    This type of song is what inspires today's artists like fka twigs, Tinashe, the weeknd etc. Aaliyah was beyond her time

      +Eli C Janet jackson did not sing the same genre as aaliyah... There is a clear difference in music style. But I can agree with you that Janet has inspired aaliyah when it comes to clothing style and dancing.

      Janet was an influence to tinashe
      Aaliyah was an influence to like Kehlani, Drake, Seyvn & some others but what's cute is that Janet was influence to Aaliyah
      You don't have to be in the same genre to be influenced..

      She literally inspired Beyonce, Rhianna, Ciara, hell Missy and Timberland got Tweet to fill her place.

    • @trinigrl09
      @trinigrl09 3 года назад +7

      She wasn't the originator....she herself was inspired by Janet Jackson among others and this song is kind of reminiscent of Black Cat by Janet Jackson......It's impossible to say one artist is the originator because all the great artists were influenced by someone else.......it's a beautiful circle of musical genius.

    • @christian1104
      @christian1104 3 года назад +10

      @@trinigrl09 I can’t argue with that. Janet is great. All I’m sayin is Rihanna anti album for sure resembles aaliyahs last album. That sound in particular Aaliyah mastered. Now if we wanna go back.. Janet def killed shit in 80s 90s.. I will GLADLY stand corrected on that “originator” portion... 👍🏽 thanks for the input

    • @stews5404
      @stews5404 3 года назад +3

      @@trinigrl09 I agree but I think in terms of the current acts there's a more direct lineage to Aaliyah's music than Janet's. But all roads lead back to Janet certainly.

    • @Dboy4100X3
      @Dboy4100X3 3 года назад +5

      And Janet was inspired by Michael who had dirty diana before black cat. Whats your point? Aaliyah can be influenced by others and still influende other generations. Like Rihanna who already cited Aaliyah as an inspiration.

    This shit is undoubtedly hottttt! Screams almost like a Nine Inch Nails cover with a mix of some Timbaland influence. Loved how experimental Aaliyah was getting on her last release. Nothin' but R&B gold taking on different forms during this era; goth, metal, futurism, electro, dubstep. God, I looooved and obsessed over this era so damn much too damn bad we'll never get something this explosive again nor a dream team like Aaliyah, Playa, Missy, Timbaland, Tweet, Ginuwine, Magoo & Nicole Wray ever again. Once in a lifetime experience.

      or even better like her outfit from "queen of the damn" in bronze and gold leather like a futuristic look out of the fifth element or Stargate since she was going to do the Matrix . she's at the table talking to her man singing this song and he's trying to get away with being caught cheating on her but he turns around she in front of him again without moving like her character in QOTD and do some dance similar to the movie but edgier and smooth, hard but soft like the video " Try again' and "Are you that Somebody" towards the end with the spanish dance to keep him backing up but cornered andt able to leave while she rocks the floor how she did in the club scene in the movie. the background some space looking club. or something dark like Lestat room.

    This was on heavy repeat for me in 2001. Sadly as a sign of the times her shady ass record company only released what they figured sounded the most like an R&B club banger(which wasn't bad). However! Had she released what if, extra smooth, you got nerve, or I can be followed by dope choreography while effortless slaying those video's. Aaliyah's crossover ability as an artist would have been recognized by a broader audience in 2001 not 2016.

    "Left with a trace of all that was, and all that could've been...." - Nine Inch Nails (aka Trent Reznor). I believe he wrote that song as a tribute to her. It makes sense seeing as she wrote this one as a tribute to him. He did inspire her after all. And it was her dream to collab with him. Had they collabed, they would've changed the face of music. From songs like the one I gave my heart to, rock the boat, are you that somebody, one in a million to this one. This isn't typical Aaliyah

      She was evolving and experimenting. Musically this and other cuts from the red album are some of her best songs.

    damn another song off this album I remember stayed on HEAVY rotation when I used to sneak in his room & listened to all his music when he wasn't there. I was 9 in 2001 when her last album came out.... it's 2017 & it's still sound so fresh! That's VERY telling on of her career. timeless classics from a Angel who went before she fully had the ball man :/

    I visualize a music video of her at a bar walking across it and smashing shit getting up all in the nigga's face she snapping at "You're a jealous man, one who doesn't understand when other dudes tryna holla wanna take my hand.." etc. SHIT!! and then a kick ass dance routine. She'd be dressed in this gothic like vibes sort of thing, with highlights and chains, I f'n would have been here for it xD I gotta wild imagination but I feel that would have been a great approach xD had this been a single...It had potential. I wouldn't mind it being the 4th rumor had it she was planning 4 singles total with this album, but I can't fully confirm it.
    The f*cking guitar strings on this beat though is fire!! This songs sounds like some today shit.

    If she were still alive she would undoubtedly shaking things up and then some. Some gave hr shit for having rock and Metal elements in this. Well, rock n roll IS black music given black people created it. Thus its successor Metal is as well for the most part. Metal is #1 to me but so is good music irrespective of the genre.
    She was ahead of her time, daring, fearless, and it showed. It didn't help that she was absolutely gorgeous.

    This album was basically Lemonade before Lemonade, in how each track speaks about the different stages of love and relationships. It's a self-care album.

    The industrial rock... she was so ahead of her time. You can hear the Janet influence. I wish she could have gotten into UK Garage like she wanted it too. Set the tempo for FKA Twigs, The Weeknd etc. Such a visionary. Happy birthday babygirl. We love you FOREVER
