Good video, I thought you explained it well. I stumbled on PM in the summer of 2000, back when I did more editorial work. Like your workflow. I go a little farther and do my renaming, and adding IPTC info, and sometimes captions. Love that I can set and save preset info, so adding locations, copyright, etc... can be selected through drop down menus, and applied to all images at once. Nothing faster than PM, such a great program, and a really good company as well.
David. Thanks for your amazing videos. Hope you and the family are staying safe and healthy. A quick question about this program. First. I am not a pro like you. I am looking for something that will help ingest and organize a TON of JPGs/JPEGs/MP4s. I have TONS of files that are on external hard drives. There are many duplicates, etc. Need to organize them all in one “easy” program. Wasn’t sure if the program you are recommending would be a “perfect” for me. Thank you for your time. If you have a ton to work through, there's either Photo Mechanic or Adobe Bridge, and they're both pretty great! I think Photo Mechanic is faster to be able to go through things, but just my preference! Let me know how it goes!

Love the folder structure you have for your projects (raw, selections, etc.), but how do you deal with day to day images shot on your phone? The images that weren't shot for a specific purpose. Would really appreciate a tip for that. Or maybe even a guide of how you organise your different types of projects and/or non-project files.
Tough! I usually just hangout at the end of the day while watching a show, import a bunch into Lightroom mobile and edit on there for a bit. That's a great question though, and for sure a future video!

@@DavidManningvlog for most of us, that is far from cheap. I thought maybe $40-50. That price is outrageous. I'll just stick to flagging in LR.
I've never had issues with importing 6000 images to Lightroom from the SD card. Is this only an issue for people with mechanical drive? I have a few of 1tb Samsung NVME drive in my desktop. I'm not a baller, I got them from decommissioned servers from my work.

Cheap, but a bit trickier: Davinci Resolve
What do you recommend for people trying to find photography internships during and after college and finding work to be able to do it for a living?
Photo Mechanic is pretty good to cull photos but short of importing the photos again, what else can it do? Capture One can cull pretty close to the same, then It can also process the RAW images. I think I'll stay with Capture One.
Yeah, different workflows for different people! I'm a big fan of the Adobe apps, so Lightroom fits right into that. Capture One is awesome though👍

David Manning well I shoot a lot of portraits but I also enjoy some wildlife when I can get out the city and sports photography for my school as well as (Creative) photography wich if you don't know is like crazy creative things like getting a model to hold a coke and put a mint in it and boom 💥Creative photography 😂
That is exactly why I stopped doing wedding after digital became mainstream. Clients expecting 6000-8000 images is ridiculous even if they are culled to 600-700 final. I had photographed 1700+ wedding before eliminating them from my studio! Too many amateurs shooting digital and handing the a CD full of JPG’s for $100.00 bucks. It’s insane! Glad it’s working for you though.
Yeah, totally different now! Shoot 4K-5K and deliver 700-900. It works though when you get to a place in the market shooting higher end weddings👍

Hey I’m having a really annoying issue that I think is common but I’m having a problem figuring it out. The XMP sidecar files. I don’t know how to get rid of them. I read you can embed the metadata within the raw file itself, but I’m not sure how that modifies the raw file and how that will impact the photos at that point. The xmp files are annoying for sure.

Adobe Bridge has similar features, just not as streamlined for the tasks. It’s not free, but included if you already have the creative cloud subscription

You may wish to have a look at FastRawViewer which is inexpensive, and I think perhaps faster for culling. I think your presentation passes along the information easily to absorb. Thanks.
