Thanks Angela …. I find it so helpful you discussing your prices … hope you feel better soon 💖💖💖
Thank you!
Loved you video & hun, Never apologize for how you sound, there's no need for it. If people have an issue with how your voice is coming across, that's there issue.
Yes I’d like to see part 2. Thank you for bringing up this topic because it’s interesting to see the thought process behind each alteration consideration.
It will be published this Wednesday.
You work faster in your mind….😂 That is so true
I totally agree
Thank you Angela , I does the same , I feel embarrassed to charge so I tell the offer me a reasonable amount and give them a refund if I find it's too much , I thank you very much for guidance in pricing ❤
You are so welcome
I’m just starting out doing alterations. Many in my congregation have been going to someone on the West Side of town but want to move away from her because now she has become very rude and they don’t want to deal with her attitude. I charge $10 minimum to touch the item. $15 for hemming pants and jeans then $20 to taper any pants. I wonder how this compares to others
I did a search for prices in my area. That’s unfortunate that she’s treating her customers that way. Kudos to you for stepping up and filling in for them.
@@AngelaWoolsey very detailed explanation of making men’s suits (jacket and pants). ruclips.net/video/1FBik6gMtN4/видео.html
Thank you! I’ll check it out!
That is a great video. He makes it easy to understand. I like how all the marks are in relation to another mark. Looks like I have a lot of work and practice ahead of me.
Thank you for sharing your approach. I think you are selling yourself short. Very much so. Your time is your absolutely most precious resource. You should not have to work yourself at sweatshop pace to make a decent hourly rate. If you work at sweatshop efficiency by challenging yourself. you should make 60-80 an hour. You do high quality work.
It is honorable that you wish to give people a good deal. That provides balance, but it should not come at your expense if you treat your alterations as a business, as opposed to a charity.
Finally, due to inflation, you should be charging 20-25% more than pre-pandemic. My grocery items have gone up 20-50%, so use the main items in your grocery basket as an indicator for inflation, not the officially reported numbers.
If you love what you are doing, I think you'd love it even more when you are paid better. Work has value. Quality work, which is harder and harder to find, has much more value.
Just my two (inflation hit) cents
John van de Pol Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, it would be much more enjoyable if I would charge more and yes, I recognize that it is self-sacrificing on my part, unfortunately.
In part 2 I will talk about what I suspect is behind all of this. Including how I screwed myself over, not once, but TWICE; which I’ll never do again.
I do alterations for a local laundromat, so I charge them, and they charge the customers a small upcharge. I try to base it on my time, effort, plus cost. Sometimes things add up, and I feel bad charging so much. 😟
Try not to feel bad. We all need to make a living. Besides, if someone can’t afford to pay for alterations, that’s why I’m here. They can learn to do it themselves, save some money and learn valuable skills ☺️
Do you even make minimum wage? Where I live I could work at McDonald’s and get paid $17 an hour. I expect all my experience should be paid more.
Currently no. I don’t have the consistent workload. If I had enough work to keep me busy for 8 hours per day, I’d be making a lot more than minimum wage.
If you have to take the hem out to put a new one in, do you charge the same?
I do. I’m pretty sure my way of charging may not make sense to some people. I just need everything to be as simple as possible.
@@AngelaWoolsey where I worked it was the same.
Oh good! I guess I’m not so different lol. If you’re shortening pant hems and they ask you to decrease the width of the ankle up to about 3”, do you charge additional for that?
