150 years is not a joke..! With advancement of technology we are forgetting some hard facts. Even to imagine about that very time is truly out of our present world as it was God's work. We are what today is because of the gospel message that reached our soil through Dr EW Clark on 22nd Dec 1872 at Molungkimong village & there after continue to flourish every corner of Naga soil which is undeniable. Had he not step into Molungkimong village just think, there hadn't been such memorable remnants of he & his wife anywhere else..!! Hard facts yet I believe every true soul will agree.

There is no reason to confuse regarding Molungyimsen being the first Christian Church in Nagaland. I want to bring up this matter in this way. For instance, I started a school in Mokokchung but the school could not run well as there were certain obstacles that brought hindrances, So I decided to shift the school to Dimapur to meet my expectations which will be beneficial for me. Though I shifted the School to Dimapur, the date of establishment of the school will be the same as it was the same school I started in Mokokchung. It's just that the location was changed not the date. Likewise, the Christians in Molungkimong were persecuted as Mrs Mary Mead mentioned in her book," A corner in India" So, all the believers along with Dr. E. W Clark founded a new village which is Molungyimsen now and continued with the church work. This proves that Molungyimsen Baptist is the first church in Nagaland. God bless Molungyimsen.

Advent of christianity and the First Church in Nagaland was established in 1872 . Dr. Clark , along with the elders of Dekahaimong and the believers relocated to a new village - Molungyimsen. So Mission centre was started from 1876 in the Naga Hills. How many christians remained at Dekahaimong then? Did Dekahaimong continue to exist as a Christian village , if all the babtized members left with Dr. Clark to the new village? Curious to know

@@erzatzudir9213 There were only 24 converts (9 baptized at Sibsagor and 15 at Molungkimong) so where did the extra person come from? Which record is it written? Dr. Clark’s report to the ABFMS says that there was only 1 church and 10 church members in the Naga Hills in 1876 (i.e. at Molungyimsen). If there were converts at Molungkimong during that time then he would have surely written about it. To clear any misconceptions regarding this news report, here are some excerpts from the missionary records regarding Molungyimsen: The First Christian Village and the oldest Naga Church in the Naga Hills.
To establish a village where the spirit of Christianity rather that that of war should reign, the Christians of Deka Haimong with the missionary moved a few miles westward to a vacant mountain crest and founded the village of Molung on the 24th of October 1876. Here in all the ages was the first Naga village to hold Christ as King, all praise to His name. - Dr. E.W. Clark.
Most encouraging news comes from Molung. If we are to believe the reports, the whole village, practically, has become Christian. - S. A. Perrine. Impur.
Molung (Molungyimsen) village is now very largely Christian; that is, the Christian element much predominates. It is fairly good ideal Christian village for the first in the tribe out of heathenism. - Rev. E.W. Clark.
The church at Molung (Molungyimsen) village, the first church organized in all that mountain region. - Mrs. Mary Mead Clark.
There are two churches in this tribe of Nagas, one at Merangkong, and one at this Molung (Molungyimsen) village. Rev. E.W. Clark.
The year closing with December, 1892, presents no startling facts. One new church has been formed. It is in the village where the first baptisms were performed in the Naga Hills. It was because the Christians were persecuted so much in this Deka Haimong village that they were induced to form the new village Molung. But the chief persecutors have died; several Christians have gone there from other villages. These were formed into a church, and three were baptized, two of the three being chief men of the village. - Rev. E.W. Clark.

In order to win an argument, hotai, where is the written records eh hote be nu. While we all know that most of the knowledge and facts were passed down verbally.
The argument I came across was " Shifting of the church". You guys acknowledge the fact that it was "shifted" From Molungkimong to molungyimsen and since it was already present in Molungkimong, you guys wanna take the tag of 1872 along with it too; though molungyimsen was formed in 1876.
Why take the year alone? In that logic Molungyimsen should also be called Molungkimong nahoi? Kuch beh

Molungyimsen village is never the first christian village in Nagaland as claimed by this misleading video and also as claimed by Molungyimsen people and their supporters.
If we proclaimed the slogan ' The first christian village in Nagaland' for Molungyimsen village which founded in 24th Oct 1876, then what about Molungkimong (Deka Haimong/ Haimong) village in which the first baptist church was already existed there since 1872.
No harm, it is true that Mrs Clark used the word " first christian village" for Molungyimsen in her book ' a corner in india'. But the author used it for the sole reason that this village was founded with a prayer and demon worshipping was not performed like any other Ao villages formation in those olden days.
Even today of 2022 AD, there are only a few numbers of Ao Naga villages in Nagaland which offered prayer during village formation. But it does not meant that Molungyimsen was the first village where baptist christian existed for the first time in Nagaland during Clark' era.
And we all know the founders of Molungyimsen village on 24th Oct 1876 because it is founded from the then Molungkimong village in their own jurisdiction but against their wishes. The founders were mostly non- baptist christian. We knew the founders by name and their clans. And there were multiple reasons for its formation.
It is true that, later on, Molungyimsen became the American Baptist Foreign Mission Centre which shifted to Impur in 1894. But how can one say that Molungyimsen is the first christian village in Nagaland? Please justify.

    • @dhiamung
      @dhiamung 2 года назад +4

Molungkimong (Deka Haimong) is where the advent of Christianity took place and also the place where the Naga Church was founded but it is not the first Christian village. Not only Mary Mead but Dr. E.W. Clark and Rev. S.A. Perrine have named Molungyimsen as the first Christian village in the Naga Hills in their writings. Look into the records instead of spreading your own narrative.
Moreover the first Christian village is not about offering prayers during village formation. Molungyimsen wasn’t called the first Christian village when it was formed but it was named only after all the villagers accepted the new faith, so again read the records before speaking out your mind.

Plz refer the book , A corner in India by M M Clark, page-24.
Here, even the point of prayer offered beside a fig tree at the new village site is never found in missionary record. It is only found in twisted record book locally written by Molungyimsen.
Who will believed without documents that the small fig tree now showing near the controversial Litche tree at Molungyimsen was the fig tree beside which the new settlers offered a prayer on 24th Oct 1876, some 148 years back.
But for sure, they did no expensive Demon worshipping at the new site as have been practising by the then Ao-Naga villages during new village formation.
You know, as per 1876 Godhula's report (i don't have enough time and pages to write in detail here), there were 23 baptist believers at Deka Haimong village. The reporter himself was the pastor. And unlike today, there was only one baptist member in a family that time and there were no baptist church at all in any other parts of Nagaland.
On 24th Oct 1876, only 15 families migrated from Deka Haimong (Molungkimong) to the new site.
Out of 15 families, majority were non-baptist believers. So atleast a few christians were left behind at Dekahaimong alongwith pastor's family and Supongmeren , the assistant. And the remnant church continued and that church is still living today at Molungkimong (may refer ABAM and Molungkimong join research paper 1980).
So it is unwise for you to give comments without supportive documents.
Moreover, don't you know that the nickname 'Christian village' have already used by missionary in their record for Molungkimong (Deka Haimong) village even before the founding of Molungyimsen (Molungting) village on 24th Oct 1876.
Then which village in Nagaland have used first as christian village by the missionary?
Which village in Nagaland had first baptist christians and church ?
Which missionary station come first in Nagaland basing on timeline:
      1872-station (Molungkimong)?
      1876-station (Molungyimsen}?
      1894-station (Impur) ?
To me , the village where the christian alongwith church exist first in Nagaland should be the first christian village and it is Molungkimong /Deka Haimong/simply Haimong in short. Not because of prayer offered at new site and not because of avoiding demon worshiping at new site.
Furthermore, many missionary activities have already performed by the missionaries like Dr E W Clark and Godhula assisted by Supongmeren and the then village councils from this first station (1872) Deka Haimong/Haimong.
(Am not comparing the numbers of work done by missionaries from different mission stations/mission centre in Nagaland).
So , Molungyimsen is never the first christian village in Nagaland.

@@t.nungsangtemjenao7491 I haven’t come across 1876 Godhula's report and I don’t think you have it either so no need to make an excuse basing on your time & pages.
Here are some points taken out from the Annual Reports of ABFMS to justify the truth about Molungyimsen.
Mission to the Assamese, Sixty First Annual Report, 1875
“…Mr. Clark has had charge of the church, and directed the labors of the evangelist, especially of Godhula and Kunbar, besides doing the work of the press. The native preachers just named spent between three and four months in the Naga Hills, with what results we have not yet been advised. Mr. Clark writing under date of Oct. 26, expressed the fear that the Naga Church had suffered from a great defection, and that not more than twelve of the disciples would be found to have maintained their integrity…”
Note: Before this report Godhula suspended two church members in Deka Haimong (Molungkimong) for taking part in a headhunting party and some of the first converts passed away so your claim of 23 baptist believers at Deka Haimong village in 1876 is false.
Mission to the Assamese, Sixty Third Annual Report, 1877
“…The first migration to the new locality was not large, and those who preferred to remain at the old village made much more opposition than was expected. Godhula, my Assamese assistant, becoming alarmed at this opposition, left the hills at once… About two-thirds of the people of the old village have come here, and the Christian element is here the ruling one…”
Note: This proves that Godhula left Molungkimong after the formation of Molungyimsen village.
Assam Mission Statistics, 1876 as reported in 1877 by Dr. Clark from Molungyimsen.
      Station - Haimoung
No. of Organized Church - 1
      Church Members - 10
Note: This statistics was given by Dr. Clark from Molungyimsen to the ABFMS where it shows that there was only 1 church and 10 church members in the Naga Hills which was at Molungyimsen. So was there a church at Molungkimong during that time?
Lastly, it is clearly said that “this fig tree is in memory of…” so your wild allegation of Molungyimsen claiming the fig tree as the one 146 years ago (not 148) is meaningless. Read the plaque given beside the fig tree to know its story.

Here in all the ages was the first Naga village to hold Christ as King, all praise to His name…”

“…Molung (Molungyimsen) village is now very largely Christian; that is, the Christian element much predominates. It is fairly good ideal Christian village for the first in the tribe out of heathenism…”
      Rev. E.W. Clark.
“...The church at Molung (Molungyimsen) village, the first church organized in all that mountain region…”
      Mrs. Mary Mead Clark.
“…There are two churches in this tribe of Nagas, one at Merangkong, and one at this Molung (Molungyimsen) village…”
      Rev. E.W. Clark. Amguri, April 1, 1884.
“…The year closing with December, 1892, presents no startling facts. One new church has been formed. It is in the village where the first baptisms were performed in the Naga Hills. It was because the Christians were persecuted so much in this Deka Haimong village that they were induced to form the new village Molung. But the chief persecutors have died; several Christians have gone there from other villages. What about the blessings bestowed upon you during those celebrations; they just can't evaporate into thin air. How fruitful could filing a case against ABAM be for Aoer? This is deception! Firstly, the first Church in Naga Hill's was called "The Naga Church" which was established in 1872 at Deka Haimong (Molungkimong) but from 1876 the Church at Molung (Molungyimsen) was referred as 'The Naga Church' by Rev. Dr. E.W. Clark and other missionaries. So the fact is, there was no Church at Deka Haimong (Molungkimong) after 1876.
Secondly, Rev. Dr. E.W. Clark was considered as British Spy and a colonizer and the Christian's were persecuted by the Non-Christians at Deka Haimong (Molungkimong) village. So Rev. Dr. E.W. Clark, some Christian's and few Non-Christian's established a New Village called 'Molung' ( Molungyimsen). The Church at Molung (Molungyimsen) was called 'The Naga Church' which was 'The First Church in Naga Hill's'. It was from this Church that Angami and Lotha Mission Fields were started.
Thirdly, the Church at Deka Haimong (Molungkimong) was established in 1892 which was called as 'Deka Haimong Church'. Again in the year 1919 another Church was established at the same village and that time it was called 'Molungyimchen Church'.
Moreover, the fact is Molungyimsen had been celebrating Jubilees according to ABAM's resolutions and even this year they will be celebrating Sesquicentennial according to ABAM resolution. Remember, when you say Molungyimsen's Jubilee was a mistake you are also accusing ABAM as well. Please check the ABAM's resolutions.

“One new church has been formed. It is in the village where the first baptisms were performed in the Naga Hills. It was because the Christians were "persecuted" so much in this Deka Haimong village (Molungkimong) that they were induced to form the new village Molung (Molungyimsen). But the chief persecutors have died; several Christians have gone there from other villages. These were formed into a church, and three were baptized, two of the three being chief men of the village.” (Edward Winter Clark, “The Naga Mission: Rev. E. W. Clark,” Baptist Missionary Magazine, 73.8, 1893, p. 402).

Supongmeren was the first Baptist from Molungkimong village. He was baptized on Oct 1,1871 at Sibsagar in the river Dikhu. On December 10, 1872, nine people from the village were baptised at Sibsagar and another 15 on December 22 at Molungkimong village. Though Supongmeren and 9 others from Molungkimong Village were baptized first at Sibsagar on Oct 1, 1871 and Nov 10, 1872 consequently, the ABAM had decided that the first baptism will be dated 22 Dec 1872 as the latter 15 villagers were baptized in Molungkimong village itself by Dr. EW Clark.
It has also been mentioned that the first baptism at Molungyimsen took place on June 2, 1878, two years after they established their village. Also the name Molung-yimsen means New Village.

What a shame..!! Molyungyimsen was formed in 1876 and now they're declaring to celebrate 150 years jubilee? 🤣🤣Molyungyimsen you have 4 years to honor 150years of jubilee, why don't you make up? Outside of your Church it is mentioned that your village was established in 1872,when in reality your Church was formed in 1876,What a logic 🤣🤣and I've come across in some Clark's documents in which he clearly mentioned that he was not happy with the villagers in molyungyimsen, so he decided to get away, and one early morning he moved out along with his horse . However, some villagers saw and followed him and cut off the bridge when he was in the middle of the bridge, why talk of Prosecution in Molungkimong while he was mistreated by villagers in molyungyimsen ?

Thankyou hornbill TV... But i hope and pray that this documentary will not create more and more Issues....
Despite persecution,Dr Clark could overcome his mission works all those four years ie. 1872 to 76 in Molungkimong and I'm glad that has life was 100%saved when he was in Molungkimong...
The word "persecution"is not a new word, even today Christian missionaries and christians are persecuted even today in different parts of the world and in India as well... God bless Molungkimong and Molungyimsen.. Dr Clark might have studied Missiology where he learn to establish more n more churches 🙏🙏
