I've been riding since 1970, but just recently discovered this channel, and I also dig it!. It's great because I can relate to EVERYTHING he teaches. He rides the same way I ride...experience is a great teacher, I've survived because of constant vigilance and cool head.
Sure...through the decades I've seen a lot of crazy things out on the road..had close calls, kicked a door or two ran over a few vicious dogs and flipped the middle finger good luck sign to a few...but usually a situation does NOT demand extreme actions or raging idiocracy...it's just stupid. MOST of the time people just make simple mistakes that COULD be very bad for us as riders, but we can forgive MOST of them for being dum dum and move on! If we don't act a fool, they will usually feel relieved that you are civil and will proceed with renewed caution. MOST people are YOU and ME! 😉
      That said....ride on...HAPPY TRAILS BROTHER!

I don't know how that camera kept him in frame the whole time but that was pretty amazing, looks like his gear really saved him! As for the axe wielding guy at the end, I'm with you, think I'd launch my bike into him and pin him up against his car. If you give him a chance to start swinging that thing your pretty much defenseless.

The ego makes everything personal, but in 99 of the 100 times there's no intent to hurt or inflict someone else, most of the people are simply unaware that they made a mistake. The way you skip on road rage is imho the way to address these issues and make people aware the road rage doesn't solve (and lead) to anything. This doens' t mean that's always easy to practice what we preach! Everyone makes bad judgements (some more than others) so please people: Don't judge, be more forgiving and always be your best self!

Thanks so much for your videos . My son and daughter were in a wreck 3 days ago. I witnessed the whole thing. (Nightmare) My daughter was in the front with her zx6r and my son was just behind her on his CBR 1000rr and she turned left in front of him and he slammed right into her. Was the nightmare I was hoping to never have to go through. Ambulance, firetrucks showed up, bystanders helped out where they could they were great. Son suffered broken and lacerated nose and a chip of spinaus process of lower back and daughter suffered severe road rash on right arm. They both had helmets on thank God but daughter had a t-shirt is all and just before I asked if she likes her skin. Well she doesnt have much for skin on her arm anymore. I thought to myself how could have this been prevented? What would Dan the fireman say? Daughter should have checked prior to turning and son should have anticipated her turn. Both had helmets and both are ok and on a road to recovery. Just wanted to share. Thanks for your videos.

The limit was 35, when the video begin is more than 60 (In many country this is enough to say goodbye to your license). • @kseyffert

Dan, first rider did find an escape. However, his approach to the intersection was wrong. He was too fast, not allowing him to observe the car earlier and simply letting off the throttle. Right of way is irrelevant to a rider. We need to see what cars are doing and respond to that, not take for granted that they will follow the rules. We are after all the ones who pay for their stupidity and inattention.
Angular incident proves my point above regarding who pays for driver errors.
Riders do not own the road, we have to ride with our safety in mind. We must take the excitement to the track!
The white Toyota with the 0lates starting with CA are minibus taxis 8n Cape Town South Africa. They rarely wallow the law and just do what they want. The only good advice here is to stay as far away fr9m them as you can when on a bike. 8f they are behind you at a set of lights, make sure they have loads 9f space to just go past you because they will try, regardless of the light colour.
Axe man, rider was in the wrong. He was riding too fast for the conditions. That driver who 0ulled out could not see the rider until after he pulled out. That sa8d, not cool gett8ng out with an axe. I would have pulled out against the red light as soon as I saw the axe and then headed for the nearest police station if the driver got back in and followed me.

Another way to look at the situation with the man with an axe could be like this: He was watching traffic, but like many of us do, he did not anticipate the biker overtaking a car quite close to the intersection and exceeding the speed limit. However, he still managed to stop, even though he was partially in the intersection already. The biker honked at him, but to be honest, not entirely for a rightful reason. Then the biker continued to speed up. The video cuts, and we don't know what happened next. Later in the video, we see the man pulling out an axe. I'm not advocating for such behavior, obviously, but to be frank, I can understand that he might be rightfully upset about the speeding of that biker. Please, just drive more cautiously and save your need for speed for the race track.

He is elderly so you need to take that into consideration before jumping the gun with escalating with violence. You would see the signs of him going to swing the axe which would then "justify" running him down in "self defense". Having a gun, taser, or mace would be best to have on your person always, so then in this situation you just get yourself in a position to be able to draw if necessary. But the very first thing to do in that situation would be to immediately get off bike and keep bike in between as a buffer.

13:30 - 14:30 is SA (looks like CPT, CBD and looks like stellenbosch arte)... Dan, you have no idea how crazy those taxis drive in this country. You can expect only illogical craziness from them and you can see it's rubbing off on your normal drivers, making them crazy as well. Drove for about 7 years between Parow to Stellenbosch (back and forth) in peak hours daily with a Honda 400 sf 99. It's a miracle I am still alive lololol. No where near as crazy as india and southern Asia places, but crazy. The problem is half of the road users want to follow the rules, the half do whatever they want. So you are always 2nd guessing every single person on the road (including the pedestrians).

Probably not the best call with axe man, but my first thought would be rev the bike, dump the clutch, and launch it at him while hoping off as it wheelies into him. Then Id take his axe and wait for the police. He initiated an encounter with a deadly weapon and would recieve equal force if it meant I was preserving my life.

  • @rod2508

    1. You don't pick up an axe out of under your car seat in other to have a 'chat' with someone. 2. The biker could be packing a pistol. 3. Best way to avoid this, probably don't speed or do silly stuff. 4. Best way to deal with an axe wielding crazy person, drop a gear and disappear, that way they cant assault you and you don't risk an assault charge too.

    • @57Jimmy

By dropping a gear…that would put this guy into the traffic with the green. I would either dismount and avoi…ah who am I kidding, sudden burst of throttle, wheelie the exhaust manifold into his chest and listen to the sizzle!
      And I am 65+!

I agree with everyone who says the rider was going too fast BUT if you believe the rider to some degree deserved the reaction he got, you're not thinking right. What you're saying is it's perfectly within the axe guy's rights to stop his car, get out and threaten the rider (axe or no axe). He's taking the law into his own hands. He doesn't own the neighborhood or the road or is licensed to enforce the speed limit. The driver should never have gotten out of his car or threatened the rider. The same goes for us riders. Road rage and threatening behavior are against the law. Full stop. If you want to take the law into your own hands then expect consequences from the law or someone else. I've done it and it didn't always end well.

I have no words. AHHH yes I do- thank fuck I don't live in the States! Axeman is definitely unhinged & I have no doubt if he keeps an axe at his side, more goodies are in his boot! But the responses here are equally if not more frightening. You guys seriously need to take a good hard look at how readily you will pick up a deadly weapon. It is beyond INSANE. Riding a motorbike & carrying an explosive deadly weapon- definitely never travelling to the U.S of A!
