I will read any book with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. I will watch any show with an actual plot. I will watch any movie with an actual plot. I'm not a hard person to please...
The reason that argument bothers me is because my older brother and I would never have had the appreciation for good writing that we have now if we were forced to watch low-quality programming. Not to say we couldn't have done something else instead of watch TV, but bear with me. If all that is available to watch is drivel, and one happens to be a TV-watching child, that becomes one's idea of what 'good' TV is. If 'good TV' has no intellect in its substance, the kid is essentially occupying his/her mind with dead, meaningless time. It's popular for my elders to assert that TV not broadcasting a news station is always meaningless, but most of us know better than that. While a child may not understand all of the things they take in, they still retain a lot of it. For those of you that did watch intelligent programming when you were little, I'm sure you now occasionally look up and say "I suddenly get that!" Even if we don't understand why good writing is "good" at that age, we still remember it, and it has a tremendous impact on our understanding later.
3 words for people KIDS AREN'T STUPID.I'm actually 10 and I understand perfectly what Dr.wolf,IloveKimpossiblealot,Inkrose and you AnthonyC.And I know why they would think SOME kids are stupid but not all kids are.Same thing why they don't want kids to vote.People think kids will vote for the wrong president and will just vote for them because they gave ice-cream or something, when they don't understand that kids are not that stupid.I also know why they want people to look after their kids and see what their doing in the internet, but I would never search up those things or click it.Now that I'm over the whole "kids are stupid" thing.I wanna say why I like My Little Pony F.I.M.,I like it because of the fandom and I'm amazed on how BOYS like it and grown ups like it.It just shows what an amazing show My little pony is.The bronies/analysis shows the possibilities of what the writers could've done with an episode/movie.I have to say I actually like the fandom's work more than the show itself. You know Jan Animations,Fluffy Mixer, etc..Now for the "MLP is for kids" thing, this is just one of those little surprises in life you have to accept. Now for antibronies,I suggest ignoring them.If they comment on a brony's video hating, they're actually giving the brony views so ignore them.
I watch the show because allowing myself to learn morals with developing characters that look like candy makes me feel good. The humor is usually witty and there are jokes targeted at older audiences. Oh, and THE FEELS!!!!
Well, I see MLP because of the lessons. Yes. Just look everywhere and tell me what people think about Friendship. That show slaps you in the face, it's show you things you forgot, things that are fucking important but the adult live force us to forget! I became a brony because MLP was the key to open my eyes for the good things of friendship, a lesson that modern humanity need to learn again.
This is why I love my family. We are all of bunch of psychos. I may be the only brony, but every single member of my family plays video games, watches cartoons, has a stuffed animal etc... The adults have jobs, and kids and many of them drink and party. But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy good entertainment. Heck, I am twenty four and I was flirting with a punk rocker girl while buying beer for a friday night party with UFC pay per view, and somehow talking about Vinyl Scratch and Octavia got me her number. A good show is a good show. Pony princesses aside, just give it a chance. You don't have to like it, but don't tell us that we can't.
What makes this show as awesome and inspiring as it is, is good writing and a deep universe. But that's not exactly why I watch it. I watch it because people like you exist, Antony. Because after watching an episode I don't have to forget it and move on. Many artists, critics and writers help us relive them again and again, always noticing more details to them, drawing inspiration from them, helping us understand the setting and the characters in a different way. Thank you for doing that.
This Idea that children are mindless zombies who will watch anything is utter tripe. I remember watching shows as a kid that would TEACH me stuff! Zaboomafoo was all about animals and the weird interesting world they lived in, cartoons like Gargoyles and Spiderman were all about overcoming your fears and standing up for what's right and so on. Shit that was important to a growing mind seasoned with fun entertaining quips and sarcasm.
The reason why I like mlp even though it's for kids, is because I will always relate to it. The way mlp works is that it takes problems (that EVERYONE gets), then they make it equestria-like, eventually solving it in the end. however, the simple references to real life in the video will always make people to relate to these fictional characters. My favorite characters are mostly the ones that I could relate to. I could relate to fluttershy, because when I was young, I was shy and I would stick to all my close friends (in fluttershy's case, animals) until later, I started to open up. I can (and STILL can) relate to apple bloom because I was bullied all the time just because I was different. I can even relate to spike because I have felt like the short end of the stick loads of times. it was awful. In my opinion, MLP is a metaphor for life. The mane six represent types of people. each episode represents a problem and they always have to solve it. by every single episode they seem to be "growing up", with Twilight sparkle becoming an alicorn representing becoming an adult. When you become an adult, you need to find your purpose in life, just like twilight has to. The reason why I like Mlp even though I am a teen is because mlp reminds me of all the GOOD and the BAD of my life so far. It comes up to the point where I know how the characters are going through because I myself have gone through these situations. Of course, i haven't experienced supernatural things like TIME TRAVEL, but there are things which mlp touches that almost every person or pony has gone through. And THAT'S why I think the show is great.
Excellent point! I've always winced a little inside whenever someone implies that the quality of kids/family entertainment doesn't matter. There are all kinds of well-thought-out stories that don't talk down to kids or adults, and that's why they are able to keep big followings. Arguing that good writing for children doesn't matter is like saying we should just buy dog food for our kids because fine cuisine will be wasted on them. We should aspire to give young ones the best.
Thank you. You've just helped me somewhat come to terms with the cognitive dissonance I've suffered from being a grown man who likes listening to Slayer and watching MLP (not at the same time). Honestly, I can't help but feel guilty about it. As though liking MLP means I've done something wrong. And I fear my family would disown me if they ever found out.
I honestly use to hate coming across so many pony related things and one of my favorite artists playing fan music and talking about the show... then I heard some fan songs that I liked and decided... well if they're doing this, and if they talk about it... I'll give it a shot. Keep in mind before I watched my preconception of the show had been well Gen 1 - 3. So I was like "how can you like those horrible shows?" Then I watched it... and realized it was completely different and what is this plot that I see?! And yeah then I got hooked, because it was well written, and I loved it. To summarize... the song Join the Herd by Forest Rain completely describes it all for me.
"If it's a kids show, why do I watch it?" I am not one for in-depth explanations so I will just say this; I watch the show because I find it a fun show to watch.
I find it quite funny that Mlp, a show "intended for kids"is questioned for its dance of full grown men. Now, let me mention that Doctor Who was originally "intended for kids." No one questions its more mature fandom? I mean, DW has evolved into a more mature show, but hiding behind "kids demographic"will NOT HIDE WRITING ERRORS. It's just lazy, and kids CAN spot it. I have seen countless examples of lazy writing. Not all kids are stupid enough to not spot plot holes. Watching television when I was eight, I lost interest in a lot of shows for poor writing and the major plot holes. Let's hope MLP won't become one of these in newer episodes. Heck, I've already been hesitant to watch newer episodes because of the major plot holes in the premiere.
Great voice acting, great writing, great animation, who could ask for more from a TV Show. John de Lancie's performance combined with the spectacular writing makes Return of Harmony one of the greatest episodes of all time, not just in MLP but in anything....ever.
It reminded me of how i grew up with all the lessons to be taught, a foal with no experiance if u will and growing up to a confident young colt. To feel the same as i did then, when i did not know everything that was in the world. but while still retaining my objective view of my own world, by knowing the difference u gain more experiance
THANK YOU!! I'm tired i a personal sense of hearing the 'Its for kids of course it's like that' excuse for poor writing as well. And seeing as i work part time in child care i can tell you for even one age range there can be a variety of shows either pandering, talking down, or rarely building up a childs ability to think
The reason i love MLP is because of what the writers can pull off. Having such adult topics like Scootaloo and not being able to fly and how others react vs. how you should react; Babs being a bully because she was bullies-which happens more then some may realize; and things along that nature. Also the English geek inside of me always squees at the sights of foreshadowing, symbols, and other figurative language. And finally it reminds me of when i was a kid watching shows and not getting certain things, but being older and re watching them i notice things that i didn't before. I have a feeling the same thing is going to happen to the kids who watch this show, being able to re-watch many of the episodes years after they had already been released.
I watch it because at the end of a tough week of being yelled at, at work by customers, and having to listen to the same problems again and again and fixing them only to know they are going to break. It is nice to have this little fun gem of funny writing, amazing community and all the fan media that comes with it. I enjoy the show because it is different, because it has memorable characters and for 22 minutes I don;t have to worry the world I have to worry about is will my internet hold up.
I watch it, because it picks me up when I am down. When the stress and worries of grown-up life or the 'future' coming to me, when I stop smiling for a second, I sing Pinkie Pie's little tune and don't give two shits about who is listening. MLP:FIM reminds me of the things I've lost over the years and then gives them back to you. After that, suddenly life becomes simpler, brighter, and, dare I say, happier. The future doesn't seem that scary anymore; because, I will forever be a child at heart.
I watch it because the characters are engaging and relateable, the animation style is fantastic and downright adorable, the kid friendly jokes are actually funny, the story(ies) is (are) interesting, it took me by surprise from the start and kept me going the whole time, and the fandom for this show is so rich in content. so much amazing works of art that are inspired by this "kids show" To any non-brony, if they ask why were are into this show, I will ask them, why not. it's so worth it
I watch and love MLP:FIM. Its sometimes has good plot line, doesn't talk to the audience like their slow/stupid, good amination, and well, it just makes me happy. I don't care what most say, I love the show and I'll keep watching no matter what. I do feel that it has good morels and lesson that most today have just forgotten or don't practice because they might be consider lame or uncool. Thank you Antony.
Why am I watching it? Because I don't care if it's "for kids" or not, I like it~ Plus... "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional" I'll never really grow up~
I also sing the songs, draw the ponies, I write little fanfictions in my notebooks, I write comics of them. . . The ponies are a huge part of my life right now because I have nothing else to do that I enjoy as much as the colored cartoony ponies. I won't be as occupied when the show ends because I won't be inspired by the new episodes. MLP somehow inspires me. . . And so do youtube channels that have to do with ponies. Thank you Lauren, the almighty alicorn god. Thank you so much.
THANK YOU!!!! I absolutely HATE it when someone uses the "just for kids" argument to excuse bad writing, or stupid writing. So thank you very much AnthonyC for your argument.
I agree every word with you man. And I just can't help but remember a quote from Walt Disney. "Whoever writes a story just for kids is dead. Adults are kids just grown up."
I watch it because it always lifts my mood if I'm in a rut. (It's also nice and colorful like cartoons and animated shows should be!) I'm also a beginner animator myself so I can use it for a reference.
Isn't it just great how Americans (and other places too I bet) talk about equality, and civil rights, and not judging your fellow man...and then pass judgement on Bronies for liking a "kid's show"?
Freaking dang it Antony! You just had to start playing The Rainbow Connection?! Now I'm getting all sad and teary eyed over my childhood nostalgia. THANKS A LOT :'(
Very, very nice points Antony! I watch the show because I enjoy the stories, and watching the characters grow. It's an enjoyable show, and an intriguing world that it is placed in.
I applaud you sir someone other than me understands this. ( fun fact even psychologists will tell you that your personality that you are born with stays with you the rest of your life. Although their are some fluctuations never has their been anyone who has completely lost their original personality entirely) so to this I say yes.
I just enjoy it. It's a nice little form of escapism and can genuinely make me laugh now and then, and I'm sure we've all needed a good laugh now and then, or just something to make this world seem a little less dark. As for bad writing being an excuse? I read LoTR and the Hobbit when I was ten, understood everything going on, and was able to keep up with the jumping around between the plotlines. Then I moved onto the Belgariad, the Midkemia series. So, stupid kids? Only if treated as such.
Here's my reason why I watch it. It is a show I like to watch. I seriously do not need to explain my personal interests further than that. It's like saying "Why don't you like Madonna if you like Michael Jackson, they are both pop singers, no?" Simply, even if it is the same genre, in this case, cartoons, it does not mean all of them apply to you. I love to watch the Boondocks, Metalocalypse and Pirates of Dark Waters. Does that mean that I like to watch the animated barbie, care bears or any of those? absolutely not. Do not let a genre define the content, I do not like many types of country, but I do like SOME bands and such. Just because I does not Like Justin Bieber doesn't mean I don't like Prince and Michael Jackson as stated before, it means there are good ones and bad ones in all genres. just because I did not like generation one of my little pony does not mean I don't like the generation 4 one. In fact, I think it is unfair to state that a show cannot change, we saw it in the Sonic the Hedgehog show, the first one which i did not like, and then they made a darker version which had way more story that was not just awesome to watch, it made you really get into it. We also have the very oposite of something we liked before being worse these days. basicly everything Michael Bay did, TMNT and Transformers as examples. So must we like something just because it applies to the targeted audience? Absolutely not, and we must not disslike something that does not apply to us either.
i watch mlp because i love the story, the characters, i think they're all interesting and i get my time invested into them as much as a whovian gets invested into the Doctor. I love the lore behind it all. I love how the show teaches me to better myself as a person, such as making role models such as the mane six, of which each one shows a certain positive trait about them, but also to show at times its okay to mess up, because its silly to.....the show is fun to watch, no more room to type...
I watch it, because it makes me smile. Watching MLP:FiM, takes me out of this horrid world that we are in, even if it is only for a little while. I laugh, I cry, I smile, all when I watch this show. Not many shows or movies, actually make me feel for their characters, like this one. Even when I was having a bad day, just seeing Pinkie Pie, made me smile.
Not to mention the voice acting is tops, the story line is great, there actually is a story in it, the songs are usually very catchy with genres for every type of music lover, and any show about candy-coated ponies whose greatest weapons are rainbows made of friendship that can gather an entire group of teen and adult male fans is something well worth looking into. It's not perfect, but it's still a good watch at the very least.
Fiasco and Once Upon a Time are games designed around telling a story. While the mechanics are different, the idea is to take a certain list of plot elements and mold them into a cohesive (though generally outlandish) narrative. The two games in question were played on Wil Weaton's RUclips show Table Top. Table Top itself is a show where Wil teaches the audience how to play a board/card/table game then proceeds to play it with a group of guests. I hope that helps! ^^;
As movies were an escape from the world for people during the great depression, MLP is an escape for me. I like how it's written and paced, things evolve in it and change. There's a plot in the plot. If you looked at each episode you see a plot but then if you step back and look at each season as if there were an episode you see another plot. (Not enough room here to explain that). I'm the type of person who will argue with myself, but even me and myself both agree that we like MLP.
I watch this show because I have precious little free time. When I do have a spare moment from my stressful life, I like to curl up with a cuppa tea and an episode of mlp. It helps me relax at the end of the day. I like getting lost in a magical world filled with ponies. The fact that it isn't too dramatic means the show wont stress me out. The fact that it is interesting and friendly to forward thinking females just makes it better. It's hard to find something that is the right mix.
Well said, Antony. That's why you're my favorite! Anyways, I watch the show because I find the characters and the world they inhabit very interesting. I can relate a lot to Fluttershy, Twilight reminds me of my sister, so on and so forth. I find the episodes themselves a joy to watch, unlike other kids programs that make me feel like my brain is melting. On top of it all, the art is quite simply brilliant. The art direction is magnificent, despite the few snags here and there.
The characters are relatable and have depth, if you look hard enough. The comedy is absolutely hilarious. The fantasy elements mixed with some technology and antiquity make me want to see more. The fandom is fun and creative. It's connected me with some awesome people. The show is completely in a different set of principles than our own, and I like that. So I question something of the opposite, what would make you stop watching the show
I'm 12 years old girl only a pinch older than the target audience so i don't have very much to say. I guess it's become a normal thing for little girls to watch it since we are the target audience. Well anyways: I am a brony because i think the show itself is very well written has great voice actors very good animation not to mention the AMAZING musical numbers! But i'm also a brony because i love the fandom. Bronies are almost always so optimistic and happy and some of them are very talented. People like TheLivingTombstone Inkpots BlueStarBrony JanAnimations Digibrony and of course Antony C just to name a few are some of the super creative funny people that i just really enjoy watching. And that's just RUclips! You can find more of these people on DeviantART Tumblr and of course in real life too if you are lucky enough to know one :) Bronies: I love you. And i love to share this amazing fandom with all of you.
Why am I watching this show? Well, I watch it because I enjoy the characters, stories, the morals, the animation, and the humor. They are so many things that make me love it so much.
I watch MLP because its well written (sometimes) well animated, the voice cast is stellar and the humour has many different levels so more than one age group can watch it without wanting to rip out there ears and eyes (Teletubbies I'm looking at you) thank you Lauren Faust for yet another stunning family cartoon
I like and watch mlp because I was often saddened by my environment, those ponies sure can put a smile on just about anyones face though. Another question to ask though is why I watch you, ilovekimpossiblealot and bronycurious; I love the in depth descriptions of why I love the show and it enhances my perceived view of the show.
Becoming a brony made me discover what I want to do with my life. Before I was a brony I hade no clue what I wanted to be when I grew up but thanks to mlp I discovered thanks to my OC I am working to becoming a mechanic.
16 yrs old and watching candy colored ponies all because I LIKE THE SHOW! And it all started because netflix put it on a recommendation list and I was bored as hell so I figured it would be entertaining for a while.
I watch the show because I not only strongly believe in supporting better writing for even little kids, but I also see the colorful and whimsical world as a place where I can go back to the better days of my childhood and relax. Even more, they have jokes that are for older audiences (references to other media for adults and teens), making the show certainly not JUST for little girls. Besides that, I know many little boys who enjoy it too, alongside their hot-wheels and other 'masculine' things.
Great video once again great sir! And the response I came up with to the $64,000,000 question is "MLP is PRIMARILY a kids show, with an adult fan base in mind. They keep the playfulness and cheeriness of a children's show with the fantastic writing of a young adults show to appeal to all ages, and thus MLP is technically a kids show but not at the same time." I'm not sure if that is a good enough response to get feedback from you but it's worth a shot.
I don't know if you would call a not-so-mature 10-year-old girl a pegasister. I love the show, but I don't know how I would feel if I were older. I love the show because I don't have much to do, and the humor, girliness, and pretty pastel ponies just appeal to me. The magic of rainbow horses with wings and horns and super strength and the strange things like getting even more powers by somehow jumping in a comic book. . . And the adorableness of fluttershy fan art and the great analysts analyzing silly fantasy problems and solutions. . . And the joy of seeing Pinkie Pie screw physics like a god. . . It's just. . . 20% cooler.
I watch it because of continuity and generaly grand writing! So few television shows have this, even shows 'for' adults. Continuity just makes me happy.
I could go deep into the reasons of 'I watched this as a kid, it's redone and is the amazingness I remember from that point of my life, only better', but to be honest, that is only a small fraction of it. The staff actively listens to the adult portion of their audiences, so that certain things happen. Some of the better written episodes could have been because of fan influence. I'll take the episode in the 4th season of MLP where Flutteryshy tries to defend vampire bats against AppleJack's insistence that they're evil, with everyone following suit. Sample one: Blind rage/almost prejudice. The only thing AJ sees is monsters that destroy her hard work, though Flutteryshy has several really good points on how they aren't bad. Sample two: There is the mention of the word sin. It's the only time, if I remember correctly, that the word is brought up in the show, is never censored and is used in a manner to describe the bats like they were demons. That brings sample three: Tartarus is real. Cereberus is real. Several other instances of Greek and Roman mythology are plain here, including with the newer movie, which includes sirens and Sunset Shimmer calling herself a demon. Don't know many kids shows from back in the day (mid to late 80s and even early 90s) that would include those in such a manner. I'm going to make an exception for Aladdin as his tv adventures were set in the same exact manner. Surrounded by mythos and being of mythos. Even then, the show was still more tower and older child/younger to mid teen audience. Lots of adult jokes in there too. These things, the fact they use real world mythology along with various other things kids shows wouldn't get (like the depth of music.. I again remind of the new movie. Some of the songs were eugh but I don't remember many songs except the Pony Tones song that had good vocalization, like the Dazzlings used and the Rainbooms even used themselves later. That sort of level of music seems much more.. adult. And that's my piece on that. :| That and I think stumbling upon Antony from Digibro was one of the coolest accidents I've made in the last year. Also, I wasn't expecting Australian. Maybe it was the specific inflections on words, doesn't matter.. I could listen to him all day..... >.>;;; *leaves*
When I was a little kid I would watch anything that looked like fun, especially a cartoon, regardless of the writing. Hell, I still do that sometimes. Therefore I believe that the TV people who think kids will watch anything have a point. And now I am watching MLP because I want to stay up to date with the amazing community it created, and also because through my headcanon's twisted ways I've fallen in love with the characters themselves.
Because I was in a dark, depressing time of my life, and an upbeat, positive, happy, cute, funny, endearing, deep, hopeful TV show about talking magical ponies came along. I can't say I ever thought I'd like something labelled as a "girls show", but here I am, enjoying every minute of it, and thankful for everything the writers, producers, actors, and all the staff on the show have done. Combine this with one of the most accepting fanbases (minus the arseholes all fandoms have) I've been in.
I watch Friendship is Magic because it's funny, and because....well....it's comforting without the overwhelming "FEEL HAPPY BECAUSE I SAY YOU ARE HAPPY" vibe/message that a lot of shows out there have. I'm 20 years old, I come up with grimdark, and I like cute ponies. Because I can.
Yes, I fully agree that people seem to think that kids programming gets a free pass for low quality since it is targeted to people they don't think are capable of appreciating it. Even Nostalgia Chick thinks so: Nostalgia Chick - Top Ten Worst Disney Sequels part 2/2 Kids are smarter than a lot of people like to give them credit for. They do have a sense of quality. In fact, it would help if they were exposed to good quality more often so that they have something to compare bad quality to. But at the same time, there's things that will totally go over kids heads and those such concepts should be avoided. For example, I was like 4 when Hunchback of Notre Dame came out. It was advertised as a kids movie. It definitely was not. Concepts like religious idealism/conduct in/outside of its intended context, sexuality, good of the many versus rights of the few, and even good versus evil itself go over kids heads. maybe I'm not justified in saying all of those are over kids heads, but the way they're generally presented to kids definitely isn't helping. Anyway, Hunchback of Notre Dame was I think a more teen-aimed movie that happened to have a few things kids would enjoy (and by enjoy, I mean happily get distracted by) thrown in here and there (namely the gargoyles and the goat).
i watch it because it has great animation, awesome story telling, appealing characters, and lastly, because i want to. i genuinely enjoy the show and that is all the reason i should need. that is the reason i watch this show.
I watch it because it's like a language -- a way to talk to people who aren't like me. I don't take it as seriously as a brony, but it's a way to communicate with new people.
I watch the show because, compared to a great deal (or to me seems like a great deal) of shows (cartoon and reality/sitcom) are, in my book at least, either completely and utterly stupid beyond any reasoning, gory with over done deaths and detail, and or focus too much with bed scenes and other such things and doesn't seem to have any goodness in it anywhere. I would list some of my examples of what in some sense repulses me and makes me question to how anyone could like what I call trash but I'd rather not be ganged up upon by those who do find enjoyment (somehow) in what to me is trash. MLP: FIM is to me in this day and age a rare treat. Something that is decent, smart, sensible, clean, and entertaining that the entire family can enjoy. Even my grandma enjoys this show as does my mom and sister and even some of my guy friends enjoy it. It was actually my one female friend that got me into this when I had my doubts back when it began. I was afraid it would be horrid like everything else that has come out in recent past years to current but I was very surprised and glad to see it wasn't one of those trashy shows that are just plan bad or in my view, are just....(shivers) I was glad to see they hadn't ruined what I could remember from the 1 movie I had seen of MLP which was the movie involving the Smooze. ^^ Clean, decent, family friendly, teaches lessons that even some adults could use a good reminder of, and it has just been a very good show and makes me not lose hope in all humanity having lost it's brain to the trash that seems to be taking over TV's and movies. (or well trash in my book as I know everyone has their own likes and dislikes to each their own. I'll like what I like and everyone else have your own likes. ^^;;; )
I watch it because its fun, as a teen its nice to go to a place where the biggest issue is chocolate rain. I always hated how modern media assumes kids are dumb because they become what you expect. Mlp is a show that inspires kids to learn and grow and tells them they are smart. Plus it reinforces things as a whiny angsty teen I seem to forget I learned along time ago.
Most of the people I heard like MLP because they study art, music, animation, or something related... I... actually am a teacher. I saw it because a friend told me and I had nothing better to do. But the reason I kept watching it is because the well written and interesting story. Also, most of the dialogue, jokes, and character designs reminds me of the old school cartoons. And personally as a teacher the theme of respect and friendship is something I try to teach strongly to my students.
and I mean legitimately good ideas. like the concept of Snowdrop, somewhat flawed fan animation but it could open a lot of mythos for luna's character. ...unfortunately that would open the way for guys who have put a lot less effort or thought into their ideas demanding their ideas be formed. I swear, there would be a zombie horde esque legion demanding to retcon the entire third season. though that means the potential story I get form Children of the Night may never come into being.
one of the main reasons i got into mlp was because it was a childrens show. im a huge fan of childrens literature and have always been abit disappointed by its media counterpart. though mlp has opened me up to alot of preexisting childrens media that i just never payed attention to because i didnt have the means to understand and appreciate it on the same level as i do literature. a childlike quality is something i treasure in stories for any age but too often gets thrown aside.
Two major reasons really: 1. I've always had a thing for Voice Over Artists and I love the work they put off in this show. Everyone commits to their characters and illuminates them for all to see. And when I watch a cartoon where the VA's don't BS their characters and gives them true motives, not only do they have my full attention but they also have my belief in the characters. 2. It's just an entertaining show. Looking over the older generations of the show they lack a lot of what today's MLP has to offer. The only intended purpose were to make pretty characters for children to adore, it didn't matter what the story or setup was. But because of how today's version is written and produced, the audience is looking at more than just pretty objects; they're looking at pretty objects with objectives and purposes. They're looking at characters who carry depths of emotions from the most comedic to the most dramatic.Things like this are what makes a good cartoon for any age to watch.
Well. Starting from the beginning of my Brony side kicking in, I really didn't have a choice to do anything. However I started to notice how it was getting widely spread(BRONY FANDOM) and Im like "you know what, this is something everyone likes" Think hard about other things. We live in a world where there's such things as "KID FRIENDLY" However it's not going to be always just about kids. EVERYONE is going to enjoy something even if it's not about teenager things. But from experiences in the episodes comparing to our world, it's very different with society, and sometimes when I read about societies that are different(City of Ember, The Giver) they are interesting that they leaves us to question if that could happen. Since we are not magical ponies, we can't really compare to MLP, but we can just see how their society, ponies or not, relate to ours. That is why Bronies love the show so much. However, many people don't get the "kid friendly" part. Kid friendly is not always just for kids. It's for all ages. Even Frozen is a Disney Movie, and everyone of all ages loves it(depends). Disney is a prime example of kid friendly companies that kids adore, and when they get older, still love anyway.
To be honest, I was not a very social person before MLP FiM came into my life. I was pretty awkward with others, and didn't know how to properly interact with others well. And of course, I have the standard "I was bullied" backstory, and I pretty much distanced myself from others. During freshmen year in a whole new high school in a state I just moved into, I discovered MLP FiM and well let's just say that I learn how to connect with others o not only I made online friends, but IRL too.
there is a million reasons i watch it. the biggest reasons are, one the MUSIC i LOVE the music, another is it's lighthearted and just fum to watch, i also watch it for the fandom (except the extreme diehard fans) and also to challenge social norms
I remember animaniacs, they had some pretty clever jokes in it like "stop stalling and give me the bird!" "we would but the fox censors won't allow it!" they would even make fun of pop culture and make movie parodies! and that show was intended for a younger audience~ but it was also created for the entire family to watch, just like mlp!
I watch the show because it's a good experience. There's good morals, good comedy, the characters are generally lovable and endearing, heck, the show even helped me recover from seeing the OOC grimdark that is Smile HD once. Truth be told, I was once one of this people who was "LOL, nope" to both the show and the fascinating creature called "the brony." However, after sojourning into the show, one season at a time, I learned that, while ignorance may be bliss, it's also a form of deprivation. And while I don't expect everyone to get into the show, those who generally lambaste the show and its audience without any sort of understanding only prove to the world just how depraved they themselves are.
Well Antony, I watch the show because it makes me feel good! I can watch something that makes me feel so happy, and to realize that there are other people out there like ME who watch the show makes me happier! I could never find anyone with the same interest as me, until I started watching MLP. Now, there's thousands or more Bronies or Pegasisters out there who watch the show too! Which makes me want to watch the show MORE! I'm proud to be a Brony, and no one can stop my happiness!!
When someone says MLP FIM is only for kids because it is a kids show, my only response is Animaniacs. Just that show as a whole.
I agree. Both those shows are just amazing, and no one can tell me otherwise.
Agreed. That show is amazing.
Nick Bot "I'm mean"?
***** :)
"If it's a kids show, why do I watch it?"
I am not one for in-depth explanations so I will just say this; I watch the show because I find it a fun show to watch.
I watch the show because it's simply amazing there's so many different changes that not many other shoes do.
That was so beautiful! You remind me so much of my older brother! Thanks for all the laughs!
"Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional" I'll never really grow up~
Me either. :3
(It's also nice and colorful like cartoons and animated shows should be!)
I'm also a beginner animator myself so I can use it for a reference.
I watch it because I enjoy it. It is full of characters that just are....
AMAZINGLY AMAZING!!
I personally watch it for its amazing use of flash animation, musical scores both background and songs and its amazing world that it presents
To quote the late but great Walt Disney:
"You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."
Your videos are always so well done, and you have a really great way of articulating things haha.
My mind has just been blown.
I'm 12 and I fucking love the old work for Walt Disney. Especially the dog and the hound. That was a masterpiece.
1:07 Perfect voice for Papyrus from Undertale. :)
i watch mlp because i love the story, the characters, i think they're all interesting and i get my time invested into them as much as a whovian gets invested into the Doctor.
Fiasco and Once Upon a Time are games designed around telling a story. While the mechanics are different, the idea is to take a certain list of plot elements and mold them into a cohesive (though generally outlandish) narrative. The two games in question were played on Wil Weaton's RUclips show Table Top. Table Top itself is a show where Wil teaches the audience how to play a board/card/table game then proceeds to play it with a group of guests. I hope that helps! ^^;
Wow... good point, Antony. This kind of thing is why you are still in my top five MLP analysts.
They keep the playfulness and cheeriness of a children's show with the fantastic writing of a young adults show to appeal to all ages, and thus MLP is technically a kids show but not at the same time." I'm not sure if that is a good enough response to get feedback from you but it's worth a shot.
i watch mlp because of how kind the fandom is and reall mlp has taught me alot about friendship and the animation is awsome
I don't know if you would call a not-so-mature 10-year-old girl a pegasister. I love the show, but I don't know how I would feel if I were older. I love the show because I don't have much to do, and the humor, girliness, and pretty pastel ponies just appeal to me. The magic of rainbow horses with wings and horns and super strength and the strange things like getting even more powers by somehow jumping in a comic book. . . And the adorableness of fluttershy fan art and the great analysts analyzing silly fantasy problems and solutions. . . And the joy of seeing Pinkie Pie screw physics like a god. . . It's just. . . 20% cooler.
Sweet mother of Mohammad this man's brilliant. I constantly keep coming back to his video, someone explain to me why I'm not subscribed to him?
I watch it because of continuity and generaly grand writing! So few television shows have this, even shows 'for' adults. Continuity just makes me happy.
YOU BROUGHT HOBBITS INTO IT. MY LOVE FOR YOU HAS BEEN DOUBLED.
I could listen to him all day..... >.>;;; *leaves*
all of the lord of the rings references + the Austin powers music made my day. the rest of this video was just bonus.
"Adults are only kids grown up, anyway." ~ Walt Disney
When I was a little kid I would watch anything that looked like fun, especially a cartoon, regardless of the writing. Hell, I still do that sometimes. Therefore I believe that the TV people who think kids will watch anything have a point.
And now I am watching MLP because I want to stay up to date with the amazing community it created, and also because through my headcanon's twisted ways I've fallen in love with the characters themselves.
Loved your Jim Henson shout-out, especially since this video was uploaded the day before what would have been his 77th birthday. R.I.P. Jim
The magic of knowledge because knowing is half the battle.
Because it gives me a world where fanfiction can go almost anywhere.
Even Nostalgia Chick thinks so: Nostalgia Chick - Top Ten Worst Disney Sequels part 2/2
Kids are smarter than a lot of people like to give them credit for.
Rainbow Connection + Sonic Rainboom that connected the Mane 6 to both their destinies and each other = pure genius, intentional or not
Very true about Tolkien. He wrote that great essay, "On Fairy-Stories", that makes this exact point.
I watch it because it's like a language -- a way to talk to people who aren't like me. I don't take it as seriously as a brony, but it's a way to communicate with new people.
i like you analysing people. you guys use your heads and find the things you like and don't like
I watch the show because, compared to a great deal (or to me seems like a great deal) of shows (cartoon and reality/sitcom) are, in my book at least, either completely and utterly stupid beyond any reasoning, gory with over done deaths and detail, and or focus too much with bed scenes and other such things and doesn't seem to have any goodness in it anywhere.
I was afraid it would be horrid like everything else that has come out in recent past years to current but I was very surprised and glad to see it wasn't one of those trashy shows that are just plan bad or in my view, are just....(shivers)
I was glad to see they hadn't ruined what I could remember from the 1 movie I had seen of MLP which was the movie involving the Smooze. ^^;;; )
It keeps me from self destructive habits I have. Plus the fan music is awesome
The season premiers and ends have been quite awesome and Unique in my opinion. Now I wonder what exiting thing Season 4's premiere introduce us too?
Man, everyone's just takin potshots at me now...
and I mean legitimately good ideas. like the concept of Snowdrop, somewhat flawed fan animation but it could open a lot of mythos for luna's character. ...unfortunately that would open the way for guys who have put a lot less effort or thought into their ideas demanding their ideas be formed.
I swear, there would be a zombie horde esque legion demanding to retcon the entire third season. though that means the potential story I get form Children of the Night may never come into being.
well that escalated quickly...
and then became a better love story then twilight.
one of the main reasons i got into mlp was because it was a childrens show. im a huge fan of childrens literature and have always been abit disappointed by its media counterpart. though mlp has opened me up to alot of preexisting childrens media that i just never payed attention to because i didnt have the means to understand and appreciate it on the same level as i do literature. a childlike quality is something i treasure in stories for any age but too often gets thrown aside.
Two major reasons really:
I watch it because it fills my heart with sunshine.
I'm not sure why, but I have a feeling that this will leave many preteen fans feeling lost for words and strangely empty inside. Oh...right....
*****
I'm 12....and somehow am.... (why?!) Well, too much to comprehend! Goodbye!

No! What? No! Of course not! I meant I was simply leaving the video, but since I'm replying, I suppose not. So...uh...
Well.
Starting from the beginning of my Brony side kicking in, I really didn't have a choice to do anything.
However I started to notice how it was getting widely spread(BRONY FANDOM) and Im like "you know what, this is something everyone likes"
Think hard about other things.
We live in a world where there's such things as "KID FRIENDLY"
However it's not going to be always just about kids.
During freshmen year in a whole new high school in a state I just moved into, I discovered MLP FiM and well let's just say that I learn how to connect with others o not only I made online friends, but IRL too.
there is a million reasons i watch it. the biggest reasons are, one the MUSIC i LOVE the music, another is it's lighthearted and just fum to watch, i also watch it for the fandom (except the extreme diehard fans) and also to challenge social norms
the mane reason i like the show is because it fills my heart with friendship
Gawd, your voice is awesome. I think you might be in the running for best brony voice against Mic the Microphone.
I remember animaniacs, they had some pretty clever jokes in it
like "stop stalling and give me the bird!"
"we would but the fox censors won't allow it!"
they would even make fun of pop culture and make movie parodies!
and that show was intended for a younger audience~
but it was also created for the entire family to watch, just like mlp!
