amazing!
Loving the series.
Ahh, the good old Imperial Navy, "POUR ENCOURAGER LES AUTRES".
I smell the thick scent of The Expanse and I like it :)
Ohhhh yeah. "When in doubt...always follow your nose." You're in for a treat, Nicole!
Love this show haha, hooked!
@@MrfnordTim agreed. a crew of 42 would be incredibly cramped like a sub.
@@ericaltmann5711 Real-world ship classifications aren't much better.
@@MrfnordTim Perhaps some of the crew complement are in low berths as a “cold watch” to be revived as needed.
Also before we go --> LOVE the hair Syd!!
Great episode. Thanks
You said 'It's a very adaptable myth.' I wish you'd said 'It's a very adaptable rift.'
Great show!!!!
Wasnt it "kEITH'S Gambit" mistaken for "8's Gambit"
Singular for "species" is "species"
I love the crew and the story so far! However, I am commenting to enquire what the opening song is from.
“SpaceBook!” Dying 😂
This was fantastic.
That is all.
that is such a good twist
spacebook friends....LOL oh seth you are the absolute ducks guts!
Great overall episode, nice curveball at the end.
Frankenstein, awesome tune...
Try spending 60 days on a submarine, 1 week is nothing.
We all know that if anyone had a week off with a holodeck, the first thing they'd use it for is weird sex stuff.
Fantastic.
What a good hook.
